Aidan Hutchinson DET DE
Lions' Aidan Hutchinson: Doing well at practice
15h agoLions defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers said Thursday that Hutchinson (leg) has looked "really good" at voluntary offseason workouts, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Hutchinson suffered a fractured tibia and fibula roughly seven months ago, and he was initially provided a four- to six-month recovery timetable. The star pass rusher's rehab appears to have been on the quicker side, given that Detroit had expressed optimism about him returning down the stretch last season, had the team advanced all the way to the Super Bowl. Hutchinson has already resumed running at full speed and participating in individual drills, and while Rodgers noted that his workload will continue to be managed into training camp, he remains on track for Week 1. The Lions picked up Hutchinson's fifth-year option late April.

D.J. Humphries KC OT
D.J. Humphries: Yet to sign reported deal with SF
1d agoHumphries and the 49ers have not yet agreed upon a contract despite a late-April report that the veteran offensive lineman had signed with the team, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
It was Humphries' representation that initially announced that the sides had agreed to a contract, but per Maiocco, that deal was never finalized. Maiocco also reports that "nothing appears imminent" between Humphries and San Francisco, making the 2015 first-round draft pick very much still a free agent. Since the reported deal, San Francisco has agreed to contracts with veteran offensive linemen Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere, so it's unclear whether the organization has maintained interest in signing Humphries.

John Jenkins LV DT
Ravens' John Jenkins: Lands in Baltimore
1d agoThe Ravens signed Jenkins to a one-year contract Friday.
Jenkins is a veteran of 13 NFL campaigns who played the previous two years with Las Vegas. He logged a career-high 581 defensive snaps while starting all 17 regular-season games with the Raiders last year, totaling 46 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and two defensed passes. Baltimore is set up front with Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones and Broderick Washington, so Jenkins will likely work in a rotational role with his new squad.

Greg Zuerlein NYJ K
Greg Zuerlein: Cut following failed physical
2d agoThe Jets released Zuerlein (knee) with a failed physical designation Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Zuerlein landed on injured reserve after Week 8 last season due to a left knee injury but was activated from the list prior to a Week 17 matchup with the Bills. He didn't attempt a kick in that game and then was placed on IR afterward, ending his campaign having made nine of 15 field-goal attempts and 13 of 14 point-after tries. The Jets announced the current move earlier Friday, but the reason for his release wasn't known until the NFL posted its transaction log for the day. New York will move forward with Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis this offseason, while the 37-year-old Zuerlein presumably will need to prove his health in order to earn another opportunity.
-
Greg Joseph NYJ K
49ers' Greg Joseph: Headed to 49ers
2d agoThe 49ers are slated to sign Joseph, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
In a combined eight regular-season appearances in 2024 (split between the Giants, Commanders and Jets), Joseph made 16 of 20 field-goal attempts, along with all 11 of his PAT tries. With the 49ers, Joseph will have an opportunity to compete with 2023 third-rounder Jake Moody, who has been San Francisco's kicker for the last two campaigns.

Brock Purdy SF QB
49ers' Brock Purdy: Gets massive five-year extension
2d agoPurdy and the 49ers agreed to terms Friday on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Purdy's new deal has been the largest domino waiting to fall of San Francisco's offseason, and the 2022 seventh-round pick now gains long-term commitment from the team via a contract that runs through 2030, and which includes $181 million in total guarantees. The 25-year-old is coming off a down season, having dipped essentially across the board in most passing metrics while throwing just 20 touchdowns, as opposed to the 31 passing scores he logged in 2023. San Francisco's offense as a whole tumbled in 2024, though, an outcome that can in no small part be blamed on injuries to Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) and Christian McCaffrey (knee). The 49ers also inked George Kittle to a four-year extension this offseason, a particularly notable signing given that the standout tight end may operate as Purdy's top pass catcher to kick off the 2025 season, considering Deebo Samuel has been traded to Washington and Aiyuk is still in the process of recovering. Still, with McCaffrey back in action, plus Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson available to lead the wide-receiver room until Aiyuk is 100 percent, Purdy will have no shortage of offensive weapons at his disposal as he works to make the first year under his new deal a comeback season.

Chase Petty CIN SP
Reds' Chase Petty: Doesn't pitch Saturday
3h agoPetty didn't pitch in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Guardians after being expected to operate as the primary pitcher.
The right-hander was initially listed as Cincinnati's probable starter for Saturday, but Brent Suter instead served as an opener and delivered three scoreless frames. After getting decent length from Suter, manager Terry Francona elected to employ more of a true bullpen game than call upon Petty, who has surrendered 13 earned runs with a 7:8 K:BB in his first 5.1 big-league innings. It remains to be seen if Petty will receive another turn through the rotation.
-
Emilio Pagan CIN RP
Reds' Emilio Pagan: Secures 11th save
3h agoPagan struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-1 win versus the Guardians.
The right-hander needed just 10 pitches to retire the heart of Cleveland's lineup in order and record his 11th save of the year. After a stretch in which Pagan gave up six earned runs in seven appearances, he's delivered two straight clean outings to begin the series against the Guardians. He's thrown just 26 pitches between the two appearances, but the fact Pagan has pitched in the past two games could affect his availability for Sunday's series finale.

Slade Cecconi CLE SP
Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Fans eight in season debut
3h agoCecconi (0-1) struck out eight but took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks over five-plus innings in a 4-1 loss to the Reds.
Cecconi was activated from the injured list Saturday after missing the beginning of the campaign due to an oblique issue, and he started off with four scoreless frames before running into any real trouble. The right-hander gave up a solo homer in the fifth and allowed the first two batters to reach in the sixth before being pulled, with both runners coming around to score after his exit. Cecconi served as a swingman for Arizona last season with 13 starts in 20 appearances, and he struggled to a 6.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 77 innings. His career in Cleveland is off to a decent start despite the loss Saturday, but he'll likely need to keep the ball in the yard to find sustained success after allowing a 1.9 HR/9 last year.
-
Tyler Mahle TEX SP
Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Allows one run in fifth win
3h agoMahle (5-1) earned the win Saturday against the Astros, giving up one run on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out three.
Mahle surrendered a run on two hits during the opening inning but blanked Houston for the following five frames for his sixth quality start of the campaign. The right-hander has yet to allow more than two runs in any of his 10 starts and has been one of the best starters in baseball early in 2025 with a 1.47 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 40:18 K:BB over 55 innings.
-
Ronel Blanco HOU SP
Astros' Ronel Blanco: Takes loss despite quality start
3h agoBlanco (3-4) was charged with the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over six innings in a 5-1 loss against the Rangers. He struck out five.
The right-hander came out for the sixth inning with the game tied 1-1, but a Joc Pederson two-run homer put him on the hook for the loss. It's the third straight quality start for Blanco, and he hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since April 6. He has a 3.24 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB across 41.2 innings during that stretch.
-
Ryan Helsley STL RP
Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Notches ninth save
4h agoHelsley picked up the save Saturday against the Royals. He didn't allow a baserunner or record a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.
Helsley retired the side in order on 12 pitches as he delivered his sixth straight scoreless outing to tally his ninth save of the campaign. The right-hander's 1.44 WHIP is still a bit high, but overall he's been effective early in 2025 with a 2.81 ERA and 16:10 K:BB over 16 innings.
-
Mikal Bridges NY SG
Knicks' Mikal Bridges: Tables 22 points Friday
10h agoBridges recorded 22 points (9-15 FG, 4-6 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 119-81 win over the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Bridges chipped in across the board, continuing what has been a strong postseason showing. Although his scoring has been a little up and down, his ability to dominate on the defensive end of the floor has been invaluable. Across 12 playoff appearances, Bridges is averaging 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 three-pointers and 3.0 combined steals and blocks.
-
Karl-Anthony Towns NY C
Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns: Goes for 21 and 12 in Game 6 win
10h agoTowns finished Friday's 119-81 victory over the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 21 points (8-20 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 35 minutes.
Towns dominated the undermanned Celtics, racking up his seventh double-double in the past eight games. Although his scoring average has come down during the playoffs, his importance to this team is non-negotiable. After averaging 23.8 points per game during the regular season, that number has dropped to 19.8 across 12 postseason games. The Knicks will now face the Pacers in what promises to be a spicy matchup, with both teams looking to advance to the big dance.
-
Al Horford BOS C
Celtics' Al Horford: Empty performance Friday
10h agoHorford posted 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt) and two rebounds in 27 minutes during Friday's 119-81 loss to the Knicks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Horford didn't have a tangible impact, going down with the ship as Boston was bundled out of the playoffs. Tasked with playing a bigger role than expected during the postseason due to the fact that Kristaps Porzingis was dealing with an ongoing illness, Horford had some moments but was largely a wash, at best. He played 60 games during the regular season, averaging 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 27.6 minutes per game.
-
Derrick White BOS SG
Celtics' Derrick White: Quiet in Game 6 loss
10h agoWhite accumulated eight points (3-11 FG, 2-8 3Pt), one rebound, two assists and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 119-81 loss to New York in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
White saved his worst for last, joining his teammates by putting up arguably the Celtics' most disappointing performance of the season. Despite the rough ending, it was another strong season for White, who demonstrated his elite two-way skills while averaging 16.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals, 1.1 blocks and 3.5 three-pointers. With Jayson Tatum set to miss a sizeable chunk of the 2025-26 season due to an Achilles injury, White's importance to this team can't be overstated.
-
Hunter Tyson DEN SF
Nuggets' Hunter Tyson: Questionable for series finale
12h agoTyson (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Thunder.
Tyson has missed the last three games of the series due to a right ankle sprain. Even if he's upgraded to available, he isn't expected to play a significant role in the rotation. Tyson has averaged a mere 5.3 minutes per game across four postseason appearances.
-
Russell Westbrook DEN PG
Nuggets' Russell Westbrook: Likely to play Sunday
12h agoWestbrook is probable for Sunday's Game 7 against the Thunder due to a right hand sprain.
Westbrook was limited to 17 minutes off the bench in the Game 6 victory Thursday. Still, even if the veteran floor general landed on the injury report, the probable tag suggests he should be able to suit up. The Nuggets need him to be at his best Sunday, especially if Aaron Gordon (hamstring) ends up being ruled out.
-
Gabriel Vilardi WPG C
Jets' Gabriel Vilardi: Picks up assist
7h agoVilardi recorded an assist in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 6.
Vilardi picked up four points over six games in the second round. That was an improvement for the 25-year-old after he was held off the scoresheet in three first-round outings following his return from an upper-body injury. Vilardi added 21 shots on net, 11 hits, eight blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over nine playoff outings. He was a regular in the Jets' top six in 2024-25, earning 27 goals and 61 points in 71 regular-season games. He's a restricted free agent this offseason, but he should be back in the fold for 2025-26 once he signs a new deal.
-
Kyle Connor WPG LW
Jets' Kyle Connor: Records helper in loss
7h agoConnor notched an assist and four shots on goal in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 6.
Connor closed the postseason on a four-game point streak (one goal, four assists). The winger totaled five goals, 12 helpers, 45 shots on net, 11 hits and a plus-4 rating over 13 playoff appearances while frequently looking like the best player on the ice for the Jets. After a strong playoff run and a career-best 97-point regular season, Connor is poised for big things in 2025-26, which is a contract year for the 28-year-old.
-
Mark Scheifele WPG C
Jets' Mark Scheifele: Scores emotional goal in Game 6
7h agoScheifele scored a goal, doled out nine hits and added two PIM in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 6.
Just hours after the unexpected death of his father, Scheifele chose to suit up in Game 6 with the Jets facing elimination. He gave them a storybook start, scoring the opening goal at 5:28 of the second period, but in a cruel twist, the 32-year-old was in the penalty box when the Stars won the game in overtime. Scheifele ends the playoffs at five goals, six assists and 22 shots on net over 11 appearances. All the best to Scheifele and his family as they navigate the heartbreaking loss of a loved one.
-
Connor Hellebuyck WPG G
Jets' Connor Hellebuyck: Exits playoffs with overtime loss
7h agoHellebuyck stopped 18 of 20 shots in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 6.
Hellebuyck picked up a couple of shutouts in this season, but he lost all three games in Dallas as well as one in Winnipeg. The 31-year-old went 6-7 with a 3.08 GAA and an .866 save percentage over 13 playoff games. Hellebuyck was winless on the road in the postseason, which was a major factor in the Jets' second-round exit, though he remains one of the best regular-season goalies in the league. He'll be the No. 1 between the pipes for the Jets again in 2025-26.
-
Mason Marchment DAL LW
Stars' Mason Marchment: Helps out in overtime
7h agoMarchment logged a power-play assist and six hits in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over the Jets in Game 6.
Marchment put an end to his seven-game point drought when he helped out on Thomas Harley's goal 1:33 into overtime. The 29-year-old Marchment remains in a second-line role, but that unit with Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene struggled to make much of an impact in the second round. Overall, Marchment has earned four points, 21 shots on net, 47 hits, 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 13 playoff contests.
-
Tyler Seguin DAL C
Stars' Tyler Seguin: Provides assist on game-winner
7h agoSeguin notched a power-play assist and fired two shots on goal in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over the Jets in Game 6.
Seguin had been held off the scoresheet for the entire second round before he set up Thomas Harley's goal 1:33 into overtime. The 33-year-old Seguin is still seeing middle-six usage, but the depth of the Stars' offense has allowed him to ease back in after missing most of the regular season due to a hip injury. He's at five points, 17 shots on net, 13 hits, 10 PIM and a minus-2 rating over 13 playoff outings.
