The Bills signed Williams to a one-year contract Thursday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Jayden Daniels: Throws at LSU pro day
    1h ago

Daniels, who opted to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, did so at LSU's pro day Wednesday, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.

Per the report, Daniels, who measured in at 6-foot-3⅝, 210 pounds, was slated to spend time afterward with the Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. As next month's draft approaches, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is viewed as one of the top options at the QB position, along with USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. While Williams is expected to be selected first overall, where Daniels lands remains to be seen, though what is clear is that the top four signal-callers figure to come off the board quickly, in any case.

Jaguars' Josiah Deguara: Inking with Jacksonville
    4h ago

The Jaguars are slated to sign Deguara to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.

Deguara spent the last four seasons handling a depth role in Green Bay, where he was drafted in the third round back in 2020. His versatility both as a blocker and on special teams will boost his chances of earning playing time behind Evan Engram, but Deguara peaked with a 25-245-2 receiving line in 2021 and doesn't appear to have much fantasy potential.

J.K. Dobbins: Lines up AFC West visit
    5h ago

Dobbins (Achilles) is visiting the Chargers on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Dobbins, who was recently medically cleared for football activities, is coming off a left Achilles tear after previously missing all of 2021 and about half of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL and proceeding issues. That medical history undercuts otherwise impressive career numbers for Dobbins, who has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020 as a second-round pick by the Ravens, but only suited up for 24 games in that span. Reuniting with offensive coordinator Greg Roman could make the most sense as a landing spot for Dobbins, but it's possible he doesn't garner more interest than a potential prove-it deal. The Chargers signed Gus Edwards,a former Baltimore backfield mate of Dobbins, early in free agency.

  • Derek Stingley Jr. HOU CB
Texans' Derek Stingley: Slow start, strong finish
    6h ago

Stingley recorded 39 tackles, 13 passes defensed and five interceptions over 11 regular-season games in 2023.

Stingley, a second-year cornerback and 2022 first-round draft pick, suffered a Week 3 hamstring that created issues for the defense early on, but upon his return Week 10, Stingley made an impact. He had interceptions in three straight games, including a Week 13 win over the Broncos. Stingley will return as Houston's top cornerback in 2024.

    DeAndre Houston-Carson: Enters free agency

Houston-Carson recorded 41 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery over 13 regular-season games in 2023.

Houston-Carson started the season in Baltimore then finished up in Houston, where he played a career-high 447 snaps on defense. Injuries on the back end led to Houston-Carson playing a big role for the Texans, including two pivotal plays in a Week 10 win over the Bengals. He entered unrestricted free agency during the offseason.

Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Hits IL with groin strain
    4m ago

The Tigers placed Gipson-Long (groin) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Gipson-Long didn't pitch during the Grapefruit League while battling a left groin strain, so his move to the IL to begin the regular season was fully expected. After an eye-opening finish to the 2023 campaign over his first four big-league starts with the Tigers, Gipson-Long had been expected to compete for a rotation this spring, if the groin injury hadn't cropped up. Because of the missed time in addition to the Tigers' other rotation options being in generally good health, Gipson-Long could be optioned to Triple-A Toledo once he completes a minor-league rehab assignment. Per MLB.com, Gipson-Long has resumed facing hitters in live batting practice as of last week, so he shouldn't be far away from reporting to an affiliate for game action.

  • Miguel Diaz DET RP
Tigers' Miguel Diaz: Cast off 40-man roster
    9m ago

The Tigers designated Diaz for assignment Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Diaz turned in some excellent ratios (0.64 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 16:5 K:BB) over a small sample of 14 innings with the Tigers in 2023, but he wasn't able to maintain anywhere close to that level of success in the spring. He finished Grapefruit League play with a 5:40 ERA and 10:5 K:BB in 8.1 innings, and those results weren't good enough for Diaz to secure a spot in what shapes up a stronger Detroit bullpen in 2024.

Yankees' Jon Berti: On bench after late arrival
    10m ago

Berti is not in the lineup for Thursday's opener in Houston, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The new acquisition's plane didn't arrive in Houston until 2 AM, so Yankees manager Aaron Boone elected to start Oswaldo Cabrera over Berti at third base. Both players should see at-bats at the hot corner until DJ LeMahieu (foot) is ready.

Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: At third base for opener
    13m ago

Cabrera is starting at third base and batting ninth for Thursday's opener in Houston.

New acquisition Jon Berti was a late arrival in Houston, which is why Cabrera is getting the nod at the hot corner in place of the injured DJ LeMahieu (foot). It could ultimately be something of a timeshare at third base between the two until LeMahieu is ready.

  • Spencer Turnbull PHI SP
Phillies' Spencer Turnbull: Making first start Tuesday
    14m ago

Turnbull secured a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day rotation and is scheduled to make his first start Tuesday versus the Reds in Philadelphia, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Turnbull entered spring training on the outside looking in for a rotation spot and was more realistically competing for a long-relief role with the Phillies, but a starting role opened up after Taijuan Walker suffered a shoulder injury last weekend that resulted in him being placed on the 15-day injured list. Though he was lit up to the tune of a 7.26 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in seven starts at the big-league level with the Tigers last season in his first year back from Tommy John surgery, Turnbull owns much more palatable ratios (4.55 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 12.3 K-BB%) over his 302.1 career innings in the majors. The Phillies are hoping that with the elbow procedure further in the rear-view mirror, Turnbull can give the team some quality outings at the back end of the rotation before Walker is ready to return from the IL.

Tigers' Gio Urshela: On bench for opener
    17m ago

Urshela is absent from the lineup for Thursday's season opener against the White Sox.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has opted to roll with Andy Ibanez at third base against southpaw Garrett Crochet. Urshela could still be the favorite to see the bulk of the starts at the hot corner, but they might come mostly versus right-handers initially.

Evans (lower body) will be a game-time call versus Anaheim on Thursday, Kate Shefte of The Seattle Times reports.

Evans and fellow blueliner Gustav Olofsson exited the ice at about the same time, so Olofsson figures to get into the lineup if Evans can't give it a go. It's been an up-and-down campaign for Evans, as he has consistently been shuffled between levels this season. In his last nine outings, the Calgary native appears to have found his offensive stride with a goal and three assists while averaging 17:11 of ice time.
