The Sprint Cup Series heads to Darlington Raceway this weekend, and the rough surface and narrow racing groove of the egg-shaped oval makes "The Lady in Black" one of the tougher tracks on the schedule for both drivers and fantasy owners.
Adding to the degree of difficulty is the fact that the series visits the track just once a year, and there aren't any other tracks that can be used as comparisons. Not to mention the fact that the Southern 500 is one of the more prestigious events on the schedule, which causes drivers and teams to take more risks than they normally would to try to reach victory lane.
For DFS NASCAR, the laps led and fastest laps run categories will carry plenty of weight this weekend. Darlington is slightly smaller than a typical 1.5-mile oval, and since Sunday's race is a 500-mile event, there are 367 laps on tap. That's a lot of potential bonus points.
History says drivers starting up front are your best bets when it comes to scoring points in the laps led categories. In each of the last five races, the drivers who have won the pole has led at least 60 laps, and they have led more than 120 laps three times. If a big name ends up leading the field to the green, you may want that driver leading your lineup.
Make sure to check back after practice and qualifying for updated DFS NASCAR tips and picks. Qualifying is set for Saturday at 1:45 p.m. ET, and Sunday's Southern 500 is set for 6:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
Kevin Harvick ($10,600)
He is has cracked the top five in his last three starts at Darlington, and he has been particularly impressive here since teaming up with Stewart-Haas Racing. In two starts with the organization, he has led 282 laps, winning the 2014 event in dominant fashion. You can't go wrong building your lineup around Harvick this weekend.
