Well NFL is finally over, and we can now focus on my favorite sport of hockey. The NHL is treating us with a nice big 11 game slate. What does this mean for you? Lower than normal pay lines in cash and gpp. With such a huge amount of players to choose from, we shouldn't have to worry too much about chalk tonight. There is a ton of money to be won in NHL DFS, so time we win some of it.
Make sure you tune in tonight at 8 pm on XM Ch 87 and hear the winners of this year's Fantasy Sports Writers Association Awards. I am up for Hockey Writer Of The Year. Come and cheer me on.
Mr. Pucks Profound Three
I was asked if these are three players people should use. What I suggest is, building around at least one of my three choices. Let us take a look at my top three.
Max Pacioretty (Mon) - Wing- ($7500 FD / $7100 DK)
Pacioretty is slowly becoming the Canadians MVP this season and my personal DFS MVP. Patches has four goals and an assist in his last five games and is averaging two shots per game in that span. He faces an Avalanche team that he has scored 15 points (six goals / nine assists) against in 11 career games. History tends to tell us he should shine tonight. He will be one of my most owned players tonight.
Chris Kreider (NYR) -Wing- ($6400 FD /$6300 DK)
Kreider is currently on a three-game goal scoring streak while also averaging three shots in each of those games. Although I am a big Gibson (G/Ana) fan, tonight Kreider will own him. The Ducks are not a great road team (11 wins in 28 games), and the Rangers will swarm them. Get in on Kreider and his linemates tonight. Very good GPP play as people will be on Gibson in net for the Ducks.
Mikael Granlund (Min) -Wing- ($7300 FD / $6800 DK)
Don't be surprised if his ownership is high tonight. Why wouldn't it be, though? He just had a hat-trick in his last game and is on a 12 game point streak. Yeah, you read that right, an unexpected 12 game streak. In those 12 games, Granlund has five goals and 12 assists. Before this outbreak, he had ten goals and 21 assists all year. I am going to board the Granlund express tonight and watch him manhandle the Jets. I can see a goal and an assist with four shots on net. Nice little Cash gameplay.
Mr. Pucks Sleeper Play
Alex Chiasson (CGY) - Wing - ($3100 FD / $3200 DK)
It is tough for me, as a fan, to go against my favorite team. In DFS though, Loyalty doesn't pay off, winning lineups do. The Pens are a tough team to beat at home (22 wins in 27 home games), but not to score against (2.86 goals per game allowed). Chiasson is a sneaky player that finds ways to get on the score sheet. I don't see him having a problem scoring against the NHL's 6th worst defense against the wing position.
Teams To Target
A few teams to target and build your lineups around.
Montreal Canadiens - The top line of Pacioretty-Denuault-Radulov will be in play. I also like the second line of Lehkonen-Galchenyuk-Byron as they will be lower owned. Weber and Markov on defense.
New York Rangers - Kreider-Zibanejad-Zuccarello will be my line to the target. An argument can be made for the second line of Vesey-Stephan-Nash as well. McDonagh and Girardi are great on defense. Skjei is a cheap gpp option.
Pittsburgh Penguins - Crosby's line will dominate this game. Consider Kessel line as a one off. Letang and Cole with a flier on Maatta on defense.
Minnesota Wild - The second line of Granlund-Koivu-Zucker will be very popular tonight for reasons mentioned above. I also like the two player stack of Staal-Niederreiter as well. Pick any of their defensive players and go with it.
San Jose Sharks - I love a two-player stack of Thornton/Pavelski in this game. You also can't overlook Tierney-Ward as a sneaky GPP play. On such a huge slate, I'm not wasting my money on Burns. Vlasic and Braun are good plays on defense.
Also Consider: Columbus top line, Tampa top line, Nashville top 2 lines, Ottawa top line, Carolina top line, Wash top 2 lines.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
I will list a few goalies that I like tonight, and if you want to play them in cash, gpp, or both.
Dubnyk - Cash/GPP
Jones - Cash/GPP
Bishop - GPP
Murray - Cash/GPP
Price - Cash/GPP
Bobrovsky - GPP
Holtby - GPP
Lehtonen - Risky GPP
Toronto Starting Goalie - GPP
Mr. Pucks Little Bit
The defensive pair of Klingberg/Lindell (Dallas), has allowed ten goals to be scored against them in the last ten games. They face off against Toronto, so consider either the Kadri or Bozak line in a few lineups.
