Cody Davis: Hangs up cleats
6h agoDavis announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, Chris Mason of Masslive.com reports.
Davis played 11 NFL seasons, spending five years with the Rams, two with the Jaguars and the final four of his career with the Patriots. The 34-year-old primarily played on special teams and hadn't played a defensive snap since 2020. He'll finish his career with 118 combined tackles, two interceptions and three fumbles recovered.

Olamide Zaccheaus PHI WR
Commanders' Olamide Zaccheaus: Moving on to Washington
6h agoZaccheaus has agreed to a deal with the Commanders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
In his only campaign with the Eagles, Zaccheaus (who caught 40 passes with the Falcons in 2022) finished the 2023 regular season with 10 catches for 164 yards and two TDs in 17 games. With the Commanders, the 26-year-old will add depth to a wideout corps that is currently led by Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. In that context, Zaccheaus has some bounce-back potential if he can carve out steady snaps in 2024 behind the team's top duo.

DeShawn Williams BUF DE
Bills' DeShawn Williams: Lands in Buffalo
9h agoThe Bills signed Williams to a one-year contract Thursday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Williams suited up for 16 regular-season games with the Panthers last season, a span in which he racked up 33 tackles (13 solo) and one sack. He stands to bolster Buffalo's defensive line as a depth piece for the 2024 season.

Jayden Daniels 2005 QB
Jayden Daniels: Throws at LSU Pro Day
9h agoDaniels, who opted to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, did so at LSU's Pro Day on Wednesday, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Per the report, Daniels, who measured in at 6-foot-3⅝, 210 pounds, was slated to spend time afterward with the Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. As next month's draft approaches, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is viewed as one of the top options at the QB position along with USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. While Williams is expected to be selected first overall, where Daniels lands remains to be seen, though what is clear is that the top four signal-callers figure to come off the board quickly, in any case.

Josiah Deguara JAC TE
Jaguars' Josiah Deguara: Inking with Jacksonville
12h agoThe Jaguars are slated to sign Deguara to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Deguara spent the last four seasons handling a depth role in Green Bay, where he was drafted in the third round back in 2020. His versatility both as a blocker and on special teams will boost his chances of earning playing time behind Evan Engram, but Deguara peaked with a 25-245-2 receiving line in 2021 and doesn't appear to have much fantasy potential.

J.K. Dobbins BAL RB
J.K. Dobbins: Lines up AFC West visit
13h agoDobbins (Achilles) is visiting the Chargers on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dobbins, who was recently medically cleared for football activities, is coming off a left Achilles tear after previously missing all of 2021 and about half of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL and proceeding issues. That medical history undercuts otherwise impressive career numbers for Dobbins, who has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020 as a second-round pick by the Ravens, but only suited up for 24 games in that span. Reuniting with offensive coordinator Greg Roman could make the most sense as a landing spot for Dobbins, but it's possible he doesn't garner more interest than a potential prove-it deal. The Chargers signed Gus Edwards,a former Baltimore backfield mate of Dobbins, early in free agency.

Jake Fraley CIN RF
Reds' Jake Fraley: Scores twice in opener
14m agoFraley started in right field and went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over Washington on Opening Day.
As usual, Fraley got the start with a right-hander throwing for the Nationals. The left-handed hitting outfielder had just 41 plate appearances against lefties in 2023. Fraley can be useful in a less-than full-time role, as evidenced last year, when stole 21 bases in 111 games.

Michael Lorenzen TEX SP
Rangers' Michael Lorenzen: On IL with neck strain
15m agoThe Rangers placed Lorenzen on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right neck strain.
General manager Chris Young noted Wednesday that Lorenzen was set to open the season on the IL, but it wasn't until the Rangers made the transaction official Thursday that the team shed light on his injury. The neck strain isn't considered a concern; instead, Lorenzen likely just needs additional time to build up to a starter's workload after he didn't sign a one-year deal with the Rangers until last week. He'll likely make one or two rehab starts at Triple-A Round Rock before he returns from the IL and enters Texas' rotation.
-
Jonathan Hernandez TEX RP
Rangers' Jonathan Hernandez: Shelved with lat strain
19m agoThe Rangers placed Hernandez (lat) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
The right lat strain that Hernandez suffered late in the 2023 regular season delayed his start to spring training, as he logged just 3.1 innings in Cactus League play before camp came to an end. According to MLB.com, general manager Chris Young said that the Rangers want to see Hernandez pitch multiple innings in a rehab game and work on back-to-back days before bringing him back from the IL. He'll be eligible for activation beginning April 9.
-
Nate Lowe TEX 1B
Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Heads to IL
21m agoThe Rangers placed Lowe (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Lowe will be eligible to come off the IL ahead of the Rangers' April 5 game against the Astros, but the team is expecting him to be ready to return from his right oblique strain around mid-to-late April, per MLB.com. Jared Walsh and Ezequiel Duran are expected to form a platoon at first base to begin the season until Lowe is ready to return.
-
Jonathan India CIN 2B
Reds' Jonathan India: Starts at second base
22m agoIndia started at second base and batted leadoff in Thursday's 8-2 win over Washington on Opening Day. He went 1-for-4 with a walk.
The Reds' planned second baseman, Matt McLain, injured his shoulder during spring training and underwent surgery Tuesday. He was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday, which means India, who was training for a utility role, is expected to have a steady home for the first two months of the season.
-
Justin Steele CHC SP
Cubs' Justin Steele: Removed due to tightness
24m agoSteele was removed from Thursday's game against the Rangers due to tightness in his left hamstring, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Steele was attempting to field a bunt in the fifth inning when he fell to the ground before being removed. It sounds as if he avoided serious injury, though it remains unclear if he'll be ready to take the mound for his next turn through the rotation.

Zeke Nnaji DEN PF
Nuggets' Zeke Nnaji: Ruled out Friday
3h agoNnaji (thigh) is out for Friday's game against the Timberwolves.
Nnaji has been dealing with tendinitis on his right thigh for quite some time, and Friday will mark his sixth consecutive absence. His next chance to play will come against the Cavaliers on Sunday.
-
Sasha Vezenkov SAC PF
Kings' Sasha Vezenkov: Listed as questionable
3h agoVezenkov (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game against the Mavericks.
Vezenkov has been sidelined since early February, but he's trending in the right direction and is considered day-to-day. If he gets the green light, Vezenkov could work his way back into the rotation. On the season, the forward is averaging 12.6 minutes per game.
-
Rudy Gobert MIN C
Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Iffy for Friday
3h agoGobert is questionable for Friday's game versus Denver with a left rib sprain.
Gobert has been able to play through his rib sprain in three straight games, playing at least 34 minutes in all three. He's still considered day-to-day, however, so fantasy managers will want to monitor this situation closely.
-
Sam Hauser BOS SF
Celtics' Sam Hauser: Back to bench role Thursday
3h agoHauser is not in the starting lineup to face the Hawks on Thursday, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
The Celtics will feature their regular starting unit of Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis, so it's not surprising to see Hauser heading back to his regular bench role. Hauser is averaging 11.9 points per game while shooting 47.8 percent from three-point range since the beginning of March.
-
Anthony Edwards MIN SG
Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards: Questionable for Friday
3h agoEdwards (back) is questionable for Friday's game in Denver.
The Timberwolves have listed Edwards as questionable throughout March with various injuries, but he's yet to miss a game. Managers can expect to get official confirmation on the Ant-Man's status closer to Friday's tip.
-
Jaylen Clark MIN SG
Timberwolves' Jaylen Clark: Heads to G League for rehab
3h agoMinnesota transferred Clark (Achilles) to the G League's Iowa Wolves on Thursday.
Clark was a second-round pick by the Timberwolves but has yet to play this season while recovering from an Achilles surgery he underwent during his final collegiate season at UCLA in 2022-23. It's unclear if he'll be cleared to play before the end of his rookie campaign, but it's encouraging to see the youngster ramping up in the G League.
-
Timothy Liljegren TOR D
Maple Leafs' Timothy Liljegren: Will miss time
16m agoLiljegren is expected to miss some time with the upper-body injury that kept him out of Thursday's game versus the Capitals, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.
A specific timeline for Liljegren's return was not given by head coach Sheldon Keefe. The 24-year-old Liljegren was replaced by Mark Giordano in the lineup Thursday, though Morgan Rielly (upper body) is considered day-to-day and could be back before Liljegren is cleared to play.
-
Ryan Graves PIT D
Penguins' Ryan Graves: Suffers upper-body injury
30m agoGraves is being evaluated for an upper-body injury after leaving Thursday's game versus the Blue Jackets following the first period.
Graves logged just 5:27 of ice time in this contest. If he is unable to play Saturday in a rematch in Columbus, John Ludvig would likely enter the lineup.
-
Alexandre Carrier NSH D
Predators' Alexandre Carrier: Remains out Thursday
36m agoCarrier (upper body) isn't available for Thursday's contest against Arizona, per Zach Gilchriest of the Predators' official site.
Carrier is set to miss his second straight game because of the injury. He has four goals, 19 points, 40 PIM, 55 hits and 127 blocks in 66 outings in 2023-24. Spencer Stastney will return from an upper-body injury Thursday, but once Carrier is healthy too, Stastney might not have a spot in the lineup.
-
Spencer Stastney NSH D
Predators' Spencer Stastney: Ready to return
37m agoStastney (upper body) will play Thursday versus the Coyotes, Zach Gilchriest of the Predators' official site reports.
Stastney will draw in after missing five games with the injury. The 24-year-old defenseman will take the place of Marc Del Gaizo, who was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee prior to the game. Stastney has one goal, six shots on net, 16 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating through 10 NHL appearances this season.
-
Max Jones ANA LW
Ducks' Max Jones: Unavailable Thursday
39m agoJones (upper body) will not play Thursday versus Seattle.
It will be Jones' second straight game out of the lineup due to the injury. He has five goals, 15 points, 33 PIM and 125 hits in 52 appearances this season. Jones will likely serve in a middle-six capacity once he's healthy.
-
Jani Hakanpaa DAL D
