Good afternoon to all my friends, fans, and followers. I had a rather bad night last night. It seems that Detroit and New Jersey decided that defense and goaltending were overrated and went on to score a combined nine goals. They won people a lot of money if you had them. Today is a new day and a new slate of games. The NHL is giving us a nice nine game slate to look at. There will be a few games I am eyeing for tonight's action, and I hope my suggestions can help you build your bankroll. Did you see the Pens new Stadium Series Jersey? I want one! Let drop the gloves, and go all out on this slate.
Alexander Wennberg - Center - ($5700 FD / $5700 DK) - You may be thinking to yourself, Wait… There are so many top players today, and Cappy is going Wennberg as his top play. That is correct and here is why. Wennberg has 19 points (four goals / 15 assists) in 19 games thus far this season. He is not a big shooter, averaging just over one shot per game, but he is an incredible passer, and when he is shooting he is scoring. He WILL have three assists tonight and one goal, with two blocked shots. In the last ten games, he and his linemates have scored nine goals, and I see that going higher today. I love Wennberg and his line in GPP play this evening, as they are one of the lowest cost top lines on the slate.
Jeff Carter - Center - ($7200 FD / $6800 DK) - Welcome to the first time this season I am targeting any player from the Kings not named Quick. Carter has heated up and has four goals and two assists in his last four games. Carter is not afraid to rush the net and score from the tough areas of the ice. He has thrived on the top line and is one of the most accurate shooters in the NHL. The Kings have won three of their last four and should win this home game this evening. I am all over them in GPP and also Carter and one of his linemates in Cash Games.
Phil Kessel - Wing - ($7400 FD / $6200 DK) - I will admit, I was worried when Kessel was moved onto Malkin's line, as this experiment did not work well last year. After a tough start at it, he and Malkin are starting to Gel, and turn into a line to be reckoned with. Kessel has six goals and 15 assists this season and is currently on a three-game scoring streak. In those three games, he has two goals and four assists and 12 shots on net. I can see him and Geno taking control of this game and scoring three between the two of them. I feel this will be a low scoring game as it is, so I will target Kessel and Geno a lock it in on both Cash and GPP.
Cappy's Super Sleeper
Jake Guentzel - Wing - ($4100 FD / $2800 DK) - Guentzel is getting his chance with Kunitz and Hornqvist currently hurt. He has been paired with Malkin and Kessel and has shined. He has speed, skills, and grit. He has only been in the NHL for three total games and has two goals and one assist in those three games. He is young and ambitious and trying to carve out a permanent role on the Pens team. I can see him getting a goal and assisting on another in what should be another good game for him and his linemates. Use him in GPP and be happy with the savings.
Games To Target
I will be listing the teams you want to target in this slate with a little info on each team.
Colorado Avalanche - The Avs get a home game against the Canucks, and should handle them easily. I love their top two lines in GPP play and will have exposure to Beauchemin on defense as he is a shot block monster.
Toronto Maple Leafs - People will be worried about this team, as they play the Caps and Holtby tonight. I am not worried. The Leafs have been a fun team to watch, full of youth and skill. Their top two lines are in play, and I like their 3rd line for a sneaky GPP play. Zaitsev and Reilly are great options on Defense.
Montreal Canadians - I was all over Montreal once I saw this game on the slate. The Red Wings are in trouble, as they lost Jimmy Howard to a possible groin injury, and Mrazek is trash. I will be using Montreal in a lot of my cash game lineups as well their top two lines in my GPP lineups. Weber is always in play on Defense as is Emlin and Markov.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
I will list a few goalies and if you want them in cash, gpp, or both.
Matt Murray - Cash/GPP
Calvin Pickard - GPP
Carey Price - Cash (GPP maybe, if you want to go contrarian in your GPP lineups)
Martin Jones - Cash/GPP
Darcy Kuemper - GPP
