Rather than hold this info back until a I finish, I'll post the pitcher early. I have to run out for about an hour before looking at the batters.
I donated $600 dollars back to Fanduel last night with both of my teams finishing with just over 125 points. Buchholz proved to be a solid value on the day, but the stacks didn’t come in with him. Jon Gray made one mistake while losing some depth in the game due his erratic game. If he finished with a win, Jon would have been a winning play.
1. Jose Fernandez: (FD > $10,800 – DK > $12,500) has won only one of his last six starts while underperforming in three of his last four games (6.00 ERA and 1.61 WHIP). His Ks have remained strong during this span (29), but he’s allowed six HRs over his last 47 innings. Jose continues to be an elite arm at home (9-2 with a 2.07 ERA and 119 Ks over 82.2 innings). In his only career start vs. the Royals; Fernandez delivered seven shutout innings with three hits and six Ks. The Royals have won nine straight games (14 of 16 as well) thanks to only 12 runs allowed. They’ve face the Twins, (7), Tigers (3), and White Sox (3) during most of their hot stretch. Miami remains a streaky teams in August with one three games winning streak while losing three straight games three times. Jose has impact upside even against a team that ranks 25th in strikeouts (930 – 7.4 per game) after 125 games. His success at home forces me to have him in the mix in some way tonight. Vegas has him as the biggest home favorite on the board as well.
2. Yu Darvish (FD > $10,500 – DK > $12,000) still hasn’t won a game in his four starts on the road. His best start of the season came on August 7th on the road against Houston (seven shutout innings with eight Ks). His command (four walks over his last 39 innings) has been electric over his last six starts while striking out 48 batters. Yu pitched into the seventh inning in each of his last four starts. Darvish tossed 6.2 shutout innings with eight Ks in his only start in his career against the Rangers. Texas is trending backwards (three straight losses) while scoring only nine runs). His best success has been against lefties (.193 with 32 Ks in 99 at bats). Yu will win his first road game with double digit upside in Ks with an outside chance at a shutout.
