The impressive ride of Zach Britton added another solid week to his 2016 resume. Zach has been successful in all 29 of his save opportunities while extending his scoreless streak to 29.2 innings with 34 strikeouts. His ERA (0.68) is a plus asset with strength in his WHIP (0.83) as well. Brad Brach hasn’t allowed a run over his last 15.2 innings with only three hits and 20 Ks. Darren O’Day is close to returning to the majors. The Orioles hope to have him back next week after a couple of rehab appearances in the minors. Baltimore remains 4th in the majors in bullpen ERA (3.11) after 92 games with 23 wins, eight losses, and 33 saves.
Boston Red Sox
Boston needs to find some stability in the bullpen after losing Craig Kimbrel for three to six weeks. They rank 14th in bullpen ERA (3.77) after 87 games with 12 wins, 13 losses, and 23 saves. Koji Uehara converted his first four save chances, but he left Tuesday night’s game due a chest issue which may lead to a DL stint. Uehara didn’t allow a run or hit over his last 2.1 innings with three Ks. Brad Ziegler tosses three shutout innings with two Ks since moving to the AL. Ziegler is 18-for-20 in save conversions even with a weak fastball (83.5). Heath Hembree has a 1.85 ERA and 23 Ks in his last 24.1 innings.
New York Yankees
Aroldis Chapman improved his shutout streak to 8.2 innings with two hits and nine Ks. Chapman converted 19 of his 20 save opportunities while delivering 40 Ks over 28.1 innings. Andrew Miller allowed four walks in his last 6.2 innings after only walking three batters over 34.1 innings to start the year. Miller has 70 Ks over 41.1 innings in 2016 with a great ERA (1.31) and WHIP (0.73). Dellin Betances has 1.17 ERA over his last 15.1 innings with 22 Ks. On the year, Betances has 81 Ks in 46 innings with growth in his walks (11). New York moved to 9th in bullpen ERA (3.55) after 93 games with 18 wins, ten losses, and 27 saves.
Tampa Bay Rays
Since returning from the DL, Alex Colome tossed 2.1 shutout innings with four Ks and a save. Colome has yet to blow a save in 2016 in his 20 chances. Brad Boxberger allowed a HR in his first rehab game at AAA on July 18th. The Rays hopes to have him back in the majors in the next week or so. Over his last four games, Matt Andriese allowed three runs in 10.1 innings with 12 Ks and a three-inning save. Tampa signed Kevin Jepsen over the last week for bullpen depth. In his two appearances, Kevin didn’t allow a run or baserunners in 1.1 innings. The Rays have the 4th worst bullpen ERA (4.67) after 92 games with 13 wins, 16 losses, and 22 saves.

Drew Storen has a 3.80 ERA over his last 21.1 innings with most of his failure coming on June 27th when he allowed four runs and four baserunners in one-third of an inning.
Chicago White Sox
There has to be some concern with David Robertson. He missed a few games before the All-Star break due to a high left leg strain. In his first game back on the mound since July 6th, Robertson allowed four runs and four baserunners over two-thirds of an inning to blow a save. His ERA slipped to 4.14 with failure as well in his WHIP (1.49). David is 23-for-26 in save conversions. Over his last 22.1 innings, Robertson has a 6.04 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Nate Jones extended his scoreless streak to 8.1 innings with 14 Ks. If I’m surfing the waiver wire for saves, Jones should be one of the most attractive options. Zach Duke continues to throw the ball well. He allowed a run and five baserunners over his last six innings with eight Ks. The White Sox are 8th in bullpen ERA (3.53) after 89 games with 12 wins, 11 losses, and 27 saves.
The Indians dropped to 12th in bullpen ERA (3.63) after 88 games with 13 wins, 15 losses, and 20 saves. Cody Allen improved his shutout streak to nine innings with 11 strikeouts. The Tigers rank 24th in bullpen ERA (4.46) after 93 games with 14 wins, ten losses, and 27 saves.
Kansas City Royals

Wade Davis returned from the DL on July 16th when he threw one shutout inning with one K. He picked up a save on July 18th while recording one out against the Indians. Davis is 20-for-22 in save conversions while offering an edge in ERA (1.17) and WHIP (0.98). Kelvin Herrera has been impressive all season (1.73 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 53 Ks in 41.2 innings). His only blemish over the last month came on July 6th when he allowed two runs and three baserunners in one inning against the Blue Jays. Joakim Soria has faded over his last eight games (five runs and 11 baserunners in 6.1 innings).

Over his last 11 games, Kintzler allowed two runs over 11.2 innings with eight Ks and four saves. Trevor May hasn’t allowed a run over four innings with five Ks since returning from the DL. The Astros are 5th in bullpen ERA (3.14) after 93 games with 18 wins, 11 losses, and 26 saves. Will Harris has been hittable over his last 11.1 innings (16 hits). He allowed five runs and six baserunners in his last 2.1 innings leading to his first blown save. Harris has been successful in nine of his ten save tries with a 1.80 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Luke Gregerson has a 1.38 ERA and 0.69 WHIP over his last 13 innings with 19 Ks. His stats pretty much look in line with his 2015 season. Ken Giles improved his scoreless streak to 9.1 innings with five hits and 12 Ks. Giles has regained his 2015 form giving him a chance at earning saves over the last two months of the year if Harris continues to fade.
Los Angeles Angels
Huston Street picked up his first save since June 14th on July 19th when he threw one shutout inning. His arm has shown plenty of downside risk over his last 13 games (7.36 ERA and 2.64 WHIP). Street has blown two save chance in his ten opportunities. Cam Bedrosian looks ready to steal the closing job in LA. His last run allowed came on May 31st (20.2 innings with 20 Ks). The A’s are 20th in bullpen ERA (4.16) after 94 games with 16 wins, 13 losses, and 27 saves. Ryan Madson earned three saves over the last week while allowing a run and two baserunners in three innings. His arm still shows job losses risk based on his failure over his last nine games (eight runs and 16 baserunners in 9.1 innings). Ryan converted 20 of his 25 save tries in 2016. Ryan Dull saw his 11 inning shutout streak end in his last outing on July 18th when he allowed a run and two baserunners in one inning of work. Dull has a 1.48 ERA and 0.73 WHIP over his last 30.1 innings with 32 Ks. Madson could be traded in the next week or so opening up the door for Dull to close.
After getting lit up for four runs and five baserunners over 2.1 innings before the All-Star break, Steve Cishek earned his 22nd save in 27 chances on July 16th when he threw a shutout inning with two Ks. Edwin Diaz has 13 Ks over his last 5.1 innings with two runs and one walk allowed. His arm has high upside with growth in his command thanks to an electric fastball (96.8). Tom Wilhelmsen has thrown the ball better over his last six innings (one run and five baserunners) since Seattle scooped him up from the waiver wire. The Mariners are 7th in bullpen ERA (3.51) after 93 games with 13 wins, 15 losses, and 24 saves.
The Rangers still rank second to last in the majors in bullpen ERA (5.05) after 94 games with 21 wins, 17 losses, and 33 saves.
