If you were like me and played Devan Dubnyk last night, you loved life. The lower cost players came through in a big way for our DFS needs, and I am hoping for the same today. We have a shorter six-game slate on tap, full of great plays and high priced players. This is one of those slates where you look at everything and just want every player. I am going to help you weed out the players you don't want, and give you some options to consider for DFS lineups. With that said, let's win this one in overtime.
Taylor Hall - Wing - (6600 FD / 6300 DK) - Normally I don't push a New Jersey Devil player as a top play, the biggest reason is they play such a boring brand of hockey. I can not overlook Hall in this game. He is averaging a goal and a assist in his last five games and six shots per game. New Jersey picks their points during the game to bring pressure, and Hall is a puck magnet. I like him to hit his average tonight and score you near 21 points on FD and Six on DK.
Mika Zibanejad - Center - (6000 FD / 6300 DK) - Mika and his Rangers travel to Carolina to take on a fairly bad Hurricanes team. Mika has been a bit silent his last three games (zero goals / two assists), but this is the kind of game that can help him get back on track. Mika is averaging just over four shots per game, and 17 mins of Ice time. It might seem low, but his line scores fast, and they are off the ice. I can see Mika and his linemates factoring in three total goals with one being on the man advantage
Richard Panik - Wing - (4200 FD / 5300 DK) - In the same game as Hall, Panik will shine. The Blackhawks will be on the road and will look to attack the Devils and starting goaltender Keith Kinkaid. Panik is tied for the league lead with eight (six goals / two assists) total points. This is a game where he will pad his stats as Kinkaid will be under siege most of the game, and the Devils have had some issues as of late with the Wing position.
Hampus Lindholm - Defense - (4500 FD / 4400 DK) - Hampus finally ended his holdout by signing a six-year contract extension on Wednesday. The Ducks are one of the top defensive teams in the NHL, and Hampus is an offensive defensive player. He will come out this game and prove that his extension was worth every dollar. He will factor in two of the Ducks goals against a lackluster bluejackets teams. Get him in your lineup as his ownership will be low because most will see his 0.0 FPPG and assume he is not good. Their loss will be your gain.
As always with smaller slates, I will list players from each position you will want to consider in your lineups for today's action.
Connor McDavid (8300 FD / 8400 DK) - Edmonton is on fire right now, and Connor is a big reason why.
Marc Scheifele (7300 FD / 7300 DK) - I think this game will be highest scoring game, I want both sides of the action and the big guns on both sides
Nathan MacKinnon (6600 FD / 6600 DK) - See Mark Scheifele
Victor Rask (5600 FD / 5200 DK) - Rask just scores no matter who he plays
Artem Anisimov (5400 FD / 5200 DK) - Artem is on a five-game scoring streak (four goals / five assists), that will turn into six after this game.
Leon Draisaitl (5400 FD / 5400 DK) - Cheaper exposure to an explosive Edmonton team.
Pavel Zacha (3700 FD / 3800 DK) - Pair with Hall, the two were amazing in their last game with Zacha as Hall's center.
Jordan Eberle (6700 FD / 6900 DK) - Pairing with Mcdavid
Matt Duchene (6900 FD / 6000 DK) - Pair with McKinnon in a projected high-scoring game
Blake Wheeler (7300 FD / 7100 DK) - Pair with Scheifele. Colorado has issues against the win position.
Rick Nash (6600 FD / 6600 DK) - With Krider a game-time decision, Nash will see a lot more ice and add to his total. The Hurricanes can't seem to stop and position, most notably the wing.
Artemi Panarin (6400 FD / 6800 DK) - His price is a bit high considering he is streaky this season, but I love him with Anisimov if their line stays intact.
Jakob Silfverberg (5200 FD / 5200 DK) - Had his breakout game against the Predators on Wednesday with two goals (one power play / one short-handed). He will have similar production in this game and is worth every dollar. Get on him now before his price starts to rise.
Patrik Laine (5000 FD / 6400 DK) - Get him on FD before they realize that his price is way too low. He has five goals in his last four games. I will have him everywhere. Watch his goals from last night; his wrist shot is slick, sweet, and deadly accurate.
Erik Karlsson (7000 FD / 7700 DK) - Calgary can’t stop a runny nose and Karlsson will rack up the points tonight. He is my top defensive play
Ryan McDonagh (5100 FD / 5800 DK) - Ryan is on a five-game scoring streak where he has six assists in those five games. He is averaging two blocked shots per game to boot. He might not score you the goals, but he racks points up in all other categories.
Noah Hanifin (4100 FD / 4100 DK) - Noah is a power play specialist and a sound defenseman. His price will help you fit in higher end players while getting you a solid amount of points.
Damon Severson (4100 FD / 3600 DK) Damon has four points on the season, all assists, and all on the powerplay. He is not afraid to step in front of a shot and block it. Like Hanafin, low cost with high upside.
Dustin Byfuglien (6500 FD / 6500 DK) - Big Buff is the all around player and a near must have in a game that a lot of goals can be scored. He has yet to score a goal this season, and his price will scare people off, but this game will be the game to target, and a few shares of Big Buff in your lineups can't hurt.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
Cam Talbot (8700 FD / 7700 DK) - Cam has been on fire this season. He has won his last four games, and six out of his last seven. In those seven games, he holds a .927 save percentage, while stopping between 31 to 37 shots per game. I see Cam shutting down the Canucks, and putting to rest any questions about his abilities. He is my top go-to goalie for today's slate.
Josh Gibson (8400 FD / 7800 DK) - Josh has yet to lose at home this season, and with Bernier hurt, he is the clear cut number one. The Bluejackets were shut down for the most part last night in San Jose, and I see the Ducks doing the same. Gibson might not face a ton of shots, but he has an excellent shot at a shutout.
Favorite Line Stack: Laine - Scheifele - Wheeler(Winnipeg's top line unit, that will factor into most of the scoring)
Favorite GPP Line Stack: Hoffman - Turis - Stone (Ottawa's top line. Will be under owned and should factor in 75% of scoring and shots on net)
My Favorite Cash Game Lineup on FanDuel
**Note I am looking for upside in more chalk for my cash game. This is a blueprint, and by no ways am I saying this will win your or my money. You can get an idea of my thought process when I build my cash game lineups. Use at your risk, it is your money, and you are the one that hits submit, so keep that in mind if you use this lineup**
C - Scheifele - 7300
C - Zibanejad - 6000
W - Laine - 5000
W - Iginla - 4800
W - Hall - 6600
W - Duchene - 6900
D - Lindholm - 4500
D - McDonagh - 5100
G - Talbot - 8700
There is a lot of games to target today, but I feel that the Jets/Avalanche game will have the highest score overall. With that said, understand they will be the chalkiest game of the night, so look for some contrarian plays elsewhere. The Rangers will follow up as the second chalkiest game, due to their firepower. I will look to Ottawa and Anaheim for some contrarian plays for the slate.
