This Week's Duck Commander 500
Yahoo: Top 30 Drivers
Yahoo / Fantasy Live / Fox: Quick Picks: Coming Soon
After a trip to the slowest track on the schedule last Sunday, the Sprint Cup Series heads to one of the fastest tracks this weekend. Texas Motor Speedway will host Saturday night's Duck Commander 500, and drivers should routinely top 200 mph entering the corners of the 1.5-mile oval.
Saturday's race should also bring about a return to normalcy so to speak after many of the top drivers suffered below average finishes in last weekend's short track event. Prior to the Martinsville race, I recommended utilizing some sleeper picks in the Yahoo game because short track racing can be a bit more unpredictable.
The opposite should be true this weekend. Historically, the top drivers from the top teams end up at the front of the field more often than not on at intermediate ovals. With that in mind, you will need to pick and choose any sleeper drivers wisely, and don't be afraid to lean on the household names.
1. JIMMIE JOHNSON, #48 LOWE'S/KOBALT TOOLS, HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS [YAHOO CLASS A]
Johnson has won three straight races at Texas and four of the last six. His six wins here overall are the most in the series, and he also leads all driver with an 8.4 average finish at the track. In 25 starts at Texas, Johnson has finished either first or second 11 times.
2. KEVIN HARVICK, #4 BUSCH BEER/JIMMY JOHNS, STEWART-HAAS RACING [YAHOO CLASS A]
He has come up just short of a win at Texas in his last three starts, but Harvick is still riding a streak of three straight finishes of third or better at the track. He has also started in the top five in all three of those races, so he is a great A-List driver to have on your bench for qualifying points, even if you decide to start someone else on race day.
3. BRAD KESELOWSKI, #2 MILLER LITE, TEAM PENSKE [YAHOO CLASS A]
Texas has been one of his strongest tracks, and he enters Saturday night's race with seven straight top 15s, including three straight top five finishes. He has led more than 20 laps in four straight races here, and he led 312 of the 334 laps last fall on his way to a second-place finish.
4. JOEY LOGANO, #22 SHELL-PENNZOIL, TEAM PENSKE[YAHOO CLASS A]
Since joining Team Penske in 2013, Logano has logged four top five finishes in six starts at Texas. Perhaps more importantly, he has finished in the top five in all three April races at the track during the stretch, winning the 2014 event.
5. DALE EARNHARDT, JR., #88 NATIONAL GUARD/DIET MOUNTAIN DEW, HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS [YAHOO CLASS A]
Over the last 10 races at Texas, Junior has been one of the most reliable drivers, notching eight top 10 finishes. He has been even better recently, delivering four finishes of sixth or better in his last five races here, including three straight.
