So, so day for me in daily last night, I played minimal games due to being out of position to focus late on the released lineups. I tried to get pay back from my failed experience in Nashville by stacking the Diamondbacks and Mariners. It would have been a great plan if Sanchez and Freeman didn’t hit two HRs each. In addition, Cano just missed on a HR just before Cruz in the 8th.
Just like every day in daily baseball, it starts with starting pitching. I looked at Fanduel and I noticed they had a $300 games with 2234 entries to win $100,000, it was the same contest I placed second in August second with two entries. With my bankroll fading since the big win (gave back about $7,000), I’ll take one swing while matching the same lineup in some lower tier games.
1. Madison Bumgarner: I only see two aces on the board tonight at the top end. Bumgarner (FD > $11,000 – DK > $13,000) struggled in his last game vs. the Mets when he allowed four runs and nine base runners over five innings. He’s 13-8 in his career against the Dodgers with a 2.57 ERA over 150.2 innings with 151 Ks including 8-5 in LA with a 2.40 ERA and 83 Ks in 90 innings. The Dodgers have outplayed the Giants over the last month even with an undermanned pitching staff. I like aces that pitch against teams that just scored a bunch of runs in a game (18 by LA on Monday) plus the first day back at home may lead to less zip in their bats after a HARD night with the wife. Bumgarner is only a slight favorite and he will be facing a tough opposing pitcher (Maeda). The Dodgers are about league average in strikeouts vs. lefties even with multiple lefties on their roster. Madison will be a tough start tonight based in his high price point so he would be more of an against the grain play at the high end.
2. Jake Arrieta: Arrietta (FD > $11,000 – DK > $12,500) has been a rough ride over the last two months (3.92 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 62 Ks in 66.2 innings). His decline in ACE value is due to a huge step back in his command (59 walks in 153.2 innings) from 2015 (48 walks in 229 innings). If he can’t hit his locations with his pitches or get ahead in the count, his swing miss stuff has less value. In his last seven, Jake walked seven batters while allowing two HRs over five innings. In his two starts in his career vs. the Padres, Arrieta is 1.1 with a 6.00 ERA. His lack of success and high salary would push me elsewhere especially in GPP contest.
