Fantasy Football Week in Review (10/23-10/29)

Mark Morales-Smith lists all of this week's Fantasy Football news in one easy to read article!

Quarterback

The Chicago Bears have placed Brian Hoyer on injured reserve with a broken forearm. There is a chance he can return after missing eight weeks. However, there is a strong chance his season is over. Fortunately for them, Jay Cutler has been cleared to return this week from a thumb injury he suffered Week 2. Matt Barkley is the primary backup to Cutler and would be the next man up should Cutler suffer a setback … Not long after the New York Jets reported Geno Smith’s knee was “fine” it was announced his season was over due to a torn ACL. The consensus is he’s taken his last snap as a Jet as well. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the team’s Week 8 starter. It’s been reported that Bryce Petty still isn’t fully recovered from a shoulder injury he suffered this summer. Fitzpatrick will be the starter until further notice.

Russell Wilson suffered a pectoral injury last week. He is expected to play on Sunday … Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher insists he’s “staying with Case Keenum.” He went as far to say he’ll make a change at wide receiver before he benches Keenum. "The quarterback's not the reason, by the way, that we lost three games," Fisher said. "I'm staying with Case. He had a couple of tips and things like that today, not necessarily his fault, and then Brian [Quick] didn't get the audible adjustment at the end … Take a look at the tape, see who's responsible for the interceptions … We'll make changes at receiver before I make changes at quarterback." However, Fisher did say although he hasn’t changed his mind, Jared Goff will get some first-team reps during the team’s bye week. "Jared’s going to get some reps, which is a by-product of the bye week," Fisher said. "I don’t feel like Case needs the reps Wednesday and early next week, so Jared will get those reps, which is good … I’ve not changed my mindset whatsoever with respect to Case and Jared. Jared’s going to be our starter, but we’re just going to continue with Case."… Tony Romo has returned to Dallas Cowboys practice. With that said, he has not been cleared to play and has been ruled out for Week 8. The quarterback controversy in Dallas will be delayed at least one more week … According to San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly, Colin Kaepernick will remain the team’s starter.

Cleveland Browns rookie Cody Kessler suffered a concussion Week 7. Much like in Chicago, Josh McCown will return from a Week 2 injury this week and step in as the starter. Barring a mind-changing performance by McCown, Kessler is expected to regain the starting job once healthy … Prior to Thursday night’s embarrassing loss but after Week 7’s embarrassing loss, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley say he “firmly firmly believes” in Blake Bortles and will stick with him as their starter … Ben Roethlisberger plans to return to practice next week. "I'm taking it day to day, but my goal is to practice next week," Roethlisberger said … Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien insists he has not considered benching a struggling Brock Osweiler … Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak plans to give Trevor Siemian more freedom at the line of scrimmage. "We're getting more comfortable with him, letting go up to the line of scrimmage, giving him some either-or type of football plays, you go handle it, so we're growing from that standpoint," said Kubiak. "Trevor did a great job (Monday) night of getting our team into some great runs." … Cam Newton does not plan to stop running because of his concussion. "My edge is running the football inside the tackles," Newton said. "That's going to forever be my edge in this league." … Carson Palmer says he has been working on his deep ball at Arizona Cardinals practice this week. "I missed a couple," Palmer said. "I had J.J. [Nelson] on a couple the other night. I've taken shots that I shouldn't have in certain situations. I think one thing I need to do is be a little bit more picky: when to take them, when not to take them."

Running Backs

Miami Dolphins veteran Arian Foster shockingly announced his retirement this week effective immediately. Head coach Adam Gase also stated that the coaching staff needs to monitor Jay Ajayi’s workload following his second consecutive 200-yard game. "When you run the style that he's running right now," Gase said, "over time that's going to take a little bit of a toll, so we just have to make sure we monitor [him] throughout the game." … C.J Anderson has been placed on injured reserve with a torn meniscus, which did require surgery. There is a chance he could be ready for the NFL playoffs. Devontae Booker is looking at a feature-back role in Denver … Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Jamaal Charles knee was acting up last week and he wasn’t healthy enough to play. Charles has already been ruled out for Week 8 as well … Thomas Rawls is still expected to miss about two more weeks … The Washington Redskins have ruled out Matt Jones for Week 8 with a knee injury. Robert Kelley is expected to fill his role.

Jerick McKinnon is expected to be sidelined for the Minnesota Vikings after spending most of the week in a walking boot. While he is unlikely to play, there is a chance he suits up … Jeremy Langford returned to Bears practice this week. The team also cut Joique Bell and signed David Cobb … After inexplicably playing through a hamstring injury last week, LeSean McCoy suffered a setback and had been ruled out for this week … Tevin Coleman will sit out the Atlanta Falcons’ Week 8 matchup with a hamstring injury. The team signed Stevan Ridley … San Diego Chargers RBs coach Ollie Wilson says the team wants to reduce Melvin Gordon’s touches. "We’ve got to do that for no other reason than down the road when you look at his carries, you say ‘Hey maybe that’s going to be too much,’" Wilson said … Dion Lewis returned to New England Patriots practice this week … Doug Martin has been ruled out again this week … Both Theo Riddick and Dwayne Washington are expected to return for the Detroit Lions this week … Lamar Miller is shaping up to be a game-time decision.

Wide Receivers

Dez Bryant is expected back this week after missing his past three games … The Indianapolis Colts will likely get Donte Moncrief back on Sunday … Jaron Brown went down Week 7 with a torn ACL. Michael Floyd and John Brown are both questionable this week. Brown will likely play; Floyd is more questionable … Odell Beckham’s hip was “pretty sore” following last week’s game in London … Rumors swirled this week that the 49ers were shopping Torrey Smith and the Philadelphia Eagles were the favorite to acquire him. The 49ers have since denied that they are shopping him at all … Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is beginning to get impatient with Breshad Perriman. "I told him, 'I just am impatient. You have all this talent, and there is a lot to learn, but I just want to speed the curve up,'" Harbaugh said. "Obviously, he said that he could not agree more. We just have to keep chasing it. It is going to happen, and let's try to make it happen sooner rather than later." … Sammy Watkins has shed his walking boot this week. Marquise Goodwin will miss this week’s game with a concussion … Cordarrelle Patterson is in the league’s concussion protocol and could miss the Minnesota Vikings’ Monday night game … Randall Cobb has been limited all week. While he’s expected to play the situation is worth monitoring.

Tight Ends

Jordan Reed traveled to London with the Redskins with intent to play. He does have to be cleared by an independent neurologist still … Hunter Henry expects to play this week after suffering a concussion last week … Eric Ebron is expected to return this week … Tyler Eifert is expected to see his workload ramped up this week … The Colts have ruled out Dwayne Allen … Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been listed as doubtful by the Jets.
