Fantasy Hockey: Scouting The NHL DFS - Wednesday, March 22

Cash in on DraftKings and FanDuel with FSWA Hockey Writer of the Year Mr. Pucks!

We have made it to the most boring day of the week, Wednesday. This is the one day of the week that most people just kind of work on their plans for the weekend and just let the day pass. We had a solid Tuesday night with Crosby and Kucherov coming through for us, and if you watch the NHL at all, I’m sure you’ve seen Crosby’s amazing end-to-end, one handed, backhand wrist shot for his goal. It was sick. That goal, along with a few others, helped the Penguins clinch a berth into the NHL playoffs and solidify their attempt to defend the Stanley Cup.

On to tonight's slate...We have a small three-game slate, where I would suggest staying away from MME GPP games. The players with the big bankrolls will flood these contests, making your odds of hitting very, very low. I would suggest sticking to the Single Entry or Three Entry Max GPP contests and of course cash games. Let’s dive into the action and push ourselves into the money!

Mr. Pucks Profound Three

Cam Atkinson (CBJ) - Wing - ($7200 FD / $7400 DK)

In a rare occurrence of events, a player is higher on DraftKings than on FanDuel. Atkinson is having a great season with 36 goals and 29 assists on the year, and is facing a Maple Leafs team that is currently ranked 27th in the NHL when it comes to defending the wing position. I like Atkinson's chance to light up the score sheet, especially on his home ice where he has 14 goals and 19 assists. I see him adding two more goals to that home total tonight, as well as an assist in a game I think the Blue Jackets score a ton. I will have him in all of my cash lineups without question.

Patrick Eaves (Ana) - Wing - ($5100 FD / $5400 DK)

Like Atkinson above, Eaves is pricier on DraftKings than FanDuel. Does DK know something FD doesn’t? Eaves was given a great gift when he was sent from the Dallas Stars to the Anaheim Ducks and on to a team that should have no issues making the playoffs. I feel Eaves is about to go on a monster of a scoring run, with tonight’s matchup against the Edmonton Oilers being the catalyst. A lot of people will have exposure to Edmonton in this game, but I am banking on Anaheim on home ice, and Eaves to lead the way. I foresee two goals from him tonight plus his linemates lighting up the score sheet. Eaves is one guy I will have in all my lineups, no matter GPP or Cash.

Leon Draisaitl (Edm) - Wing - ($6800 FD / $6200 DK)

I do realize I said I would be targeting Anaheim in this game, but I will also have some Edmonton plays as well. Mainly, I will be using Draisaitl tonight, as he has really benefited from being on McDavid’s line. Draisaitl is a beast when it comes to helping players score. He has 41 assists on the year and is currently on a four-game point streak with a goal and eight assists over that span. I see him continuing that streak with a goal and two assists tonight and taking a team-high six shots on goal. The Ducks will focus their attention on McDavid, and this will open up Draisaitl to capitalize.

Mr. Pucks Sleeper Play

Casey Cizikas (NYI) - Center - ($3300 FD / $3400 DK)

Cizikas has been somewhat of a disappointment this season, and has been relegated to fourth line duty. With only seven goals on the season (three of those seven have come in his last 11 games), Cizikas is hardly ever used in DFS as his value is not high most nights. The one thing about Cizikas is he steps up when it comes to playing teams in the Metro Division. Tonight, I can see him exceeding value while being less than 4 percent owned in any format. It is this type of play we need on such a short slate. Look for an assist and three shots on net, with a possible goal, and watch him hit 6x value at a very low cost. He is much more of a GPP play for me as a cap space saver.

Teams To Target

Columbus Blue Jackets - Honestly I think this game will be the highest targeted game in DFS ownership. I will focus most of my play on the second line of Atkinson-Gagner-Saad. I also like the top line pairing of Jenner and Dubinsky. Bjorkstrand has been moved to the the third line, but is still on the top power play unit, and could add some nice points to your lineup. Werenski and Jones are great plays on defense, and I am leaning a bit more towards Jones myself. Jack Johnson is a nice pivot.

Anaheim Ducks - The top line pair of Eaves and Rakell will be in most of my cash game lineups tonight. Throw in center Ryan Getzlaf for a full line stack. The second line of Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg will be somewhat highly owned, but a safe pivot off the top line. Fowler will be one of the highest owned defensive players on the slate. I also like Lindholm.

New York Islanders - In the battle of New York, I feel the Islanders will come out on top in this game of attrition. I do have a good amount of top line exposure in my three entry max GPPS tonight. I think the Ladd-Tavares-Bailey line will offer a lot of scoring. I also feel that Ho-Sang will be in many lineups due to his current run but I will not be on him tonight. Instead, consider a cheap fourth line play of Kulemin-Cizikas or the third line pair of Nelson-Strome. I love the Isles defense as they are one of the top teams in the NHL in blocking shots. I like Leddy as he is on the top power play unit.

Also Consider: NYR 2, Edm 1, Tor 1

Goalies

**As always check before puck drop to see if your goalie is starting**

  • Greiss - Cash/GPP (My Top Play)
  • Bernier - GPP
  • Korpisalo - GPP - (My Favorite GPP play)
  • Talbot - GPP

Mr. Pucks Tiny Tidbit Offense

The top two line production combinations on tonight's slate are that of Marron-McDavid-Draisaitl (seven goals in last 10 games) and the line of Rakell-Getzlaf-Eaves (six goals in last 10 games).

Mr. Pucks Tiny Tidbit Defense

The defensive pairing of Zaitsev-Rielly (Toronto), have allowed seven goals in the last 10 games. With that said, even though the Leafs have split them up, I like the second line for the Blue Jackets to take advantage as they will mainly face up against Zaitsev who has a -23 +/- on the season.
