Yahoo: Top 30 Drivers
Yahoo / Fantasy Live / Fox: Quick Picks: Coming Soon
After a bit of a short week following a rain-delayed Monday race at Pocono, the Sprint Cup Series will head to Michigan International Speedway this weekend. The 2.0-mile, D-shaped oval will host Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400, and the wide racing surface at MIS should create some interesting restarts and have drivers searching for grip up and down the track all afternoon.
Michigan's spacious layout has also been known to create long green flag stretches, and passing can become difficult as the field becomes strung out over the course of long runs. The lack of cautions can also lead to fuel mileage coming into play, and almost every year, it seems like at least one of the races at MIS is decided when the leader runs out gas in the closing laps.
While there is no way to predict who will win a fuel mileage war, there are several drivers that seem to have a knack for finishing near the front at Michigan, including several middle-tier drivers. As a result, I will definitely be looking to save from starts from the top options in each tier of the Yahoo game this weekend.
The B-List is especially loaded with appealing sleepers, so don't be afraid to put the big names on the back burner for a race. Remember, the season isn't even half over, so saving starts now is crucial. Take advantage of effective alternatives whenever you can, and Sunday's race is a golden opportunity to do just that.
1. KEVIN HARVICK, #4 BUSCH BEER/JIMMY JOHNS, STEWART-HAAS RACING [YAHOO CLASS A]
He leads all drivers with five top five finishes in the last six races at Michigan. In fact, Harvick has been the runner-up in five of the last six races at the track. Needless to say, he is a safe bet to contend for the win this weekend.
2. JOEY LOGANO, #22 SHELL-PENNZOIL, TEAM PENSKE[YAHOO CLASS A]
Since joining Team Penske in 2013, no one has been at Michigan than Logano. He has finished in the top 10 in all six of his starts here in the No. 22, compiling a series-best 5.7 average finish and leading a series-high 194 laps led.
3. BRAD KESELOWSKI, #2 MILLER LITE, TEAM PENSKE [YAHOO CLASS A]
Over the last 10 races at Michigan, Keselowski leads all drivers with a 9.3 average finish. He has finished in the top 15 in nine straight starts, here finishing third or better three times and reeling off four straight top 10s.
4. MARTIN TRUEX, JR., #78 FURNITURE ROW, FURNITURE ROW RACING [YAHOO CLASS B]
His numbers have been on the rise at most tracks for the better part of the last year, and Michigan is no exception. Truex logged third-place finishes in both races here last season, and he has three top three finishes in his last six starts at MIS.
5. MATT KENSETH, #20 DOLLLAR GENERAL/DEWALT, JOE GIBBS RACING [YAHOO CLASS A]
Kenseth has five top 15s in six starts at Michigan since joining Joe Gibbs racing, and he was particularly dominant here last season. After finishing fourth in the June race, he led 146 of the 200 laps on his way to a win in the August event.
