It is finally Friday! My favorite day of the week by far. It so happens that on my favorite day, my favorite team is playing a hockey game. The NHL is giving us a small five-game slate, but that will not deter me one bit. I am going to dig deep and help you guys and gals, build a winning DFS lineup. Time to drop the puck on this Friday night and move our little guy to the right of the pay line.
Mr. Pucks Profound Three
Sebastian Aho (Car) - Wing- ($5800 FD / $4500 DK)
Aho has been on fire as of late. He just posted a Hat Trick and an assist in his last game against the Flyers and had four goals and two assists in his last five played. He gets to face a Oilers team in the second half of a road back to back. The Oilers as a team, are 4th worst in the NHL when it comes to stopping the wing position. Aho will be somewhat chalky, but don't worry about it too much. I do not see another performance like his last game, but a goal and an assist with four shots on net is a safe bet. Ride this hot hand till he sizzles out.
John Tavares (NYI) - Center - ($8300 FD / $7200 DK)
The Tavares train is full steam ahead and rushing down the tracks. He is currently on a five-game point scoring streak (two goals / eight assists) and has points in eight of his last ten overall. Tavares and his Islander teammates head into Detroit to take on a bad Red Wings team. In 13 career games against the Red Wings, he has four goals and 12 assists. The upside to this is that the Red Wings are near dead last in the NHL in defensive ratings. I can see Tavares continuing his current hot streak with two goals and five shots on net. I am hoping one of these goals come on the power play.
Sean Monahan (Cgy) - Center - ($7000 FD / $5400 DK)
Monahan has been lighting the lamp as of late and is not stopping. With nine goals and two assists in his last ten games, he shows no signs of slowing down. His highest goal total in his career was 31 back in the 2014-2015 season. He needs to average at least one goal in every 2.45 games to eclipse that total by season's end. He and his Flames head into New Jersey to take on a mediocre Devils team. The Devils are losers of their last six home games and are starting to falter really. I don't see them being able to contain Monahan tonight. Great play in both Cash and GPP, especially on Draftkings where his price is too low.
Mr. Pucks’ Sleeper play of the night
Carter Rowney (Pit) - Wing - ($3000 FD / $2800 DK)
Carter who? Due to the recent injury bug that has hit the Penguins, (Malkin and Sheary both out), Rowney is the next man up to fill in. In 26 games this season in Wilkes-Barre, he has ten goals and 11 assists. He is currently the third line center with Bryan Rust and Carl Hagelin as his wings. The Pens have faith in his gameplay, and so do I. I feel he gets a goal with three shots on net. It is very possible, based on his price; that he could hit 6x value tonight.
Teams To Target
A few teams to target and build your lineups around.
Carolina Hurricanes - Love the Aho line as mentioned above, but keep an eye out as currently, it is Aho-Staal-Lindholm, that might change after the morning skate. Also, I like the line of Skinner-Ryan-Stempniak. I will have exposure to both Faulk and Pesce (more on Pesce later) on defense.
New York Islanders - The top line of Lee-Tavares-Bailey will be popular, as will the second line of Beauvillier-Nelson-Strome. Consider any of their defensive players as they all have upside.
Calgary Flames - Top line of Gaudreau-Monahan-Brower will be a nice full line stack. Second and third lines are in play as well. Giordano and Hamilton on defense.
Pittsburgh Penguins - The new look Crosby line of Cullen-Crosby-Hornqvist could pay off, but I'm targeting both the second line and third lines in this game. Schultz and Cole on defense.
Columbus Blue Jackets - Top two lines are in play as I think this will be a high scoring game. Werenski on defense as he is a power play beast.
Also Consider - Anaheim's top two lines, New Jersey's top line, and Detroit's top line.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
I will list a few goalies that I like tonight, and if you want to play them in cash, gpp, or both.
Gibson - Cash/GPP
Greiss - Cash/GPP
Ward - GPP
Murray - Risky GPP with CBJ offense.
Johnson - Cash/GPP if he starts
Elliott - GPP if he starts.
Mr Pucks Little Tidbit
Even though I like Carolina to win, and Ward in net; consider this bit.
In the last ten games, the defensive pairing of Slavin/Pesce has allowed opponents to score 11 goals against them. Currently listed as the team's second defensive pairing, this puts the Oilers second line of Eberle-Nugent-Hopkins-Pouliot in play. Why them? They have the best opportunity to be on the ice when Slavin/Pesce are also on the ice.
