Fantasy Baseball News and Notes
It seems as if the Philadelphia Phillies dodged a huge bullet with SP Vincent Velasquez’s MRI results. Velasquez left his most recent start with bicep soreness and many surrounding the team felt that he was in danger of possible elbow surgery. The good news is that the MRI did not show a tear, and he is expected to return as soon as his stint on the DL is over.
Jimmy Rollins’ stay with the Chicago White Sox has ended as the team called up top SS prospect Tim Anderson on Friday. Expect the requisite growing pains with Anderson, but he should emerge as one of the top AL shortstops in due time. Anderson has tons of speed and should hit double-digit HRs, especially in the White Sox’s small ballpark.
The Tampa Bay Rays activated 1B/2B Logan Forsythe off the DL on Friday. Look for Forsythe to once again be leading off for the Rays. Steve Pearce will no longer see action at 2B, but he still should maintain his eligibility there for the remainder of the season.
With Chris Parmelee and Mark Teixeira both on the DL, Robert Refsnyder is now the full-time 1B for the New York Yankees. Refsnyder has limited offensive ability, but he can hit for a solid average. The more important question is when will the Yankees finally call up OF Aaron Judge? Judge might be the most prodigious power hitter in the minor leagues. The Yankees need to get younger and see what they have with their young talent. I think Judge will be up by August the latest.
I am hoping that the Cleveland Indians finally give OF Tyler Naquin a chance to win a full-time job in the OF. Naquin has hit every time the team has inserted him into the starting lineup including showing HR power. Pick him up now if he is available on your league’s waiver wire.
