13h agoBrown agreed to a contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Brown appeared in 60 career games as a special-teams ace during his first four seasons with the Giants, tallying 24 tackles over that span. The 26-year-old played exclusively on special teams in 16 games during the 2023 campaign, so he'll more than likely fulfill a similar role for Miami in 2024.

13h agoThe Browns placed Murray on the retired/reserve list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Murray played for the Raiders, Cardinals, Bills and Titans during his six-year NFL career, appearing in 41 games with 20 starts during his professional tenure. The soon-to-be 31-year-old joined Cleveland's practice squad last November and then signed a futures contract in January, but he never played in any games for the team.

15h agoDobbins (Achilles) is in line to sign a one-contract with the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
A second-round pick of the Ravens in 2020, Dobbins had two of his first four pro seasons cut short due to an ACL tear in 2021 and then a torn left Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 campaign. In his 24 career appearances, he's averaged a robust 5.8 yards on 234 carries, gathered in 27 of 35 targets for 177 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache penned a letter to NFL teams in late March that Dobbins had received medical clearance to participate in football activities, but his new contract will be contingent on a physical. Once the move west to L.A. becomes official, Dobbins will join forces with former teammate Gus Edwards at the top of the RB depth chart, giving him some sway in fantasy working alongside QB Justin Herbert.

18h agoSlayton (thumb) hasn't reported to the Giants' voluntary workouts while he seeks a contract extension, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Slayton, who led the team with 770 receiving yards in 17 games in 2023, has attended the Giants' voluntary offseason program in the past. The 27-year-old wideout is in line to earn $6.2 million in the final year of his contract in 2024, but Slayton is evidently looking to amend those terms. At this stage, Slayton -- who is recovering from an offseason procedure on his right thumb -- is poised to retain a key role in a Giants wideout corps that currently includes Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.

22h agoGeneral manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that the Dolphins will exericse the fifth-year option on Phillips' (Achilles) rookie contract before May's deadline, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
A torn right Achilles' tendon limited Phillips to just eight games last season, but he's reportedly on track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 campaign. He's been one of the Dolphins' more impactful pass rushers over the past three seasons, and the team will be more in need of him than ever with Christian Wilkins having moved on to Las Vegas.

De'Von Achane MIA RBDolphins' De'Von Achane: Bulks up during offseason
22h agoAchane appears to have added muscle to his frame through his workouts earlier this offseason, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
A photo of Achane showing up for OTAs went viral, with some saying he looks much larger than he did during his rookie campaign. It's his second offseason bulking up for football without also considering track and field, though at this point it's unclear how much muscle he's added relative to his weight from the 2023 NFL Combine, where he ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at 188 pounds. Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry and scored a touchdown per game last season, albeit with injuries (six missed games) and Raheem Mostert's presence (209 carries) limiting the rookie to 103 carries and 27 catches in his 11 appearances. The Dolphins still have Mostert under contract -- along with backups Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed (foot) and Chris Brooks -- but they'll presumably prepare Achane with more of the backfield work in his second NFL season.

2m agoPivetta (elbow) continues to play catch but has not advanced to mound work yet, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
Pivetta was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to April 6, but he's not yet ready to help the Red Sox in their current rotation bind. Garrett Whitlock (oblique) joined Pivetta on the IL on Wednesday. It's likely Pivetta would need at least one rehab start before rejoining the club.

6m agoSwanson (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on three hits in a third of an inning.
After Jordan Romano pitched Tuesday, Swanson was brought in to protect a two-run lead in the ninth in his 2024 debut. The right-hander let up a lead-off homer to Giancarlo Stanton followed by two more hits. Swanson would coax a groundout from Oswaldo Cabrera before he was replaced by Tim Mayza, who allowed both inherited runners to score. While it was a rough start to the year for Swanson, it's telling that he was immediately thrust into a high-leverage role. The 30-year-old veteran pitched to a 2.97 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP and 75:12 K:BB across 66.2 innings last season.

Wilyer Abreu BOS RFRed Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Steals base in win
9m agoAbreu started in right field and went 0-for-2 with a walk and stolen base in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Cleveland.
Abreu swiped a bag for the third consecutive game and fourth consecutive start; he ranks second on the team with four stolen bases. He has a history of high-volume attempted steals in the minors, so this flurry is not out of character. Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated earlier in the week that Abreu will be in the lineup against right-handers for the time being, which puts him on the fantasy radar. The outfielder has reached base safely over the last six appearances (five starts), adding five runs scored to his four steals during that stretch.

10m agoMarte went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.
Marte led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, jumping on the first pitch he saw from Jordan Wicks to give the Diamondbacks an early 1-0 lead. He then doubled in his next at-bat to lead off the third and singled home a run in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. The second baseman continues to swing a hot bat and has now recorded at least three hits in back-to-back contests, raising his batting average to .325 in the process. Marte has also homered in two straight games, giving him five long balls in the early campaign.

14m agoGipson-Long is getting multiple medical opinions on his injured right elbow, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
He's been examined by Dr. Tim Griffith in Atlanta and Dr. Keith Meister in Texas and it sounds like he might still be seeking additional opinions. Going through multiple consultations on your pitching elbow certainly is not a good sign, but nothing has been determined yet for Gipson-Long as far as treatment goes. He initially went on the injured list with a groin strain, but clearly the elbow is the bigger concern now.

17m agoBouchard went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored Wednesday against the Phillies.
The Rockies recalled Bouchard on Wednesday to take the roster spot of Kris Bryant (back), and he immediately started in left field and hit sixth. Nolan Jones and Charlie Blackmon both were on the bench against a lefty, but Bouchard is not likely to be a regular in the lineup against right-handed pitchers.

4m agoHerro registered 25 points (9-27 FG, 4-14 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds and nine assists over 41 minutes during Wednesday's 105-104 Play-In Game loss to Philadelphia.
Herro might have needed 27 shots to score 25 shots, but the uptick in usage rate happened since Jimmy Butler suffered a knee injury in the first quarter, which limited him considerably, and Bam Adebayo had a rough matchup with Joel Embiid. Herro has reached the 20-point mark in four of his last six outings, and considering Butler will miss Friday's win-or-go-home matchup against the Bulls, he should be in line for another heavy usage rate vs. Chicago.

19m agoButler is expected to be sidelined for several weeks after sustaining an MCL injury to his right knee Wednesday in the Heat's 105-104 loss to the 76ers in the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Butler sustained the injury in the final minute of the first quarter, and while he remained in the game, he was clearly operating at well below full strength and ultimately finished with 19 points (5-18 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 7-8 FT), five assists, five steals and four rebounds in 40 minutes. The Heat will send Butler in for an MRI on Thursday before providing an updated diagnosis of his injury, but the 34-year-old looks safe to count out for Friday's Play-In Tournament matchup with the Bulls, and quite likely, the first round of the playoffs if Miami should advance. Jaime Jaquez has regularly picked up starts when Butler missed time during the regular season, and the rookie first-rounder, as well as Haywood Highsmith and Caleb Martin, could all benefit from added minutes Friday.

3h agoBogdanovic ended with 21 points (8-18 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game loss to the Bulls.
Bogdanovic jumped in and out of the starting lineup this season but still managed an average of 30.4 minutes per game, a career-best for the veteran. The sharpshooter saw a modest decline in his three-point percentage this season, averaging only 37.4 percent beyond the arc. He ended the season ranked fifth in the league with 651 three-pointers. Bogdanovic is in the midst of a four-year deal with the Hawks and he's expected to remain with the team.

3h agoMurray closed Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game loss to Chicago with 30 points (11-21 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-6 FT), seven rebounds, six assists and two steals across 46 minutes.
Despite dealing with an extended absence from Trae Young, Murray kept the team afloat and squeaked into the Play-In Bracket. Despite the disappointing end, Murray put together the best campaign of his seven-year career, averaging 22.5 points, 6.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals during his second year with the Hawks. While Young will almost certainly be headed elsewhere, Murray is locked into a contract with the Hawks and should continue to be a focal point of the offense next season.

Young may have played his last game in an Atlanta uniform Wednesday night. Young will definitely test the market after a disappointing end to the 2023-24 season, and it seems to be foregone conclusion that he'll be headed elsewhere. The Hawks went 12-11 during Young's most recent absence, proving that the current roster can play break-even ball without him. Young's departure will free up considerable cap space, and with Dejounte Murray locked into a deal, the Hawks may look for a capable off-the-ball guard to complement him.

4h agoDeRozan ended with 22 points (10-19 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds, nine assists, one block and one steal over 44 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game victory over the Hawks.
DeRozan put together another successful season during his third season with the Bulls. Perhaps the biggest feather in DeRozan's cap is his attendance record, as he's played at least 74 games per season over three years in Chicago. The veteran will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, and the Bulls will probably make a competitive offer unless another team presents an irresistible package. For the time being, DeRozan's focus will be on advancing with a win against Miami.

Alex Nedeljkovic PIT GPenguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: Stuck with loss in finale
3m agoNedeljkovic made 27 saves in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders.
Neither team had anything to play for, as the Penguins were already eliminated from the playoffs while the Isles were locked into a first-round series against the Hurricanes, but they still put together a spirited back-and-forth affair. The regulation loss was the first for Nedeljkovic since March 9 -- the 28-year-old took over the starting job for Pittsburgh down the stretch, and over his last 12 outings he went 8-1-2 with a 2.93 GAA and .902 save percentage. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he should be able to do better than the one-year, $1.5 million deal he signed with the Pens last July given his late-season performance.

4m agoCrosby registered a pair of helpers in a 5-4 defeat to the Islanders in the Penguins's season finale Wednesday.
Crosby averaged over a point per game for the 19th consecutive season, including scoring 40-plus goals for the first time since 2016-17. While the world-class center won't be playing in the postseason this year, he should have a busy offseason that includes signing an extension with the club once he officially enters the last season of his current deal July 1.

Bunting had five multi-point efforts over the course of his 21-game stint in Pittsburgh. The winger appears to have thrived playing in a second-line role for the Penguins, a spot he will likely continue to hold down heading into the 2024-25 campaign. The 28-year-old Ontario native fell one tally shy of reaching the 20-goal threshold, a mark he should be capable of getting back to with a full season on Evgeni Malkin's wing.

Imama left Monday's tilt versus the Rangers late in the second period with the injury and missed Tuesday's game in Boston. The 27-year-old winger had 22 hits but failed to pick up a point in six NHL games this season.

Bobrovsky ends the regular season having gone undefeated in regulation over his final four appearances. During that stretch, the veteran backstop went 3-0-1 with a 1.22 GAA and two shutouts. Look for Bobrovsky to see all of the starts once the postseason kicks off versus the Lightning on Sunday.

36m agoLuukkonen gave up three goals on 42 shots (.929 save percentage) in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to Florida.
Luukkonen played in his final game of the season, posting a 27-22-4 record to go with a career-best 2.57 GAA, .910 save percentage and five shutouts in 54 appearances. The netminder will be a restricted free agent in the offseason, so expect him to see a significant pay raise from this season's $837,500 cap hit.
