Scouting The NHL DFS (Oct. 18)

Scout Fantasy continues to expand its Fantasy coverage and now with a PREMIUM membership, you earn access to Cappy's NHL DFS picks all season long!

As this season goes along, games are taking turns that people are not seeing. The Red Wings, for example, had given up ten goals in their first two games of the season. Everyone was poised to watch the Ottawa Senators beat them on Monday night, but all the sudden Detroit scored five goals and only gave up one. That is the NHL. No matter how the numbers play out, you can never have a sure thing. Today, we have a big 12-game slate, with a lot of superstars going. I will try and help you find the right players to use and help you maximize your DFS winnings. I will give you my top three players, my sleeper pick, and then I will list some games to target and the players to focus on those games. Let's drop the puck and score a Gordie Howe hat trick tonight.

Cappy's Cappers

Alexander Ovechkin - Wing - (8200 FD / 8400 DK) - Alex is one of the most recognized stars in the game today. He and his Washington Capitals have the Colorado Avalanche coming to town. Alex has yet to get on the scoresheet in two games this year, and this will be the day he does it. In 12 career games against Colorado, he has nine points (five goals / four assists). Three of his goals came on the man advantage, and his line will be in play tonight without question.

Patrick Kane - Wing - (8400 FD / 8000 DK) - Patrick and his Blackhawks get a home game tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. In nine career games against the Flyers, Patrick has eight points (five goals / three assists), of his eight points, five of them are on the power play. I like the Hawks to jump out to an early lead and play relaxed. Kanes line will be a huge factor in this game

Jonathan Drouin - Wing - (5500 FD / 5500 DK) - Jonathan has put his issues from last year behind him and has turned into a fantastic NHL player. Being on the top line with Stamkos has done him wonders. I see Drouin having his big breakout game against the Florida Panthers in Tampa. His price is perfect for his ability. He could be the best player in the NHL after all the games are finished for the day.

Cappy's Sleeper Play

Viktor Arvidsson - Wing - (3900 FD / 3500 DK) - Viktor is a highly skilled asset on the Nashville Predators. He plays on a line with Mike Ribeiro and Craig Smith, and his line will shine in a home game against the Dallas Stars. Everyone will be on the Preds' big guns tonight, and Viktor will be a low owned value that will score you points. He also plays on Penalty Kill at times. Giving you the opportunity to get a shorthanded goal and blocked shot.

Games To Target

As I did the last large slate, I am going to list some games to target and the players to target in that game. Otherwise, this write-up would be way too long, and you would get lost in it all.

Goalies

As always check to make sure your goalie is starting.

Top Tier

Braden Holtby - Washington - (9700 FD / 8300 DK) - FD seems to want to price goalie way too high this season. Braden is 4-1 lifetime against Colorado and holds a 76-28-11 lifetime at home with 12 shutouts. He is almost a must start, but you have to get very funky with your lineup to fit him in. **If Grubauer starts instead of Holtby, he is a great pivot**

Devan Dubnyk - Minnesota - (8400 FD / 7500 DK) - Devan holds a lifetime record of 6-4-1 vs. the Kings. The Wild should get up quick and keep the action in the King's end of the ice, giving Devan a good night in net.

Corey Crawford - Chicago - (8700 FD / 8200 DK) - Corey has had a shaky start to the season, but the Flyers come into town, and will not pose much firepower towards him. Although Corey has yet to beat the Flyers in his career (0-3), two of those three were on the road, and he is a much better home goalie. He is worth a flier as a very low owned option tonight. In a game that the Hawks should win easily.

Risk vs. Reward Goalies

This will be a list of goalies, that will be risky to play, but their price to their payoff for the win will be well worth it. Plus with all the high powered skaters today, you will need to find some value.

Mike Condon - Pittsburgh - (7700 FD / 7300 DK) - Mike is coming back to Montreal to face the team he played for last season. He was spectacular at times in starting for an injured Carey Price. Mike knows the Habs team and their tendencies. Plus this will be a revenge game for him. The Habs cut him right before season start, and the Pens picked him up.

Chad Johnson - Calgary - (7800 FD / 7600 DK) - In Chad's last start against the Canucks, he faced 31 shots and gave up one goal in the loss. He should hold the Sabres at bay and pitch a great game in net. The Sabres last game was unexpected, but don't expect the same result from this game. Calgary should handle them, and Johnson should get the win.

Favorite Line Stack

Calgary First Line: Gaudreau - Monahan - Versteeg

New York Islanders First Line: Ladd - Tavares - Bailey (San Jose starting a rookie goalie, will be sneaky)

Favorite Two Player Stacks

Stamkos/Drouin

Gaudreau/Versteeg

Drisital/McDavid (Note both are centers. Use on DK and put one as Util)

Backstrom/Burakovsky

Tavares/Bailey

Kane/Panarian
