After a two-game slate yesterday, the NHL is giving us a full slate of games tonight. With the trade deadline fast approaching you will see guys start to step up to get noticed. Who wouldn't up their gameplay to get traded to a contender. Also, I expect some big names to move. With the expansion draft this year, teams will look offload players they would otherwise lose and get nothing in return. Enough about the deadline, though. Time to dig into tonight's slate and find some gold at the end of the Zamboni.
Mr. Pucks Profound Three
I was asked if these are three players people should use. What I suggest is, building around at least one of my three choices. Let us take a look at my top three.
Connor McDavid (Edm) - Cente r- ($8600 FD / $8100 DK)
McDavid is fast become the face of the NHL. Currently leading the NHL with 61 total points, this kid is the complete package. He and his Oilers play a Coyotes team in the second half of a back to back. More than likely the Coyotes will have Louis Domingue in net. I fully expect McDavid to rip apart the ‘Yotes defense and bury two past Domingue. I will have a ton of exposure to him in my lineups and you should too. Did I mention the Coyotes are the worst in the NHL against the center position?
Anders Lee (NYI) - Wing - ($5800 FD /$5500 DK)
Lee has been one of the hottest players this last two weeks in the NHL. With five goals and six assists in his last ten games, this guy is the real deal. Tonight he gets to showcase his talents against a Maple Leafs team currently ranked 25th in the NHL in defending the wing position. The Leafs give up 2.9 goals a game, and Lee will feast on them. A goal and an assist with four shots on goal should be his stat line this evening.
Jason Pominville (MIN) - Wing - ($5500 FD / $4600 DK)
Like Lee above, Pominville has been on pure fire these last few games. With nine points (two goals / seven assists) in his last five games, he is showing his elite skills. He and his Wild get a home game (19-6-1 at home) against the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks are middle of the road when it comes to defense. Pominville has been in the NHL long enough to find and exploit holes. I can see him getting two assists tonight with five shots on goal and a blocked shot. Huge upside at a low price.
Mr. Pucks’ Sleeper Play of the Night
P.A. Parenteau (NJ) - Wing - ($4700 FD / $3600 DK)
If you have been following me, then you know Parenteau is one of my favorite sleeper plays. He is often overlooked and under-owned. Tonight he gets to face off against his former team, The Colorado Avalanche. In seven career games against his former team, P.A. has two goals and four assists. I suspect he gets us a goal and two assists tonight with three shots on goal. His goal will be the game winner, or so I hope.
Teams To Target
A few teams to target and build your lineups around.
Pittsburgh Penguins - The Crosby line will be popular tonight. Consider any of their top three lines against a lowly Vancouver team. Letang and Cole on defense.
Edmonton Oilers - Will have a good amount of exposure to McDavid's line, especially in cash games. Consider the second line of Lucic-Draisaitl-Slepyshev for gpp. Sekera or Klefbom on defense.
Minnesota Wild - The third line of Praise-Coyle-Pominville will be a great gpp and cash saving cash game line to target. Also consider the second line of Zucker-Koivu-Granlund as well. Suter and Dumba on defense.
Winnipeg Jets - The second line of Laine-Little-Ehlers will control this game. I will have exposure in my cash games for sure. Byfuglien or Trouba on defense.
Toronto Maple Leafs - I like James van Riemsdyk and Nazem Kadri to take over tonight. Matthews should have a nice showing. Love Zaitsev to have a huge game on defense.
Also Consider: NJ 2nd and 4th lines, Vancouver 3rd line and Ott top line.
**As always check before puck drop to see starting goalies, as things change**
I will list a few goalies that I like tonight, and if you want to play them in cash, gpp, or both.
My Top Pick for Cash
On a night everyone will target one of the top three goalies in their cash games, I will be on Schneider. Schneider is 3-1 in his last four starts and gets an Avalanche team that ranks dead last in the NHL in goals for at 1.85 goals per game on the road. I don’t see him facing a lot of shots on net as the Avs average 28 or less per game. Schneider sports a .928 save percentage in his last five and should get the all-important win. Great GPP play as well.
Murray - Cash/GPP
Talbot - Cash/GPP
Dubnyk - Cash/GPP
Schneider - GPP
Anderson - GPP (Won last game with 33 save shutout)
Hellebuyck - GPP
