Lions' Nate Sudfeld: Remains in Detroit
    12h ago

Sudfeld (knee) re-signed with the Lions on Wednesday.

Sudfeld missed all of last year after suffering a torn ACL in a preseason game against the Panthers. The 30-year-old operated as the team's backup quarterback to Jared Goff in 2022, and was competing with Teddy Bridgewater for that role last season before his injury. If he can make the Lions roster in 2024, he'll likely be the No. 3 option with Hendon Hooker behind Goff.

Panthers' Jadeveon Clowney: Fortifies Carolina's pass rush
    14h ago

Clowney has agreed to terms with the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Per Rapoport, Clowney's deal with Carolina is for two years and $20 million, with a maximum value of $24 million. During his lone campaign with the Ravens, Clowney finished the 2023 regular season with 43 tackles and 9.5 sacks over the course 17 games. By adding the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft to the defensive mix, the Panthers will bolster a pass rushing unit that's looking to make up for the recent trade of Brian Burns to the Giants.

The Texans re-signed Hewitt to a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Hewitt led the NFL in special-teams tackles last season, while suiting up for 16 regular-season games. He played a career-high 358 snaps on special teams but just four defensive snaps, and as such holds little to no fantasy value in IDP formats.

Broncos' Josh Reynolds: Joining Denver's WR corps
    16h ago

Reynolds agreed Wednesday with the Broncos on a two-year contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Per Garafolo, Reynolds' deal with Denver is worth a maximum of $14 million. The wideout, who turned 29 years old last month, is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he caught 40 of his 64 targets for 608 yards and five touchdowns in 17 regular-season contests for Detroit. With the Broncos, Reynolds will help fill the void created by the recent trade of Jerry Jeudy to the Browns. Reynolds will have a chance to compete with Tim Patrick (Achilles) and Marvin Mims for targets behind No. 1 wideout Courtland Sutton.

Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Could yield to Berti at third base
    3h ago

Yankees manager Aaron Boone isn't yet certain whether Cabrera or newly acquired Jon Berti will start at third base on Opening Day, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

With DJ LeMahieu (foot) beginning the season on the IL and Oswaldo Peraza set to miss several weeks due to a shoulder injury, Cabrera didn't appear to have much competition for the role of the Yankees' primary third baseman to begin the campaign. That changed Wednesday, however, when New York acquired Jon Berti in a three-team trade involving the Marlins and Rays. Though there's still a chance Cabrera could start on Opening Day, it's almost certain that he'll yield substantial time at the hot corner to the more-experienced Berti, who racked up a career-high 424 plate appearances last season and hit .294 while compiling 53 runs and 16 stolen bases. By contrast, Cabrera struggled over 330 plate appearances, slashing just .211/.275/.299 with five homers, 29 RBI, 35 runs and eight thefts.

Tigers' Carson Kelly: Could see time at DH
    9h ago

Kelly could see some time at DH this year on days that Jake Rogers starts behind the plate, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Kelly was already expected to see a sizable role as the backup catcher, and time at DH would boost his prospects further. Rogers should still play more frequently, though Kelly will be involved it seems, particularly against left-handed pitchers, as he posted an .801 OPS against southpaws last season. His value would increase if Rogers dealt with an injury at any point.

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Could see time at DH
    9h ago

Rogers could see some time at DH this year on days that Carson Kelly starts behind the plate, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

With Detroit only carrying two catchers on the roster, conventional wisdom would suggest that one of Rogers or Kelly would always be on the bench to provide depth if needed. However, manager A.J. Hinch suggested that both backstops could play at the same time, particularly against left-handed pitchers. This would be a boon for Rogers, who is expected to cede a decent amount of playing time to Kelly behind the dish.

Pirates' Luis Ortiz: Opening in bullpen

Ortiz will begin the season as a long reliever in the bullpen, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old made a solid case for a rotation spot during spring training with a 3.46 ERA, and 15:7 K:BB across 13 innings, but Bailey Falter and Jared Jones will begin the campaign as Pittsburgh's Nos. 4 and 5 starters. Ortiz should remain stretched out and should see some action as a bulk reliever, especially as a right-handed complement to lefties like Jones, Martin Perez and Marco Gonzales.

Nuggets' Michael Porter: Plays through illness for 18 points

Porter recorded 18 points (7-16 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds and two steals over 33 minutes during Wednesday's 104-97 loss to Phoenix.

Porter drew the start despite battling an unspecified illness but was fairly productive in the loss. Porter has plodded along with pedestrian scoring numbers over the past three games due to lower-than-expected shot volume, but his 16 attempts Wednesday is a move in the right direction. Porter can soar well above 20 points with enough opportunity, but he sometimes lacks the necessary aggression to make those opportunities happen on his own.

Nuggets' Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: Solid total in loss

Caldwell-Pope racked up 13 points (5-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt), six rebounds, six assists, one block and two steals over 36 minutes during Wednesday's 104-97 loss to the Suns.

Denver's backcourt continues to deal with Jamal Murray's (ankle) absence, and although Caldwell-Pope can be a volatile fantasy prospect, he's delivered solid assist and rebound totals alongside one of his best scoring results over the past two weeks. Short of putting Murray and Reggie Jackson o the floor at the same time, the Nuggets lack playoff experience in the backcourt, so they'll beed to see more production from Caldwell-Pope down the stretch.

Nuggets' Nikola Jokic: Double-doubles with 10 assists

Jokic totaled 22 points (9-16 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds, 10 assists, one block and two steals across 42 minutes during Wednesday's 104-97 loss to the Suns.

Jokic got the extra assist to hit another double-double, a milestone he missed twice over the past 10 games. The MVP candidate is dealing with multiple injuries at the moment, but the team cant shut him down yet due to an ongoing battle for first seed in the Western Conference. If the Nuggets create sone space between Minnesota and Oklahoma City in the coming week, we may see Jokic's usage draw down to get rest for the playoffs.

Suns' Bradley Beal: Poor result in victory

Beal registered 10 points (3-11 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 104-97 victory over the Nuggets.

Beal has played through a finger injury but his resent results suggest some difficulty with his shot. The veteran has converted only 31.8 percent of his 22 shot attempts over the past two games, and the Suns need much more from Beal if they hope to stay out of the play-in bracket. With only 19 total points over the past two games, Beal will try to turn things around against the Thunder this Friday.

Jusuf Nurkic (ankle) was out with an ankle injury, forcing Eubanks into the first unit. The team is thin at the position but got some interior support from Thaddeus Young after Eubanks had a frigid start. Nurkic should be back in time for Friday's game against the Thunder, which will move Eubanks back to the bench.

Durant ended with 30 points (12-20 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 13 rebounds, three assists and five blocks over 38 minutes during Wednesday's 104-97 win over Denver.

The Suns were able to flip the script after a bad loss to the Spurs. Despite the embarrassing result Monday evening, Durant has had a trio of excellent lines after some modest regression at certain points over the month of March. Every win counts for the Suns as they strive to avoid a play-in game, so expect elite numbers for Durant as the team navigates the league['s most difficult remaining schedule.

The 25-year-old Katchouk now has six goals and 11 points across 47 games between Ottawa and Chicago this season. While he provides a physical presence, Katchouk isn't likely to offer consistent production offensively in a fourth-line role.

After allowing a goal to Brady Tkachuk late in the frame, Levi would proceed to blank the Senators over the final two periods. Despite the 22-year-old netminder's performance, the Sabres couldn't overcome the early 5-0 deficit, saddling Luukkonen with the loss. While Levi's seen limited action, he's been sharp recently, sporting a .943 save percentage over his last three appearances.
