Yahoo: Top 30 Drivers

Yahoo / Fantasy Live / Fox: Quick Picks

The Sprint Cup Series rolled into Sonoma Raceway this for the first road course race of 2016, and Carl Edwards captured the pole for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 with a lap of 95.777 mph in the final round of qualifying.

A.J. Allmendinger will join him on the front row, marking his fourth front row starts in the last five road course events. Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five. Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing were also among the winners as both teams placed three of their four drivers in the top 12.

On the flip side, there were several big names that struggled in qualifying. Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski qualified outside the top 10, and Matt Kenseth, Austin, and Kevin Harvick will start outside the top 20. Further back, Ryan Blaney, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Greg Biffle will start from outside the top 25.

In 27 races at Sonoma, 19 drivers have won after qualifying in the top 10, including eight from the front row. Meanwhile, just two races have been won by a driver starting outside the top 20.

With the starting lineup for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 now set, it's time to take a closer look at some drivers to target when you build your lineups at DraftKings. Don't forget to follow along with the action Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET on FS1.

Must-Own Drivers

Kevin Harvick ($10,400): The laps led and fastest laps run categories aren't as important at a road course, which makes Harvick a very attractive option after his 25th-place qualifying run. He finished fourth at Sonoma last year, and he has the fourth-best average finish over the last ten road course events. I will be shocked if Harvick isn't one of the biggest movers of the race and a top three scorer at DraftKings this weekend.

A.J. Allmendinger ($9,600): He is one of the best road racers in the series, and Allmendinger will be looking to lead early and often as he tries to win to secure a spot in the Chase. He starts second, and he has led more than 20 laps in three of his last four road course starts, winning at Watkins Glen in 2014. He is a source of cap relief most weeks, but Allmendinger can be a focal point of a lineup at Sonoma.

Carl Edwards ($9,100): Edwards starts from the pole, and he is more than capable of dominating Sunday's race. He has three finishes of third or better in the last five races at Sonoma, including a win, and he has four top-five finishes in his last road course starts overall.

Value Plays

Kasey Kahne ($8,700): Kahne has been excellent at Sonoma, logging six top 15s in his last seven starts, including three straight top 10s. He starts 19th Sunday, so 10-plus points through place differential and 40-plus fantasy points are a real possibility.

Brad Keselowski ($8,100): His numbers at Sonoma aren't great, but his three second-place finishes at Watkins Glen are proof of his road course skill. He doesn't start deep in the field, but starting 12th with the potential for a top five finish still gives him plenty of upside at a price that won't break the bank.

Matt Kenseth ($7,600): Road racing is not his specialty, but Kenseth's salary reflects his lackluster road course numbers, and he has some upside after qualifying 23rd. He has finished better than 23rd in four of his last five starts at Sonoma and has two top 15s at the track during the same stretch.

Austin Dillon ($7,300): Dillon qualified 24th, but he has finished 17th in both of his Cup starts at Sonoma. As long as he can deliver a similar result this weekend, he should provide 30-plus fantasy points for an affordable price, and his added experience could lead to an even bigger score.

Greg Biffle ($6,700): Biffle was underpriced, to begin with, and his value increased exponentially after he qualified 32nd. He has four top 10s in his last six starts at Sonoma and a 14.8 average finish at the track for his career. Biffle should give 15-plus points in the place differential category, making him an excellent low-priced addition.

Sleeper Special

Patrick Carpentier ($6,000): He has limited experience at the Cup level, but he has a ton of road racing experience in other series and in two previous starts at Sonoma, Carpentier has finished 23rd and 11th. He starts 34th Sunday, and with a top 25 not out of the question, Carpentier has a chance to be a solid source of cap relief.
