Fantasy Hockey: Scouting The NHL DFS - Wednesday, March 8

Cash in on DraftKings and FanDuel with FSWA Hockey Writer of the Year Mr. Pucks!

Last night turned out to be an up and down night for me in my DFS lineups. Looking at a few of the games, the Wild did us no favors at all playing very lethargic and not doing much in the department of scoring. The Sabres did score a few goals which helped some of our lineups, but they allowed the Flyers to score six goals which did not help so much. Tonight is a new night, and we have a small three-game slate, where all the games start at 8 pm. The one thing I like about this is that you won't have to worry about a late game surge to overtake your lineups. I expect a fair amount of goals to be scored in all the game tonight, making the goalie position a bit trickier to pick. Tonight, even the chalk will be hard to avoid. I suggest sticking to single entry games tonight or three entry max. You can try the Dr. Roto $3 and a dream, but with only three games, the Sharks will turn your dream into a nightmare.

Mr. Pucks Profound Three

Patric Hornqvist (Pit) -Wing- ($6600 FD / $6600 DK)

On a night where the NHL world will be talking up the Crosby-Laine rematch, everyone will be overlooking some of the obvious plays in this game. Although Hornqvist plays on the Pens third line, don’t let that fool you, as the Pens third line, would be the first line on 95% of the teams in the NHL. They are very stacked, and a lot of the DFS players do not know this. This will help with ownership levels tonight, which could be the key. In his last game against the Jets, Hornqvist had an assist, two shots on goal, and a blocked shot. Tonight I see the same stats, but included in the line are a goal and two more shots on net. I will have a lot of him and his linemates Guentzel and Bonino in my lineups tonight.

Patrice Bergeron (Bos) -Center- ($7300 FD / $7400 DK)

As it stands at the moment, the Bruins hold a very slim lead in the playoff standings and will be looking to widen their margin. After not making much noise at the trade deadline, the Bruins are set to make their run. The Run will start with Bergeron and his elite skills. The Bruins, in general, will be somewhat chalky tonight, but I will not fade them one bit. With three goals and five assists in his last five game, Bergeron is starting to put the team on his back and help them win games. Tonight, against one of the NHLs worst defensive teams; he should have no problems scoring. I feel he gets a goal and two assists while adding five shots on net. Pairing him with Marchand and Backes will make a nice, possible high scoring full line stack.

Mark Stone (Ott) ($5900 FD / $5900 DK)

Stone is one of the reasons that the Sens are holding on to a playoff spot. Despite all the team's injuries (including his own), he has been an offensive threat. With 22 goals and 27 assists on the season, Stone will look to finish the season off strong, and help his team lock in a playoff spot. Tonight he and his team head to Dallas to play a Stars teams that have been playing inspired hockey at home. In his last game against the Stars, Stone scored a goal on his only shot on net. I see him firing at will against the Stars and getting us a goal and two assists with four shots on net. I also feel his goal will be the game winning goal. Pairing him with Burrows will make a nice cash game stack, include his center Brassard for a full GPP line stack.

Mr. Pucks Sleeper Play

Joel Armia (Wpg) - Wing - ($3300 FD / $3200 DK)

Like Hornqvist above, tonight is a night where most players will overlook some of the role guys in these games. Armia is one of those role players that shows up in the bigger games. With this game being Nationally televised, he will try and steal the show and get all eyes on him. He is not a big goal scorer and is normally put on the ice to help defend some of the league's best offensive players. Tonight though, he will surprise everyone and score us a goal. He is on the Jets third line and will be a nice standalone in a few lineups. Not only to free up cap space but to also have upside. I see him hitting 5x value tonight with a goal and an assist and two shots on net. Let's toss in two blocked shots as well.

Teams To Target

Pittsburgh Penguins - Crosby and his line will be popular tonight. I will have a bit of use of his line as well as Malkin's line. I will focus a bit more on the third line with Hornqvist. Schultz and Cole on defense with a flier on Streit.

Boston Bruins - I will have a lot of exposure to the top line with Bergeron as my anchor. The second line of Cehlarik-Krejci-Pastrnak will also be high owned and well worth it. I love Carlo and Krug on defense.

Ottawa Senators - I like the Sens to control most of the action against the Stars in this game. Other then the top line with Stone-Burrows, I will also be using small two player stacks of Hoffman-Pageau. Karlsson is the top defender tonight and will be highest owned; I will have him as well. Consider Ceci as a one off, or Widerman as a punt.

Winnipeg Jets - I do not see Murray and the Pens shutting out the Jets as evident in the last time these two teams met 4-3 Pens OT win. I will use some of the Laine line as well as Armia and his linemates. Byfuglien and Trouba on defense.

Also consider - Dal 1
