Good afternoon to the #ScoutArmy. I hope you had a great DFS night last night, and you played my Super Sleeper pick, as he got you a goal and was under 3% owned. Today the NHL has given us a very short three-game slate, with some fairly evenly matched teams. I will try to navigate the waters and help you pick a winning lineup. We all wake up this morning with a new Presidential Elect and can now move back to DFS and not worry about the election anymore. Let’s make DFS great again and pick some winners tonight.
Jonathan Toews - Center - ($6700 FD / $6100 DK) - On a night where everyone will be on the Blackhawks second line, I am pushing their top line center in Toews. The Blackhawks head to St. Louis to take on a Blues team that is struggling to find an identity. Toews has scored ten (four goals / six assists) in 13 games this season and had a goal and two assists in his last game. He has scored in five of his last six contests, and I can see his line opening it up tonight and taking the Blues to town. I will have a lot of exposure to him, as I think the Blues target the Hawks second line and forget about their top line.
Rickard Rakell - Center (FD) -Wing (DK) - ($5400 FD / $6300 DK) - Notice off-hand he is listed in different positions on each site. Currently, he is the Ducks top line center, but that could change today after morning skates, so keep an eye on that. Since his return four games ago, Rakell has done nothing but score points. He has three goals and three assists in four games. He is getting close to four shots a game and also plays on the top power-play unit. I love Rakell tonight on both sites, as I think the Ducks come out hard and try to take command of the game in Columbus against a Blue Jackets team that has too many questions on Defense. Use him in both Cash and GPP and be happy.
Kyle Turris - Center - ($5100 FD / $5500 DK) - Turris and his Senators head into Buffalo tonight, in a game that is a bit hard to figure out. I fully see Ottawa taking an early lead and not looking back. Turris and his line will be the center of that action. He leads the team with six goals this season, and I have a feeling he gets two more tonight. Buffalo will put up a fight, but the skill players of Ottawa will overcome and score in bunches. I will have a lot of exposure to Turris, do to his ability to score on both the even strength and power play side of the game.
Cappy's Super Sleeper
Zemgus Girgensons - Center (FD) Wing (DK) - ($4600 FD / $3700 DK) - Girgensons is having a rather bad season for a former first-round draft pick. I realize I am on the Senators tonight, but the Sabers will score a goal, or two, and Girgensons line will be the one to do it. He only has one goal and three assists this season, but a lot of that is due to him being on the third line. It is very possible, with all the injuries Buffalo is facing, he could move up to the second line. I will use him in a few lineups, even if it is as a stand alone. He will certainly be a super sleeper as he will go low owned tonight.
Games To Target
This is a short slate, so I will list each team playing tonight and which line(s) to target on each team. Everything is going to be chalky, and you can always check dailyfaceoff.com to see the line combinations in the afternoon. With players coming back from Injury lines will shuffle from what they are right now.
Chicago - You will want to target both of the Blackhawks top two lines in this game. They are the best lines they have, and specifically target the Wing position as the Blue Jackets have given up the most goals (18) in the NHL to the wing position. Panik, Panarian, Kane are all great plays on the wing position.
St. Louis - It is hard to decide who I like on the St. Louis side of the puck, as they are still lost and confused. Tarassenko is always in play as he is the Blues best weapon. I would mainly just target his line and maybe a flier on either Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk on defense.
Ottawa - I will be targeting both of the Senators top two line in this game. Of course, you will want to try and figure out a way to work in Karlsson into your lineup at defense.
Buffalo - I am scared of this team, as they can either put up zero goals, two goals or explode for five. I might target whichever line my super sleeper is, but I think the Senators are too much to handle for the Sabers and am not interested in anyone. On a short slate, though, it can’t hurt to hedge a lineup for Buffalo.
Anaheim - It is possible the Getzlaf is back tonight, which will jumble the lines a bit. Keep an eye out for that, as it is possible Rakell moves to the left wing position on the top line instead of the top line center. I will target both their top lines and may even mix and match them in a few lineup constructions. Cam Fowler is a cheaper defensive alternative and can save you a bit of cap space with a high upside.
Columbus - The Blue Jackets; the team you love to hate and causes me to get more grays than my four kids. I was fighting myself for the sleeper pick as I also liked Bjorkstrand as well. He would be worth a look as would be his line. The Jackets top line has produced a bit, and I think this will be a 5-2 style game. Just got to figure out where the Jackets two goals come from.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
To be honest, picking a goalie tonight will be tough, as I am not sure if any of the games will be tight low scoring affairs. With that said, these are the two I will consider, but as it says above, check starting goalies before lineups lock to be safe.
Corey Crawford - ($9500 FD / $8200 DK) - Over his last six games, Crawford has five wins and one loss in overtimes. In that span, he has a 1.15 goals against average and a .965 save percentage. He has won his last five in a row while posting two shutouts in that time. He is the hottest goalie in the NHL right now, and I am banking on that tonight. Corey is known to give up some very junior varsity style goals, but then he can make big save after big save, causing a confidence boost for his team. He will be the chalk tonight in my opinion.
Mike Condon - ($7700 FD / $7600 DK) - With Anderson playing last night, one can only assume that Condon will get the start tonight. He won his start of the season last week, with a 27 save shutout. He, like Crawford, will be chalk in such a short slate; more-so on FanDuel where his price is too juicy to overlook. I do not think he will pitch another shutout, but he should see over 30 shots tonight while giving up no more than two goals, and getting the win.
