Tyler Shatley JAC OGJaguars' Tyler Shatley: Staying in Jacksonville
19h agoThe Jaguars re-signed Shatley on Friday.
Not all of the details of the deal are known at this point, but Shatley is now poised to spend at least next season in Jacksonville - his 11th straight year with the team. The Jaguars will likely seek to add talent at offensive line during the upcoming draft, but Shatley figures to at least provide veteran depth to the interior of the unit in 2024.

22h agoGM Chris Ballard noted Friday that Ogletree is off the NFL's Commissioner Exempt List, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Per the report, Ogletree -- whose charges stemming from his arrest in December were dismissed last month -- is back with the Colts during offseason workouts. Prior to being placed on the Commissioner Exempt List on Dec. 30, Ogletree caught nine of his 21 targets for 147 yards and two TDs in 12 regular-season games with Indianapolis.

J.K. Dobbins LAC RBChargers' J.K. Dobbins: Should be ready for training camp
22h agoDobbins (Achilles), who agreed to terms with the Chargers on Thursday, "should be" ready for training camp according to GM Joe Hortiz, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network relayed last month that Dobbins -- who suffered a torn Achilles in Baltimore's regular-season opener in 2023 -- has been cleared for football activities, with previous reports having noted that the running back had resumed running this offseason. Based on the assessment of Hortiz on Thursday, Dobbins is still working his way back from his injury; however, if the 2020 second-rounder is able to return to form, he and Gus Edwards (who also came over from the Ravens in free agency) have a chance to provide an effective 1-2 punch in the Chargers' backfield in 2024 under the guidance of offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who both players worked with in Baltimore.

Kerby Joseph DET DBLions' Kerby Joseph: Should be 100 percent for camp
1d agoJoseph (hip) -- who won't take part in practices this spring -- expects to be fully healthy by the start of training camp, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Joseph underwent an offseason procedure to address a hip injury that originally occurred in Week 2 of the 2023 campaign. Though he returned to play after missing two contests en route to logging 82 tackles and four picks in 15 regular-season outings overall, the issue evidently lingered to the point that it required attention following the postseason. Once he's back to 100 percent, Joseph will reprise his starting free safety role with the Lions.

D.J. Chark CAR WRDJ Chark: Visits with Chargers
1d agoChark visited the Chargers on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Few teams are more in need of wide receivers, with the Chargers having released Mike Williams and traded Keenan Allen earlier this offseason. Chark has never come close to matching his 1,008-yard, eight-TD performance in 2019 for Jacksonville, but he did top 500 yards both of the past two seasons in Detroit and Carolina, starting 21 of 26 games along the way. Chark will turn 28 in September and doesn't figure to command a large contract.

Courtland Sutton DEN WRBroncos' Courtland Sutton: No concern about OTA absence
1d agoBroncos GM George Paton suggested Thursday that he isn't worried about Sutton's absence from voluntary offseason workouts, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. "It's 100 percent voluntary," Paton said. "It's the first week of the offseason program. I've talked to Courtland. He's in a good place, and I'll just leave it at that."
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Tuesday that Sutton's absence from voluntary OTAs is related to wanting a new contract. The wideout has two years and approximately $27.6 million remaining on his current deal, with only $2 million of that guaranteed. It's not the type of situation with especially high risk for a holdout, and Sutton looks to be especially important for Denver's offense after the team traded WR Jerry Jeudy to Cleveland in the offseason. It's not yet clear who will start across from Sutton at wide receiver, nor is it clear who will get the nod under center Week 1. The Broncos still have a lot to work out this spring and summer, with the upcoming NFL Draft presumably being a piece of that puzzle.

Clay Holmes NYY RPYankees' Clay Holmes: Nabs league-leading eighth save
3m agoHolmes gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Rays.
The veteran right-hander continued his fast start to the campaign. Holmes does have one blown save on his ledger due to some unearned runs, but through 10 innings he sports a 0.00 ERA to go along with his MLB-leading saves total. His 6:1 K:BB and 1.20 WHIP suggest that pristine ERA won't last much longer, however. With the 14-6 Yankees tied for the best record in the majors, save chances should remain plentiful for the team's undisputed closer.

6m agoStanton isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.
Stanton turned in an 0-for-4 performance at the plate during Friday's victory over the Rays, and he'll get a breather during Saturday's contest. Aaron Judge will take over as New York's designated hitter, allowing Trent Grisham to start in center field and bat sixth.

Clarke Schmidt NYY SPYankees' Clarke Schmidt: Fans seven in no-decision
8m agoSchmidt came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rays, allowing one run on seven hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter.
The right-hander blanked Tampa Bay for five frames before Richie Palacios tagged him for a solo shot in the sixth, but Schmidt still exited the game in line for a loss until the Yankees rallied for five runs in the seventh. He generated a massive 37 called or swinging strikes among his 102 pitches, but Schmidt is still looking to iron out some efficiency issues as he hasn't completed six innings in any of his four starts so far in 2024. he'll take a 3.15 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 20 innings into his next outing, which lines up to be a juicy home matchup against the A's next week.

9m agoThe Padres plan to recall Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays in San Diego.
Acquired from the Yankees over the offseason, Vasquez failed to make the Padres' Opening Day roster but will get a chance to make his San Diego debut this weekend. He'll be joining the rotation as a replacement for Yu Darvish (neck), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Through three starts at El Paso in 2024, Vasquez has pitched to a 7.94 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB in 11.1 innings.

11m agoDalbec started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk, double and run scored in Friday's 8-1 win over Pittsburgh.
Dalbec started in place of Rafael Devers (knee), who missed a second consecutive game, and collected his first hit of the season. Dalbec had gone 19 at-bats with a hit before his second-inning double. The Red Sox are taking it day by day with Devers, and manager Alex Cora told Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe that "as of now" he's not a candidate for the injured list. Dalbec and Pablo Reyes have started at third while Devers is sidelined.

Yuta Watanabe MEM SFYuta Watanabe: Leaving NBA
8m agoWatanabe (personal) is not expected to pick up his $2.6 million player option this offseason, but rather head to the Japan professional basketball league, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Watanabe announced the news during an Instagram Live session. Assuming he does not ultimately return to the NBA, the six-year veteran will bookend his career with stints in Memphis. Although, he only played five games for the team this year, as most of his season was spent in Phoenix. His most productive tenure came with the Nets during the 2022-23 season, where the forward averaged 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 triples across 16.0 minutes per game.

17m agoRobinson (back) recorded eight points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist across 12 minutes Friday in the Heat's 112-91 win over the Bulls in the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament.
Robinson missed the final four games of the regular season with left facet syndrome, but he was cleared to play in advance of the Heat's first game of the Play-In Tournament on Wednesday. He ultimately went unused in Wednesday's 105-104 loss to the 76ers, but a rotation spot opened up for Robinson on Friday with Jimmy Butler (knee) sidelined with an MCL sprain. Though Butler doesn't appear on track to return during the Heat's first-round playoff series with the Celtics, Robinson could be squeezed out of the rotation if the Heat get Terry Rozier (neck) back for Sunday's Game 1 in Boston.

Murray went to the locker room at the end of the first half with left hip soreness, but he's been cleared to return. He'll be asked to play a big role down the stretch with the Kings facing a nine-point deficit to begin the third quarter.

12h agoMurray went to the locker room after suffering a left hip injury during the second quarter of Friday's Play-In Game against the Pelicans, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
Murray appeared to slip on a wet spot on the court, and he was reportedly favoring his hip on the way to the locker room, per Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento. Trey Lyles and Colby Jones would likely be asked to step up if Murray can't return.

12h agoVucevic notched 16 points (7-17 FG, 2-5 3Pt), 14 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals over 35 minutes during Friday's 112-91 Play-In Game loss to the Heat.
Vucevic turned in a valiant effort in Friday's elimination game, but the Heat cruised to a big victory with the help of Tyler Herro and Jamie Jaquez. Vucevic was held in check offensively along with the rest of the Chicago squad, as the Bulls were held to 91 points on 38.0 percent shooting from the field. The 33-year-old closed the season with four consecutive double-doubles.

12h agoGreen closed Friday's 112-91 Play-In Game loss to the Heat with 12 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, three assists and two steals over 17 minutes.
Green led Chicago's bench with 12 points, but his effort wasn't enough to help his team advance to the opening round of the postseason. He finished the 2023-24 campaign on a high note by putting up 10 or more points in seven of eight appearances over his final month of action.

4m agoPer Andrew Gross of Newsday, coach Patrick Roy said Pageau (lower body) will be a game-time decision Saturday.
Pageau was injured Wednesday versus the Penguins in the final game of the regular season. He completed the year with 11 goals, 22 assists, 101 PIM and 196 hits in 82 outings. Should Pageau be unavailable Saturday, expect to see Simon Holmstrom enter the lineup on the fourth unit.

Nick Jensen WAS DCapitals' Nick Jensen: Skating before practice Saturday
11m agoJensen (upper body) skated in a non-contact jersey before practice Saturday, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.
Jensen was stretchered off the ice a week ago against Tampa Bay and missed the last two games of the regular season. Jensen will have to get better in a hurry if he hopes to play in Game 1 versus the Rangers on Sunday. Jensen had 14 points, 62 hits and 123 blocked shots in 78 games during the regular season. Should Jensen be unable to play, expect to see Vincent Iorio remain in the lineup.

22m agoSandin (upper body) is at morning practice Saturday, in a non-contact jersey, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
The Capitals play Game 1 versus the Rangers on Sunday and it's starting to look like Sandin won't be ready to return. Sandin missed the last five games of the regular season with the injury, finishing the season with three goals and 20 assists in 68 appearances. Should Sandin be unavailable Sunday, look for Dylan McIlrath to dress as the Capitals' sixth defenseman.

Olli Maatta DET DRed Wings' Olli Maatta: Caps off productive campaign
2h agoMaatta posted four goals, 14 assists, 96 blocked shots and a team-leading plus-14 rating through 72 games this season.
Maatta didn't post the type of stat that would enthrall the masses in fantasy hockey but was efficient for a retooled Red Wings blue line that desperately needed more cohesion and consistency. The 2024-25 campaign will be a contract year for Maatta before potentially being able to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

Jake Walman DET DRed Wings' Jake Walman: Robust totals in abbreviated season
2h agoWalman finished the season with a career-high 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) to complement 42 hits and 151 blocked shots through 63 games.
Walman was bogged down by an illness in January, and a lower-body issue limited him to two games in the season's final month. But when healthy, Walman surfaced with a series of special moments. The skilled defenseman surged to a three-point performance while facing the Predators in the penultimate contest of 2023, and his penalty-shot goal in overtime against the Canucks on Feb. 11 roused the home crowd. Walman's industrious style of play makes him a good fit in Detroit, though he may be a bit too injury-prone to stay on fantasy rosters for a sustained period.

Christian Fischer DET RWRed Wings' Christian Fischer: Discouraging finish in Motown
3h agoFischer completed his debut campaign with the Red Wings, adding five goals, 14 assists and 138 hits through 79 games. He was neutral in the plus-minus category.
Despite a bottom-six role, Fischer has proven that he's capable of providing a decent amount of offense, but his production screeched to a halt at a time when the Red Wings were desperate in their attempts to clinch a playoff berth. Fischer was held without a point for the final 12 games, failing to provide ancillary scoring for the Original Six club that failed to qualify for the postseason. It could end up being a "one-and-done" stint for Fischer in the Motor City, as the physical winger is a pending unrestricted free agent.
