The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost Ben Roethlisberger to a torn meniscus suffered against the Miami Dolphins Week 6. Big Ben has since undergone a meniscectomy, which removes part of the torn labrum. It’s not nearly as serious as a full repair. The Steelers are calling him week-to-week and have been optimistic he will be able to return Week 9 following the team’s bye. However, conflicting reports say a 4-6 week timetable is much more likely. We’ve seen Roethlisberger fight through serious injuries as recently as last season. Landry Jones will be the starter in his absence … The New York Jets have decided to bench a struggling Ryan Fitzpatrick for Geno Smith. Smith has been named the starter for Week 7 after throwing his 11th interception last week compared to just five touchdowns. The Jets haven’t scored two offensive TDs in a game since Week 2 under Fitzpatrick an accomplishment they managed every week last season … Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has declared Cody Kessler “our starter.” The rookie is expected to retain the job even once Josh McCown is fully healthy. McCown has been ruled out for Week 7. It’s also starting to look like Robert Griffin III is progressing well enough that he will not require surgery.
Brian Hoyer broke his non-throwing arm in the Chicago Bears’ loss on Thursday Night Football. He will miss an extended period, and Matt Barkley is the assumed starter until Jay Cutler is capable of returning from his thumb injury … Colin Kaepernick will remain the San Francisco 49ers starter Week 7 … Tony Romo will not be ready to return Week 8. Dak Prescott will continue to start, and the Dallas Cowboys will avoid a quarterback controversy for at least one more game … Joe Flacco has struggled all week with a shoulder injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. However, he did get one full practice on Friday, which bodes well for availability this week … Carson Palmer has been dealing with a hamstring injury this week and is questionable for Week 7. He did not get any full practices in this week and is believed to be less than 100 percent.
The Green Bay Packers have placed Eddie Lacy on injured reserve due to a severe ankle injury that will require surgery. James Starks is also out for at least a few more weeks after meniscus surgery. There are also reports that Lacy has ballooned back up over 260 pounds after losing weight this offseason. The Packers traded for Knile Davis from the Chiefs this week, promoted Don Jackson from their practice squad and utilized Ty Montgomery heavily in the rushing attack on Thursday night with Randall Cobb also sprinkled in … LeSean McCoy suffered a hamstring injury in practice this week and will be a gametime decision on Sunday. He’s very unlikely to play though and could even miss additional time.

The attitude is awesome." … Dolphins head coach Adam Gase stated that Arian Foster is not yet 100 percent, but they wanted him on the field because of the leadership and veteran presence he brings to the RB corps … Thomas Rawls is still a few weeks away from being cleared according to Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Rookie C.J. Prosise is expected to play this week … Carlos Hyde has been ruled out for Week 7 with a shoulder injury giving way to a committee of Shaun Draughn and Mike Davis … Lorenzo Taliaferro returned to practice this week after being sidelined with a foot injury all season … The Denver Broncos are planning to get Devontae Booker more work this week after head coach Gary Kubiak said he wanted to get him more involved earlier in the week. As a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things, and he's starting to handle himself better," Kubiak said. "I think he deserves some more opportunities to touch the football. And when he's had the opportunity, he's done some good stuff." … Dion Lewis is still not ready to return to New England Patriots practice.
Ka’Deem Carey out-touched Jordan Howard on Thursday Night Football and was more effective. This is becoming a messy situation after Howard looked like he had the job locked up. "It's very difficult when you're constantly playing on it," Gates said. "I'm not at 100 percent. But it’s adequate at what I can try and get done, and what we can accomplish as a team from an offensive standpoint. Just being able to be out there, and hopefully they account for me -- that actually helps the play-calling and gives other guys opportunities to make plays." … Jared Cook is now out of his walking boot. However, he’s still sore and not practicing … The Jacksonville Jaguars want to get Julius Thomas more involved in the offense … Derek Carr wants to get Clive Walford more opportunities. "More reps, more chances, more opportunities kind of a deal," Carr said. "Now that he’s healthy, hopefully we’ll be able to get it to him." … Eric Ebron has been ruled out for Week 7.
