Mario Edwards SEA DE
Mario Edwards: Visits Houston
7m agoEdwards (knee) had a visit with the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Edwards missed the final game of the 2023 season due to a knee injury. His visit in Houston indicates he has put that injury behind him. The journeyman recorded 21 tackles (15 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble across 15 games for Seattle last season. He is now looking for a new opportunity.

Chase Young SF DE
Saints' Chase Young: Officially joins New Orleans
2h agoThe Saints and Young agreed to a contract Monday.
According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, Young's new deal will be for one year. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, Young earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors to kick off his career, but his next two seasons were derailed by injuries, and he split 2023 between the Commanders and 49ers. With 16.5 sacks in 43 games in his first four campaigns, he'll be a part of a New Orleans pass rush that features Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson.
-
Joshua Dobbs MIN QB
49ers' Joshua Dobbs: Finds work in San Francisco
2h agoThe 49ers and Dobbs agreed to a contract Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
In 13 games (12 starts) between the Cardinals and Vikings this past season, Dobbs completed 262 of 417 (62.8 percent) of his passes for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also was viable as a runner, averaging 5.5 yards on his 77 carries while scoring six TDs on the ground. Brock Purdy is the unquestioned starting quarterback for San Francisco, but Dobbs' recent on-field work should give him a leg up on the backup job ahead of holdover Brandon Allen.

Rico Dowdle DAL RB
Cowboys' Rico Dowdle: Remaining with Dallas
2h agoDowdle is set to re-sign with the Cowboys, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Following the free-agent departure of Tony Pollard, Dowdle is poised to reclaim his role in a Dallas backfield that also currently includes Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis and Snoop Conner. Chances are, the Cowboys will add further RB depth via free agency or the draft, so until the team's personnel at the position is settled, Dowdle's fantasy upside for the 2024 season will be difficult to gauge.
-
Alexander Mattison MIN RB
Raiders' Alexander Mattison: Set to join Las Vegas backfield
3h agoMattison is in line to sign with the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
In 16 games for the Vikings during the 2023 regular season, Mattison had 180 carries for 700 yards and caught 30 of his 44 targets for 192 yards and three receiving TDs. With the Raiders, Mattison -- who turns 26 in June -- is slated to provide the team with needed backfield depth and a complementary option alongside 2022 fourth-rounder Zamir White following the free-agent departure of Josh Jacobs. Assuming White serves as Las Vegas' top RB option, Mattison's weekly upside will be modest, but if White is injured or struggles at all as the 2024 season progresses, Mattison could reenter the fantasy lineup equation.

Chase Young SF DE
Chase Young: Looks set to sign with New Orleans
3h agoYoung is expected to sign a contract with the Saints after visiting with the team Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Young, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft and former Defensive Rookie of the Year, was acquired by the 49ers prior to last season's trade deadline. He tallied 2.5 sacks across nine regular-season games with San Francisco but was allowed to walk in free agency, where it looks like he'll get a fresh start in New Orleans. Young looks to finally be back in top form after knee issues significantly hampered him in 2021 and 2022, and it would be an ideal situation for him to pair with (and learn from) veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan with the Saints.

Drew Smyly CHC SP
Cubs' Drew Smyly: Could serve as spot starter
3m agoSmyly could start the regular season in the rotation with Jameson Taillon (back) set to miss some time into April, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Taillon could return as soon as April 8 in San Diego, but the Cubs will have to fill his rotation spot until then. Justin Steele is set to start Opening Day on March 28, and Chicago gets an off day after that. However, the Cubs then have games on five straight days, so a full rotation will likely be needed. Beyond Steele, Kyle Hendricks and Shota Imanaga should be locked into starting spots, and Jordan Wicks is making a strong case in camp. That could leave Smyly, Javier Assad and Hayden Wesneski to compete for the No. 5 spot, at least until Taillon returns.
-
Kyle Hendricks CHC SP
Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Likely to slot in second
15m agoHendricks appears to be lined up to start Chicago's second game of the regular season, behind Opening Day starter Justin Steele, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
The southpaw Steele has emerged as the team's definitive ace, but the rotation gets a little more jumbled after that. Hendricks makes sense in the No. 2 spot, particularly as a veteran righty with Shota Imanaga, Jordan Wicks and possibly Drew Smyly joining Steele as left-handed starting options. Hendricks won't wow with strikeouts, though he's a steady pitcher who recorded a solid 3.74 ERA across 24 starts last season, giving him some fantasy value in the right matchups.

Dominic Smith WAS 1B
Cubs' Dominic Smith: Less competition for role
26m agoSmith seems likely to make the Cubs' Opening Day roster, per Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, and he now has less competition with Matt Mervis getting optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.
Smith would give Chicago a left-handed power bat off the bench as well as a veteran option should Michael Busch falter at first base. It may not be a fantasy-friendly role right away, but Smith could have more value down the road if his playing time increases. The 28-year-old hit 12 home runs across 153 games with Washington last season to go along with a .254 batting average.
-
Matt McLain CIN SS
Reds' Matt McLain: Scratched with shoulder issue
31m agoMcLain was scratched from Monday's exhibition against the Giants due to left shoulder soreness.
The team notes that this move was merely precautionary, but McLain's status will be worth keeping an eye on over the next few days as the 2024 campaign nears. Yan Contreras will start at shortstop Monday evening in McLain's place.
-
Elier Hernandez TEX LF
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Sent to minors
36m agoHernandez was assigned to minor-league camp Monday.
Hernandez showed flashes of potential in March while with the big club, recording eight hits in 31 at-bats to go along with six RBI, four walks and five runs scores across 20 appearances. He played in 14 big-league contests a season ago for the Rangers and will likely be a candidate for a mid-season promotion again in 2024.
-
Sandro Fabian TEX RF
Rangers' Sandro Fabian: Joins minors camp
40m agoFabian was assigned to minor-league camp Monday.
Fabian struggled against big-league arms over the last few weeks, collecting three hits in 22 at-bats while driving in one and striking out eight times in 18 contests. He'll aim to put this rocky start in the rear-view mirror and should join Triple-A Round Rock for the 2024 campaign after slashing .288/.331/.523 with 23 homers, 78 RBI, six stolen bases and 67 runs scored over 117 appearances with the Express a season ago.

Tyrese Haliburton IND PG
Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton: Returns for second half
5m agoHaliburton (undisclosed) is starting the second half of Monday's game against Cleveland, Alex Golden of the 'Setting the Pace' podcast reports.
The nature of Haliburton's trip to the locker room at the end of the first half remains a mystery. Regardless, he warmed up for the second half and was then on the floor with the rest of Indiana's usual starters to resume play.
-
Alex Caruso CHI SG
Bulls' Alex Caruso: Shaken up Monday
9m agoCaruso exited to the locker room in the first quarter of Monday's contest after taking a hard fall, Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com reports.
Caruso was clearly hampered by something after the incident, as he committed a foul in order to exit the contest. Caruso entered Monday's game dealing with toe soreness, but it's unclear if Monday's intermittent absence is related. Westerlund notes that Caruso exited the floor while biting his jersey in frustration, so his status will need to be monitored.
-
De'Anthony Melton PHI SG
76ers' De'Anthony Melton: Still without clear return date
19m agoHead coach Nick Nurse said Monday that he had no update on the status of Melton, who hasn't played since Feb. 27 due to lumbar spine bone stress, Derek Bodner of AllPHLY.com reports.
Melton is scheduled to be re-evaluated later in the coming days once his two-week off-loading period concludes, but his return doesn't appear to be imminent. Nurse mentioned within the past two days that the other two 76ers players dealing with long-term injuries -- Joel Embiid (knee) and Robert Covington (knee) -- have resumed non-contact on-court work, so both are seemingly closer to playing than Melton at this point. With the growing likelihood that his absence will stretch into April, Melton isn't worth holding in the majority of redraft leagues.

Tyrese Haliburton IND PG
Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton: Headed to locker room
22m agoHaliburton went to the locker room during the second quarter of Monday's game against the Cavaliers, Alex Golden of the 'Setting the Pace' podcast reports.
Haliburton was subbed out with a few minutes remaining in the first half and immediately went to the locker room, but the team has yet to reveal any details on his departure. T.J. McConnell and Ben Sheppard would likely be asked to take over at point guard for the second half if Haliburton is unable to return.
-
Rudy Gobert MIN C
Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Unavailable Monday
1h agoGobert (ribs) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Jazz, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Gobert will miss his second straight contest while recovering from a left rib sprain. Naz Reid should draw another start at center in Gobert's absence.
-
OG Anunoby NY SF
Knicks' OG Anunoby: Set for multi-game absence
1h agoAnunoby (elbow) is expected to miss time beyond Monday's game against Golden State, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Anunoby has already been downgraded to out for Monday's clash, and while the timeline for his return remains murky, Wojnarowski notes that the forward will miss more than just one game while dealing with a flare-up of his right elbow injury. This update points to Anunoby missing Thursday's matchup in Denver and possibly Saturday's contest against Brooklyn, but more information should become available as the team's medical staff learns about the severity of the issue.
-
Dmitry Kulikov FLA D
Panthers' Dmitry Kulikov: Receives two-game suspension
3h agoKulikov was suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for an illegal check to the head on Tampa Bay's Conor Sheary during Saturday's contest.
Kulikov will be eligible to return to the lineup Sunday against Philadelphia. He picked up a match penalty for the hit at the 3:38 mark of the second period in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning. Kulikov has generated 16 assists, 61 shots on goal, 70 blocked shots and 121 hits in 64 contests this campaign. Tobias Bjornfot will probably replace Kulikov in the lineup Thursday versus Nashville.
-
Ryan Lindgren NYR D
Rangers' Ryan Lindgren: Deemed week-to-week
3h agoLindgren (lower body) is expected to be out of action for a few weeks, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
Lindgren's injury, which he sustained in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Islanders, isn't as bad as the Rangers initially feared. Still, it is unclear if he will return before the end of the regular season. Lindgren has collected 13 points, 88 blocked shots and 100 hits in 66 games this season. The Rangers recalled Brandon Scanlin from AHL Hartford on Monday to serve as a depth option. Chad Ruhwedel will probably draw into the lineup Tuesday versus Winnipeg due to Lindgren's absence.
-
Logan Stankoven DAL C
Stars' Logan Stankoven: Back with big club
4h agoStankoven was recalled from AHL Texas on Monday.
Stankoven has been up and down from the minors while appearing in 11 straight contests for Dallas. He has five goals and nine points at the NHL level in 2023-24.
-
Sam Montembeault MON G
Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Between pipes against Oilers
4h agoMontembeault will tend the twine on the road versus Edmonton on Tuesday.
Montembeault is mired in a four-game losing streak during which he has gone 0-2-2 with a 11 goals allowed on 124 shots. The netminder continues to split the load with Cayden Primeau, who has been getting more work since the Canadiens traded Jake Allen to the Devils at the deadline.
-
Rourke Chartier OTT C
Senators' Rourke Chartier: Surfaces on IR
4h agoChartier (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site.
Chartier is poised to miss his fifth straight game Tuesday versus Boston. It's unclear at this time when he will be able to return to the lineup. Chartier has chipped in two goals, one assist and 40 shots on net in 37 outings this season.
-
Pat Maroon BOS LW
Bruins' Patrick Maroon: Labeled week-to-week
5h agoMaroon (back) is still considered week-to-week, Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe reports Monday.
Maroon has been sidelined since Jan. 27 versus the Ducks and will have to wait even longer to make his Bruins debut. Before the veteran got hurt, he was mired in a 13-game goal drought during which he registered a meager nine shots on net to go with two assists.
