If you’ve been playing the waiver wire heavily because of injuries, it’s going to be even harder to get a win in Week 8 with six teams on byes.
That’s why today we are looking at who are some of the best waiver wire options to bid on. These recommendations are based on a 12 - team league with a budget of $1,000.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - New York Jets - $30
In relief duty for an injured Geno Smith, Fitzpatrick finished with 120 passing yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. You could probably get Fitzpatrick for cheaper than this, but your opponents might also be looking at the fact that the Cleveland Browns have allowed the third-most Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season.
Alex Smith - Kansas City Chiefs - $20
You aren’t going to get a lot of deep passes with Smith, but what I do like about him is that quick dump offs to his running backs can turn into big plays. Spencer Ware converted one of those short passes into a 46-yard touchdown. Smith has a solid matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.
Other quarterbacks to consider: Ryan Tannehill - MIA - $30, Carson Wentz - PHI - $15, Josh McCown - CLE - $1
Chris Thompson - Washington Redskins - $140
Matt Jones remains the starter, but that won’t happen if he fumbles the ball in the end zone again. Thompson recorded 73 rushing yards and posted a 7-40-0 stat line as a receiver in Week 7. He has a tough matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, but his dual - threat abilities make him more valuable than Jones.
Peyton Barber - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - $80
If you picked up Jacquizz Rodgers as a contrarian play to owning Charles Sims, you should be doing the same thing now with Barber. This team is running out of depth at running back. He turned 12 carries into 84 rushing yards and a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. He can’t catch the ball, but he could turn into the official goal-line back.
Other running backs to consider: Zach Zenner - DET - $80, Ka’Deem Carey - CHI - $50, Justin Forsett - DET - $50, Dion Lewis - NE - $35, Knile Davis - GB - $25, Wendell Smallwood - PHI - $20, Don Jackson - GB - $10, Reggie Bush - BUF - $10
Ty Montgomery - GB - $155
Whether you call him a wide receiver or running back, everyone can agree that he’s a playmaker. The 23-year-old caught ten passes for 66 yards in Week 7, and he added 60 rushing yards off of nine carries. Throw everything you got at him.
Anquan Boldin - DET - $120
With Theo Riddick out, Boldin and Golden Tate have been more productive. Boldin has four touchdowns in seven games this season, and he’s scored back-to-back touchdowns in Weeks 6 & 7.
Marqise Lee - JAC - $90
Allen Robinson has caught five passes in the past two games. Lee has 13 catches and has averaged 84 receiving yards from Weeks 6 & 7. He averaged 2.5 Fantasy points per touch in Week 7, and until Robinson and Blake Bortles get on the same page, Lee is worth owning.
Russell Shepard - TB - $60
Without Vincent Jackson, the 26 - year old receiver stepped up and posted a 5-77-1 stat line against the 49ers. He recorded the second - most targets on the team behind Mike Evans, and the Oakland Raiders are allowing the sixth - most Fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season.
Justin Hunter - BUF - $30
Who else does Tyrod Taylor have to target? Sammy Watkins is out, Robert Woods is out, and Marquise Goodwin suffered a concussion. Even though he’s only played in three games this season, he does have two touchdowns.
Other wide receivers to consider: Jamison Crowder - WAS - $125, Cordarrelle Patterson - MIN - $90, Brandon LaFell - CIN - $60, Corey Coleman - CLE - $50, Pierre Garcon - WAS - $25, Adam Thielen - MIN - $20, Eddie Royal - CHI - $15, Chester Rogers - IND - $10, Robby Anderson - NYJ - $5, Kenny Stills – MIA - $10
Jack Doyle - IND - $55
With almost all the receivers and TE Dwayne Allen banged up, Doyle was one of the few healthy players Andrew Luck could target in Week 7. Doyle posted a 9-78-1 stat line against the Tennessee Titans, and he averaged 2.5 Fantasy points per catch. He has a tough matchup against the Chiefs in Week 8, but he should see enough volume to be Fantasy relevant.
Other tight ends to consider: Vernon Davis - WAS - $40, Jacob Tamme - ATL - $30, Charles Clay - BUF - $20, Eric Ebron - DET - $10
