Waiver Wire Wednesday

Considering this is Week 16, and you are most likely playing in your championship game I will give you two players at each position who I would take a look at if they are available on your league’s waiver wire.

Matt Barkley — I can’t say enough about how impressed I have been with Barkley. Instead of taking sacks and being a general disaster, Barkley has shown that he can handle the team and looks like he has earned a spot in the Bears plans for 2017 and beyond as a starter or top backup. He’s got a great matchup this week against the Redskins who let Cam Newton go wild on Monday. If you need a QB in your championship, Barkley just might be your guy. I think he throws for 300+ yards once again.

Tom Savage — Texans HC Bill O’Brien finally plugged the plug on Brock Osweiler and put Tom Savage into the lineup as his QB and the results showed immediately. On paper, it looks like the Texans have a difficult matchup with the Bengals, but I believe that the Bengals have shut it down for the season mentally and emotionally and are ripe for getting drubbed by the Texans. With Lamar Miller not 100% healthy, look for Savage to get close to 250 yards and 2 TDs.

Running Backs

Ty Montgomery — He is legitimately the RB1 for the Packers right now and looks the part. I expect him to have way more receptions out of the backfield too this week against the Vikings, so he will be a great start in any format.

Derrick Henry — Don’t look now, but it is Henry, and not Murray, who seems to be getting the goal line carries for the Titans. I have been waiting all year for Henry to emerge and I think last week's two-TD performance will keep him in the lineup for Week 16. If you are in a TD only league and need a RB, he might be your guy.

Wide Receivers

Malcolm Mitchell — Last week was not a great one for Mitchell against the mighty Broncos defense, but I love him think week against the pathetic Jets. The Patriots are going to put up about 40 points this week, and Mitchell seems to have replaced Gronk as Brady’s go-to target in the red zone. It wouldn’t surprise me if he scored two TDs this week.

Robby Anderson — People tend to overrate the connection a QB has with his WR, but in the case of Bryce Petty and Robby Anderson, that connection is valid. Petty seems to look for Anderson on every pass pattern, and Anderson has 29 targets over the last three weeks!  That is enough for me to tell you that he is a great waiver wire addition for Week 16.

Tight Ends

Dion Sims — Sims is turning out to be the red zone threat the Dolphins were hoping Jordan Cameron would be. Sims is tall, strong, deceptively fast, and has decent hands. Moreover, it seems like he has developed a rapport with new starting QB, Matt Moore. I think Sims finds the endzone this week.

Jared Cook — I would hedge my bet on Cook mainly due to his inconsistency, but with Randall Cobb still not fully healthy and Davante Adams showing the bad hands that plagued him back in 2015, Cook might just be Aaron Rodgers’ second most trusted target this week.

San Diego — They are playing Cleveland. Enough said.

Tennessee — They are playing against Blake Bortles. Enough said.
