Bills' DeShawn Williams: Lands in Buffalo
1h agoThe Bills signed Williams to a one-year contract Thursday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Williams suited up for 16 regular-season games with the Panthers last season, a span in which he racked up 33 tackles (13 solo) and one sack. He stands to bolster Buffalo's defensive line as a depth piece for the 2024 season.

Jayden Daniels 2005 QB
Jayden Daniels: Throws at LSU pro day
2h agoDaniels, who opted to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, did so at LSU's pro day Wednesday, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Per the report, Daniels, who measured in at 6-foot-3⅝, 210 pounds, was slated to spend time afterward with the Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. As next month's draft approaches, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is viewed as one of the top options at the QB position, along with USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. While Williams is expected to be selected first overall, where Daniels lands remains to be seen, though what is clear is that the top four signal-callers figure to come off the board quickly, in any case.

Josiah Deguara GB TE
Jaguars' Josiah Deguara: Inking with Jacksonville
4h agoThe Jaguars are slated to sign Deguara to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Deguara spent the last four seasons handling a depth role in Green Bay, where he was drafted in the third round back in 2020. His versatility both as a blocker and on special teams will boost his chances of earning playing time behind Evan Engram, but Deguara peaked with a 25-245-2 receiving line in 2021 and doesn't appear to have much fantasy potential.

J.K. Dobbins BAL RB
J.K. Dobbins: Lines up AFC West visit
6h agoDobbins (Achilles) is visiting the Chargers on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dobbins, who was recently medically cleared for football activities, is coming off a left Achilles tear after previously missing all of 2021 and about half of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL and proceeding issues. That medical history undercuts otherwise impressive career numbers for Dobbins, who has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020 as a second-round pick by the Ravens, but only suited up for 24 games in that span. Reuniting with offensive coordinator Greg Roman could make the most sense as a landing spot for Dobbins, but it's possible he doesn't garner more interest than a potential prove-it deal. The Chargers signed Gus Edwards,a former Baltimore backfield mate of Dobbins, early in free agency.

Derek Stingley Jr. HOU CB
Texans' Derek Stingley: Slow start, strong finish
6h agoStingley recorded 39 tackles, 13 passes defensed and five interceptions over 11 regular-season games in 2023.
Stingley, a second-year cornerback and 2022 first-round draft pick, suffered a Week 3 hamstring that created issues for the defense early on, but upon his return Week 10, Stingley made an impact. He had interceptions in three straight games, including a Week 13 win over the Broncos. Stingley will return as Houston's top cornerback in 2024.

DeAndre Houston-Carson HOU DB
DeAndre Houston-Carson: Enters free agency
6h agoHouston-Carson recorded 41 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery over 13 regular-season games in 2023.
Houston-Carson started the season in Baltimore then finished up in Houston, where he played a career-high 447 snaps on defense. Injuries on the back end led to Houston-Carson playing a big role for the Texans, including two pivotal plays in a Week 10 win over the Bengals. He entered unrestricted free agency during the offseason.

Stephen Strasburg WAS SP
Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Heads to 60-day IL
2m agoThe Nationals placed Strasburg (thoracic outlet syndrome) on the 60-day injured list Thursday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Strasburg is essentially medically retired from baseball after he struggled to bounce back from his July 2021 thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, but he remains in the organization after he and the Nationals have thus far been unable to come to an agreement on how to dispense the $105 million he's still owed over the remaining three seasons of the seven-year, $245 million contract he signed in December 2019. Washington ownership is believed to be interested in deferring more of the money remaining in the deal, but Strasburg is already due $80 million in deferred money from 2027 through 2029 and is presumably keen on getting more of his salary up front. Until a resolution on Strasburg's financial situation is reached, he'll remain on the Nationals' books, though placing him on the 60-day IL at least frees up a 40-man roster spot for Washington.

J.B. Bukauskas MIL RP
Brewers' J.B. Bukauskas: Optioned to Triple-A
5m agoThe Brewers optioned Bukauskas to Triple-A Nasvhille on Thursday.
Bukauskas was expected to fill in as a middle reliever in Milwaukee's Opening Day bullpen, but he will instead head to Triple-A after turning in a 1.04 ERA through 8.2 spring innings. Should the Brewers run into bullpen depth issues during the season, the 27-year-old could be one of the first to earn a call back up to Milwaukee.
-
Ryder Ryan PIT RP
Pirates' Ryder Ryan: Added to big-league roster
8m agoThe Pirates selected Ryan's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
Ryan won a spot in the Pirates' bullpen after allowing four runs (three earned) with a 10:4 K:BB over 7.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. He'll likely be used in middle relief.
-
Nate Pearson TOR RP
Blue Jays' Nate Pearson: Part of Opening Day bullpen
8m agoPearson will begin the season on the Blue Jays' 26-man roster.
The 27-year-old right-hander still has a big fastball, averaging 97.9 mph over 42.2 big-league innings last season, but Pearson only managed a 4.85 ERA and 43:18 K:BB. With Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) on the IL to kick off the campaign, there's a spot in the Opening Day bullpen for Pearson, but he hasn't been mentioned by manager John Schneider as a candidate to fill in for Romano in the ninth inning and will likely work in lower-leverage situations.
-
Emerson Hancock SEA SP
Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Recalled from Triple-A
12m agoThe Mariners recalled Hancock from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
Hancock had been sent down last week, but he will enter the Mariners' rotation as a replacement for the injured Bryan Woo (elbow). The 24-year-old's first start of the season is slated to come Monday against the Guardians.
-
Spencer Horwitz TOR 1B
Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Optioned to Triple-A
15m agoHorwitz was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
The 26-year-old came into camp hoping to land a backup job at first base behind Vladimir Guerrero, but Horwitz batted only .125 (5-for-40) in Grapefruit League action, and the signings of Daniel Vogelbach and Joey Votto (ankle) cut off his path to the 26-man roster. Horwitz slashed .337/.450/.495 with 10 homers in 107 games for Buffalo last season, but he may need to add more power to his profile to get serious consideration for a regular job in the majors.

Caleb Martin MIA SF
Heat's Caleb Martin: Expected to play Friday
1h agoMartin (ankle) is probable for Friday's game versus the Trail Blazers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Martin continues to deal with a nagging ankle injury but is expected to play through it Friday. If Martin is upgraded to available, he should continue to serve as one of Miami's primary options off the bench at the forward position.
-
Jaime Jaquez Jr. MIA SF
Heat's Jaime Jaquez: Dealing with minor ankle issue
1h agoJaquez is probable for Friday's game against Portland due to an ankle injury, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Jaquez continues to manage knee and ankle injuries, but he's missed just one game since the beginning of February. Over his last 26 appearances (five starts), Jaquez has averaged 9.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steals in 27.8 minutes per game.
-
Orlando Robinson MIA C
Heat's Orlando Robinson: Heads back to G League
1h agoThe Heat assigned Robinson to the G League's Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Robinson will head back to the G League now that Kevin Love's (heel) return is imminent. Robinson should continue to receive increased playing time with Sioux Falls.
-
Kevin Love MIA PF
Heat's Kevin Love: Officially probable
1h agoLove (heel/personal) is probable for Friday's game against Portland, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Love missed Thursday's practice for personal reasons and continues to manage a heel issue but should still suit up Friday, which would mark his first appearance since Feb. 27. If the veteran is cleared to suit up, he'll presumably handle a limited role off the bench.
-
Jimmy Butler MIA SF
Heat's Jimmy Butler: Expected to play against Portland
1h agoButler (illness) is probable for Friday's game versus the Trail Blazers, Tim Reynolds of Associated Press reports.
Butler is expected to return to action Friday after missing Miami's previous contest with a non-COVID illness. If he's upgraded to available, the star forward will likely reclaim his starting spot from Jaime Jaquez (ankle).
-
Duncan Robinson MIA SG
Heat's Duncan Robinson: Won't play Friday
1h agoRobinson (back) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Trail Blazers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Robinson and Tyler Herro (foot) remain out, so Patty Mills is in line to draw another start at shooting guard. Robinson's next chance to suit up will come Sunday in Washington, but he'll be unlikely to play in that contest unless he can return to practice Saturday.
-
Ryker Evans SEA D
Kraken's Ryker Evans: Game-time decision against Ducks
35m agoEvans (lower body) will be a game-time call versus Anaheim on Thursday, Kate Shefte of The Seattle Times reports.
Evans and fellow blueliner Gustav Olofsson exited the ice at about the same time, so Olofsson figures to get into the lineup if Evans can't give it a go. It's been an up-and-down campaign for Evans, as he has consistently been shuffled between levels this season. In his last nine outings, the Calgary native appears to have found his offensive stride with a goal and three assists while averaging 17:11 of ice time.
-
Elias Lindholm VAN C
Canucks' Elias Lindholm: Out Thursday
42m agoLindholm (undisclosed) isn't expected to return Thursday versus Dallas, per Farhan Lalji of TSN.
Lindholm is still day-to-day, so perhaps he'll be an option Sunday against Anaheim. The 29-year-old, who is set to miss his second straight game, has 14 goals and 41 points in 71 outings in 2023-24. Arshdeep Bains is projected to draw into the lineup Thursday due to Lindholm's absence.
-
Dakota Joshua VAN C
Canucks' Dakota Joshua: Expected to return Thursday
1h agoJoshua (upper body) will be activated off long-term injured reserve and play Thursday versus Dallas, according to Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com.
Joshua has 13 goals, 26 points, 46 PIM and 195 hits in 53 contests this season. He was last in the lineup Feb. 13. The 27-year-old is projected to serve on the second line alongside J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser in his return, but Joshua might not be deployed on the power play.
-
Igor Shesterkin NYR G
Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: Slated to start Thursday
1h agoShesterkin is set to start on the road against Colorado on Thursday, per Ryan Boulding of NHL.com.
Shesterkin is going through a rough patch in which he's posted a 3.56 GAA and an .881 save percentage across his past five outings. He's 31-15-2 with a 2.65 GAA and a .911 save percentage in 48 contests overall. Shesterkin will have a difficult time rebounding against the Avalanche, who lead the league offensively with 3.72 goals per game.
-

Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Facing Ducks
1h agoGrubauer was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate, Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network reports, and is expected to get the home start versus Anaheim on Thursday.
Grubauer has struggled of late, going 0-3-1 with a 4.04 GAA and an .870 save percentage in five appearances. He is 10-13-2 overall this season. The Ducks are averaging 27.0 shots on goal, 30th in the NHL.
-
