Royce Freeman LAR RB
Cowboys' Royce Freeman: Picked up by Dallas
15h agoFreeman signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Freeman spent his first three seasons with the Broncos before before stops with the Panthers, Texans and Rams the last three years. The journeyman tallied 319 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Los Angeles last year across 14 games. Dallas lost Tony Pollard to free agency, so the running back room is currently filled with the likes of Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn (ankle), Malik Davis and Snoop Conner. Thus, Freeman will presumably have an opportunity to carve out a role for himself. However, the team could still opt to invest at the position in the draft.

Trent Taylor CHI WR
49ers' Trent Taylor: Returns to The Bay
18h agoTaylor signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Lindsey Pallares of the team's official site reports.
Taylor started his career in San Francisco before a two-year stay with the Bengals and spending the 2023 campaign with the Bears. The 29-year-old will likely have the opportunity to earn a role in the return game with the departure of Ray-Ray McCloud in free agency this offseason.

Trent Taylor CHI WR
Trent Taylor: Could return to The Bay
19h agoTaylor has talked to the 49ers about a potential return to the team this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Taylor was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2017 Draft and spent three seasons there before stops in Cincinnati and Chicago. The 49ers do currently have a void in their return game, with Ray-Ray McCloud now in Atlanta, which is likely where the interest in Taylor lies.

Deshaun Watson CLE QB
Browns' Deshaun Watson: Throwing full speed
21h agoWatson (shoulder) said Tuesday he's already resumed "throwing full speed" but that he's uncertain how large a workload he'll handle during OTAs and minicamp, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Watson clarified that certain members of the Browns' medical staff are in favor of a more conservative approach to the quarterback's recovery from right shoulder surgery, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, which would wait until training camp to have him fully practice. Still, Watson has been fully forthright in his confidence to be available for the Browns' season opener, and there appear to be no real worries about his Week 1 status. In case Watson misses part of the offseason, or struggles during the fall, Cleveland can lean on newly-signed, experienced backups Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley.

Odell Beckham Jr. BAL WR
Odell Beckham: Nothing imminent with Miami
22h agoDolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that there's "nothing imminent" on a deal between Beckham and the team, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Beckham was reportedly extended a contract offer by Miami after visiting with the team back in March, but it doesn't appear that a signing is around the corner. The 31-year-old is coming off a forgettable 14-game season with the Ravens, in which he put up a 35-565-3 receiving line, but he could find more success as a No. 3 option behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. It could be that Beckham will need to wait until after the dust of the 2024 NFL Draft has settled to find a landing spot.

Jaylen Waddle MIA WR
Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Fifth-year option to be exercised
22h agoGeneral manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that he expects the Dolphins to pick up Waddle's fifth-year option, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
The Dolphins have consistently stated a desire to come to terms with Waddle on a long-term contract, and Grier specifically dismissed trade rumors earlier this offseason. The third-year pro has recorded three straight 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career, becoming the first wideout to do so in franchise history, and there's little question of his value as a No. 2 read behind Tyreek Hill. Picking up Waddle's fifth-year option will keep him under contract with the Dolphins for two more seasons.

Kyle Bradish BAL SP
Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Sharp in first rehab start
2m agoBradish (elbow) yielded just one hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings in his first rehab start with Double-A Bowie on Tuesday.
Bradish needed just 44 pitches to cruise through his three frames and was hitting 95-to-96 mph on the radar gun, per Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com. It's a terrific first step for the right-hander as he works his way back from a partial UCL tear in his right elbow. Bradish will need a handful of rehab outings before rejoining the Orioles' rotation.

Vladimir Gutierrez MIL RP
Brewers' Vladimir Gutierrez: Booted off 40-man roster
4m agoThe Brewers designated Gutierrez for assignment Wednesday.
After being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays earlier this month, Gutierrez will end his time on the Brewers' 40-man roster without having made an appearance for the big club. Milwaukee will replace him on the 40-man roster with right-hander Tobias Myers, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Nashville ahead of Wednesday's game against the Padres. Gutierrez had made two appearances (one start) with Nashville and will stick around with the affiliate if he clears waivers.
-
Jared Koenig MIL RP
Brewers' Jared Koenig: Sent back to Nashville
6m agoThe Brewers optioned Koenig to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.
He'll cede his spot in the Milwaukee bullpen to right-hander Tobias Myers, whose contract was selected from Nashville ahead of Wednesday's series finale versus San Diego. After being called up from Nashville on Sunday, Koenig proceeded to pitch in relief in both of the first two games of the series with San Diego, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings and striking out two while allowing three hits and no walks.
-
Max Kepler MIN RF
Twins' Max Kepler: Starting rehab assignment Thursday
7m agoKepler (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Kepler was cleared to run the bases this week and came out of it week, paving the way for his return to game action. He's missed the last week-and-a-half of action with a right knee contusion. Kepler shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before being activated.
-
Tobias Myers MIL RP
Brewers' Tobias Myers: Summoned to majors
8m agoThe Brewers selected Myers' contract from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.
Milwaukee was eager to build in an extra day of rest for all five members of its rotation, so rather than having ace Freddy Peralta take the hill Wednesday on normal rest, the Brewers will opt for a bullpen day in the series finale with the Padres. Bryse Wilson will open the contest and should be capable of covering 3-to-4 innings, but Myers could be called upon to pitch multiple innings behind him. Myers, who had been working as a starter at Nashville this season, accrued a 1.84 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB across 14.2 innings.
-
Davis Schneider TOR LF
Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Making first start at second base
10m agoSchneider will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game versus the Yankees.
Schneider has made three prior appearances at second base this season, but this is his first start there in 2024. It's his ninth start overall, with the first eight coming in left field. Schneider has collected a .752 OPS with two home runs in 37 plate appearances this season.
-
Kenyon Martin Jr. PHI SF
76ers' KJ Martin: Full participant in shootaround
1h agoMartin (toe), who is questionable for Wednesday's Play-In Game against Miami, was a full participant in Philadelphia's morning shootaround, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.
Martin continues to deal with a toe issue that forced him to miss the final three games of the regular season, but his participation in shootaround creates optimism that he'll be able to return as postseason play begins Wednesday. Over his final five appearances during the regular season, Martin averaged 5.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.
-
Joel Embiid PHI C
76ers' Joel Embiid: Goes through shootaround
1h agoEmbiid (knee) participated in Wednesday's morning shootaround, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.
Embiid logged two straight practices coming into the morning shootaround, but he's still carrying a questionable tag for Wednesday's game against Miami. Despite the questionable designation, it would be a big surprise if Embiid was unable to suit up Wednesday.

Kessler Edwards SAC SF
Kings' Kessler Edwards: Logs garbage time minutes in win
9h agoEdwards ended with one rebound in two minutes during Tuesday's 118-94 Play-In Game win over the Warriors.
Edwards closed the game Tuesday, handed a couple of garbage time minutes as the Kings eliminated the Warriors. It's been a disappointing season for Edwards and given his limited role, it is hard to see him featuring too much, even if the Kings advance to the playoffs.
-
Keon Ellis SAC SG
Kings' Keon Ellis: Shines bright in victory
9h agoEllis recorded 15 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals in 39 minutes during Tuesday's 118-94 Play-In Game victory over the Warriors.
Ellis continued his improbable rise Tuesday, helping the Kings to a comfortable victory over the Warriors. He has been a revelation on the defensive end for Sacramento, highlighted once again by his six combined steals and blocks. They will now face the Pelicans in a do-or-die contest with a spot in the playoffs up for grabs.
-
Keegan Murray SAC PF
Kings' Keegan Murray: Leads all scorers in win
10h agoMurray ended with 32 points (10-20 FG, 8-13 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds and two steals over 39 minutes during Tuesday's 118-94 Play-In Game win over the Warriors.
Murray torched the Warriors to the tune of 32 points, including eight three-pointers. The Kings led from start to finish, sending Golden State home in emphatic fashion. They will now head to New Orleans where the Pelicans await, with both teams trying to secure the eighth and final playoff spot.
-
Moses Moody GS SF
Warriors' Moses Moody: Plays well off bench
10h agoMoody contributed 16 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), three rebounds and one assist over 15 minutes during Tuesday's 118-94 Play-In Game loss to Sacramento.
Moody was arguably the best player on the court for Golden State on a night that saw their season come to an end. After an unconvincing start to the season, Moody was able to carve out a meaningful role down the stretch, perhaps an indication that he could be in for an uptick in playing time next year. Whatever direction the coaching staff chooses, it is clear they need to lean into their youth with their veteran core now well beyond their best.
-
Cayden Primeau MON G
Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Busy in Tuesday's shootout loss
2m agoPrimeau turned aside 36 shots in regulation and overtime and two of three shootout attempts in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Red Wings.
The 24-year-old netminder nearly stole a win for the Canadiens in their regular-season finale, but David Perron found a tying goal for the visitors with just five seconds left in the third period, and Patrick Kane was the only successful skater for either team in the shootout. Primeau gave up four goals or more in each of his last four starts this season while going 0-2-2, and he finishes the season with an 8-9-4 record over 23 outings with a 2.99 GAA and .910 save percentage. While he won't be the favorite, he should head into camp next season competing with Sam Montembeault for Montreal's starting job.
-
Alex Nedeljkovic PIT G
Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: First goalie off Wednesday
3m agoNedeljkovic was the first goalie to exit the ice ahead of Wednesday's road clash with the Islanders, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, indicating he'll be guarding the cage.
Nedeljkovic will be making his 13th straight start for the Penguins, which comes as a bit of a surprise considering the Penguins were already eliminated from playoff contention. During that stretch, the 12 games, the 28-year-old backstop is 8-0-3 with a 2.87 GAA but it wasn't enough to force the Penguins into a playoff position.
-
Daniel Sprong DET RW
Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Two points against Habs
6m agoSprong scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Canadiens.
The journeyman winger produced his first multi-point performance since Jan. 4 in a must-win game for the Red Wings, but it wasn't enough to get them into the playoffs. Sprong wraps up his first campaign in Detroit with 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games, falling just short of the career-best numbers he posted last season for Seattle. The 27-year-old will head into the offseason looking to land another bottom-six role in free agency.
-
James Reimer DET G
Red Wings' James Reimer: Gets shootout win Tuesday
11m agoReimer stopped 29 shots in regulation and overtime and all three shootout attempts he faced in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Canadiens.
Detroit needed to win and get some help to sneak into the playoffs, and while Reimer got the job done, Washington also won in Philadelphia to lock up the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. Reimer finishes the regular season having gone 11-8-2 in 25 outings with a 3.11 GAA and .904 save percentage, and the 36-year-old will head into the offseason in search of a backup role with another club as a free agent.
-
Luke Hughes NJ D
Devils' Luke Hughes: Strong stretch run in rookie year
17m agoHughes finished his rookie season with nine goals and 47 points while dressing for all 82 games.
Hughes showed off his puck-moving skills on the power play, notching 25 points on the man advantage. Similar to his brothers Quinn and Jack (shoulder), Luke is highly skilled but undersized. The 184-pound blueliner was bullied in the defensive zone to the tune of a minus-25 rating, but fantasy managers will be willing to overlook those shortcomings from the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, especially if Hughes proves capable of sustaining his point-per-game pace from the last 14 games over a longer stretch.
-
Zach Werenski CLB D
Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Four points in finale
17m agoWerenski produced two goals and two assists in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Hurricanes.
The blueliner had at least one point in each period and helped set up Luca Del Bel Belluz for the 20-year-old's first career goal as well as Johnny Gaudreau's game-winner. Werenski had five multi-point efforts in his final 14 games, and his big performance in the Blue Jackets' finale gave him his sixth career season season with double-digit goals. The 26-year-old wraps up 2023-24 with 11 goals and 57 points in 70 contests.
