Here we go with a fun weekend slate of some NHL action. Last night was a profitable night for a lot of members, and I am hoping tonight is the same. We have an attractive nine-game slate this evening with a lot of rivalry style games going on. This should be an entertaining evening with a lot of angry teams fighting for points. The Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Philadelphia for one of the NHL favorite rivalry games. With that said, let's have a bench clearing brawl and win some money.
Eric Staal - Center - ($5200 FD / $5100 DK) - Staal and his Minnesota Wild get a home game against a Dallas Stars team that seems lost in every aspect of the game right now. Staal has scored in five of his last seven contests getting three goals and three assists in that time. In 14 career games against the Stars, Staal has 15 (nine goals / six assists) with four of the points coming the way of the power play. I will have a good amount of Staal and his second line in some cash and GPP contests tonight.
Alex Galchenyuk - Center - ($5700 FD / $6300 DK) - Galchenyuk and his Canadians host a Maple Leafs team that is exciting to watch. The Canadians have yet to lose in regulation this season and have a +16 goal differential. Galchenyuk has stepped up to lead the Habs, and I see him continuing his dominance tonight against a Maple Leafs team that is lackluster on the Defensive side of the puck. Look for at least one goal and two assists, with the goal coming on the power play.
Alex Ovechkin - Wing - ($8400 FD / $8400 DK) - Ovechkin is being Ovechkin and has caught fire as of late. He is currently on a four-game scoring streak (four goals / one assists) in the four games. The Caps travel to Vancouver to play a Canucks team that just got shutout by the Oilers last night. I will have a lot of exposure to Ovies line in both Cash and GPP games, as I feel that the Caps will score six goals tonight and Alex will factor into three of them.
Mikko Rantanen - Wing - ($3600 FD / $3900 DK) - Rantanen is a young 20-year-old winger that was just recalled by the Avs this past Monday. He was able to get 18 mins of time on ice, and in those 18 min he manages two shots and two blocked shots. He has been skating on the Avs top line in practice, and if he starts on that line, he will be a steal for the night. The Avs are trying to get him kick started and playing him on the top line will do that. I feel that Mikko will score a goal and get an assist tonight, while also logging another 18 min of ice time.
Games to target
I am going to point out a few games to target to build your lineups around. As always with nine games on the slate, you can find value in a lot of games, I am going to show you a few games to find your core players.
Toronto (+175) vs. Montreal (-195)
Max Pacioretty - Wing - ($7100 FD / $7000 DK) - Pair with Galchenyuk
Brenden Gallagher - Wing - ($6200 FD / 6800 DK) - First line wing pair with Pacioretty and Galchenyuk
Alexander Radulov - Wing - ($5500 FD / $5300 DK)
Tomas Plekanec - Center - ($5700 FD / $5000 DK)
David Desharnais - Center - ($4100 FD / $3700 DK)
Shea Weber - Defense - ($6100 FD / $6700 DK) - Scored in six out of eight games this season. Top Line Defense, Top Line Power Play
Auston Matthews - Center - ($6400 FD / $7100 DK) - Price came down on both sites. Sneaky play
Mitch Marner - Wing - ($4600 FD / $4600 DK) - Pair with Matthews. Five points all assists in last five games.
William Nylander - Wing - ($5300 FD / $5500 DK)
Nikita Zaitsev - Defense - ($3600 FD / $3500 DK)
Dallas (+131) vs. Minnesota (-145)
Charlie Coyle - Wing - ($4900 FD / $4900 DK) - Pair with Staal
Mikko Koivu - Center - ($5200 FD / $4500 DK)
Zach Parise - Wing - ($6600 FD / $6600 DK) - Pair with Koivu
Nino Niederreiter - Wing - ($4400 FD / $4200 DK) - Pair with Coyle and Staal
Joel Eriksson Ek - Center - ($3400 FD / $2500 DK) - Cheap exposure to a young talent. Five points (two goals / three assists) in four games.
Ryan Suter - Defense - ($5800 FD / $5500 DK) - Top line defense, top power play.
**I am not looking at anyone from Dallas in this game, as I think they get fully shut down.**
Washington (-170) vs. Vancouver (+153)
Nicklas Backstrom - Center - ($6400 FD / $5900 DK) - Pair with Ovie
Evgeny Kuznetsov - Center - ($6300 FD / $6200 DK)
Marcus Johansson - Wing - ($4700 FD / $4300 DK)
Justin Williams - Wing - ($4600 FD / $4200 DK)
Andre Burakovsky - Wing - ($4500 FD / $4600 DK)
John Carlson - Defense - ($6100 FD / $5900 DK) - Top Defense and Top Power Play unit
Brandon Sutter - Center - ($4400 FD / $4400 DK)
Jannik Hansen - Wing - ($4500 FD / $4000 DK) - Pair with Sutter
Alexander Edler - Defense - ($4600 FD / $4600 DK)
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
Carey Price ($9700 FD / $8500 DK) - Price is 4-0-0 with a 1.51 goals against average and a .947 save percentage on the season. There is a reason he is so high priced on Fanduel; it is because he is the best in the game right now. He will see a lot of shots from the Maple Leafs and will have to be sharp. He will be my go-to cash game play.
Jimmy Howard ($8500 FD / $7800 DK) - Jimmy is 2-0-0 on the season with a razor thin 0.50 goals against average and a .984 save percentage. The Red Wings are at home against the Bruins, and Howard will have to be on the top of his game. Expect a lot of shots to come his way, and him to have a stellar performance.
Martin Jones ($8600 FD / $7900 DK) - Jones has put together two solid back to back starts after starting the season off poorly. In his last two, he has stopped 43 of 45 shots while only giving up one goal in each contest. He gets a Nashville Predators team that has lost five out of its last six and are 0-2 on their California road trip. The downside is that Jones has never beat the Predators in his career and will look for that first win in this game. He is more a GPP play due to his history against the Predators.
High Risk - High Reward GPP ONLY Play
Louis Domingue ($7400 FD / $6900 DK) - The reason this is a risky play is due to the expected lopsided event that Vegas has this game slated to be. The thing with Domingue is that when he got his first win under his belt, it boosted his confidence. He was stellar for the most part last season, and the Coyotes finally get a home game, after playing their last six on the road. Louis can totally feed off the energy in the arena and completely take this game. He is very risky but can win this game. Use him as a very contrarian GPP play as I will have him in a few MME GPP games.
Favorite Line Stack: Niederreiter - Staal - Coyle(Minnesota second line)
Favorite GPP Line Stack: Nyquist - Nielsen - Larkin (Detroit's top line, playing at home)
