2017 Fantasy Baseball: Baltimore Orioles Team Preview

Dr. Roto previews each and every Fantasy relevant player on the Baltimore Orioles as we approach opening day!

Team Previews in a Fantasy Nutshell: Baltimore Orioles

Projected Starting Lineup

C: Wellington Castillo—I have always liked him, but he has never lived up to my lofty expectations. He should be able to hit close to 20 HR this year for the Orioles if he can stay healthy.

1B: Chris Davis—He is a HR hitting machine. Lock him in for 30 HR and 95 RBI and possibly more in 2017.

2B: Jonathan Schoop—I think he is capable of improving on last year’s stats. If Buck moves him up in the batting order, 30+ HR would not be out of the question. (UNDERRATED)

SS: J.J. Hardy—His best days are well past him. Only an option in seriously deep AL-only leagues. (AVOID)

3B: Manny Machado—A supreme young talent and a top 10 overall player. Even better is that he qualifies for SS and 3B.

OF: Adam Jones—Steady as they come but beginning to slow down just a bit. He’s going in the 6th round or so right now which is a decent value.

OF: Seth Smith/Joey Rickard—I don’t want either guy on my seasonal teams, but for DFS purposes Smith rakes RHP and Rickard hits LHP very well.

OF: Hyun Soo Kim—Never produced like anticipated. He aspires to be Nick Markakis which is not a compliment.

DH: Mark Trumbo—If you need 35+ HRs look no further than Trumbo. Last year might have been his peak, but I still think he can be a great source of power to Fantasy rosters.

Pitching Staff

SP: Chris Tillman—I think he is miscast as a #1 starter. He will lose a lot of games facing the opposing team’s best pitcher. Be careful about rostering him if your league uses a wins minus losses scoring system.

SP: Kevin Gausman—I think he is ready to bust out and this is his year. Then again I have been saying that for a year now. He will prove me right in 2017! (VISIONARY)

SP: Dylan Bundy—Bundy is back in the rotation, and the Orioles have said that they won’t limit his innings. He’s going to have some great games, and some disasters so be careful using him on two-start weeks where he can decimate your ERA.

SP: Wade Miley—He will not be on any of my teams this year.

SP: Ubaldo Jimenez—See Wade Miley.

RP: Darren O’Day—A very solid setup man with top notch peripherals.

Closer: Zach Britton—Arguably the best closer in the game but yet goes third or fourth off the board in drafts. That’s just fine by me as I will scoop him up as often as I can while others overvalue Chapman and Jansen.
