We ended January with a bang and a lot of cash. Patches got us a hat trick, and Kopitar gave us a goal and two assists. We start February with a small slate which means Chalk City. Stick to small entry contests today. With it being a small slate, the large bankroll players will have no problems filling up the contests.
Mr. Pucks Profound Three
I was asked if these are three players people should use. What I suggest is building around at least one of my three choices. Let us take a look at my top three.
Alex Ovechkin (Was) - Wing- ($9000 FD / $8400 DK)
Ovie ended January with a goal and four shots on net. With three goals and three assists in his last five games, Alex is hitting second half stride. I think he will get us another goal on the powerplay and five shots tonight. He could very well sneak in an assist as well.
Charlie Coyle (Min) -Wing- ($5600 FD /$5800 DK)
Coyle has gone 11 games without netting a goal, and this will help keep his ownership a bit low. I am not worried about his recent slump, as he will break out of it with ease. Tonight he gets back on the score sheet with that all elusive goal, couple that with an assist and three shots and we have a hell of a night.
Johnny Gaudreau (Cgy) -Wing- ($7300 FD / $6100 DK)
If you are a believer in second half surges, then target Johnny Hockey. He has a tough test against the NHL's 3rd best defense. He will do all he can to help his team try and win. He is just under a point per game player and just broke an 11 game scoreless streak. Fire up Johnny Hockey as his ownership should be low.
Mr. Pucks Sleeper play of the night
Matt Nieto (Col) - Wing - ($3400 FD / $2900 DK)
What stands out for me with Nieto is that he plays on the Avs second line with Landeskog and Duchene. This kid can fire the puck at the net with reckless abandonment. He will be low owned and will pay off. I can see four shots on net with a possible goal, and one assist. Great cap saver with big upside.
Teams To Target
A few teams to target and build your lineups around.
LA Kings - Love the top two lines in this game. The third line will be sneaky. Muzzin and Forbort on defense.
Washington Capitals - Top line will be chalky, but worth it. Consider Burakovsky line for sneaky gpp. Orlov or Carlsson on defense.
Boston Bruins - Bergeron-Marchand-Pasternak will be the play here. The second line is also viable. Krug or Carlo on defense.
Minnesota Wild - Top line and second line should be good tonight. Suter, Dumba, Spurgeon on defense.
Other teams to consider - Calgary 1st line, Colorado 1st and 2nd lines.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
I will list a few goalies and if you want them in cash, gpp, or both.
Dubnyk - Cash/GPP (chalk)
Holtby - Cash/GPP
Zatkoff - GPP Flier
Johnson - Risky GPP vs. a hot Wild team.
