Prescription Notes From Week 16
Week 17 is a disaster for anyone still playing for a Fantasy Championship. If you play in a league that goes for all 17 weeks, I IMPLORE you to please contact your commissioner and change your rules for next year. More than half the teams have nothing to play for, and there are other teams who choose to bench their starters for fear of injury with playoffs approaching. The bottom line is that Week 17 is a mess and not worth the aggravation. Instead, let me suggest a winner take all pot for Week 17. That is another way to feel like you get 17 weeks of Fantasy Football without worrying about winning or losing a league title because Lamar Miller sits out or if Zeke Elliott plays just the first half of football.
-- Jets put QB Bryce Petty on injured reserve. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting QB again and could be interesting as there is a narrative going on as he had his best years in Buffalo.
-- Texans HC Bill O’Brien is being cagey with the press about Lamar Miller’s status for this week, but let me guarantee you that Miller sits in Week 17. Fire up Alfred Blue if you need a RB this week. You’re My Boy, Blue!
-- It looks like both Kenneth Farrow and Melvin Gordon will miss this week’s game for the Chargers. Ronnie Hillman will get the bulk of the carries, but I do believe that the team will do whatever it can to make sure that Antonio Gates catches a TD.
-- With the Broncos now out of it for this season, GM John Elway will want to take another look at QB Paxton Lynch against the Raiders. The Broncos will have some major decisions to make this off-season—primarily deciding whether or not to get Tony Romo to come to town as their QB. If Lynch can show anything this week, it might give incentive to Elway not to make a QB change.
-- I don’t usually buy into “coach speak," but when Ravens HC John Harbaugh says that this week will be a big week for Steve Smith Sr. that tells me the team will try to do whatever it can to get him the football in what could be his last game in the NFL. I will have him on a few rosters in DFS.
-- Watch closely to see what teams like the Giants, Steelers, and Dolphins are going to do with their starters this week. There is a pretty good chance that players like Le’Veon Bell and Odell Beckham Jr. play one quarter (or less) in this meaningless week. If this happens, bump up their opponents (Browns and Redskins) as they might have better weeks than we might have originally thought.
