Plays of the Day
Value: Skal Labissiere went for 10 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in a blowout loss at Oracle Arena on Friday and he’s averaging 15.4 PPG and 8 RPG while playing a solid 26 MPG over his last 5 appearances. The lengthy forward should see plenty of run today in an effort to slow down Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan at the Staples Center and so far he’s been up to all challenges.
Fade: Nikola Jokic destroyed the Pacers in his last outing and seems to draw a good matchup against the Pelicans tonight, but I trust Anthony Davis to contain The Joker to an extent and perhaps hold him shy of value at a lofty price tag.
- Denver Nuggets (-6) hosting New Orleans Pelicans (Over/Under = 226.5)
- Houston Rockets (-6.5) hosting Oklahoma City Thunder (Over/Under = 232.5)
Isaiah Thomas (BOS) vs. MIA DK:$8,400/FD:$8,600
Lost in the midst of Devin Booker’s historic 70-point outburst on Friday night was a great scoring game from Thomas, who dropped 34 points with 7 dimes in a high-scoring win over the Suns. The Celtics (-5.5) remain home today for what should be a more competitive tilt against the streaking Heat and Thomas is usually at his best in the fourth quarter of close games. He’s averaging 33.3 PPG over 3 meetings with Miami this year and torched that team for 50 points at TD Garden a couple of months ago. Miami coughs up the eighth-most PPG (23.38) to opposing PGs over the last month and has few answers for I.T.
Jeff Teague (IND) vs. PHI DK:$7,000/FD:$7,400
While he’s no longer dramatically under priced on DK, Teague is still a solid upper-tier option given his recent consistency. He’s averaging 20.8 PPG and 6.8 APG over his last 4 appearances and draws a dream matchup today against a porous 76ers defense. Philadelphia gives up the fourth-most PPG (111.14) and third-most overall FPPG (218.47) over the last month along with the tenth-most FPPG (45.05) to opposing PGs during that span. Teague’s had little trouble operating against the 76ers with averages of 21.5 PPG and 6.5 APG over 2 meetings with Philly and he’s been much more efficient at home this season.
Ty Lawson ($4500/$5100) is back with the Kings and producing steady numbers. After disappearing while Booker went off, Tyler Ulis ($6700) could be an intriguing mid-tier value on DK.
Austin Rivers ($3500/$4100) is a good bet for production if the Clippers win in blowout fashion today over the lowly Kings.
James Harden (HOU) vs. OKC DK:$12,500/FD:$12,500
Harden and Westbrook will make the closing arguments for their MVP cases today in a game that’s certainly worth targeting with a lofty 232-point Over/Under in Houston. The Beard has been on fire lately with averages of 35.2 PPG, 10 RPG and 12.4 APG over his last 5 appearances and he’s topped 72 DK points in 5 of his last 6 starts. He seems to be safer than Westbrook at a cheaper price tag and he’s in a better spot at home today against his former team in the Thunder. So far this season, Harden’s been held in relative check with averages of 20 PPG, 12.3 APG and 8 RPG over 3 meetings with OKC, but he’s turning up right now and will have to be aggressive if he wants to step in front of Russ for the right to MVP honors.
Josh Richardson ($5000/$4600) could benefit if Avery Bradley (illness) remains out for the C’s and Jaylen Brown ($4100/$4000 as SF on FD) would step up for Boston if that’s the case.
Buddy Hield ($5700/$5400) was great in Golden State over the weekend and will look to ride that momentum into another tough matchup against the Clippers defense.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) vs. CHI DK:$9,900/FD:$10,600 as SG
Somehow, Giannis is still under $10K on DraftKings despite exceeding value in consecutive games with huge lines. He’s a nightly triple double threat with the potential to put up elite defensive stats and he’s burned Chicago at every turn with averages of 29 PPG, 10 RPG, 7.3 APG and 5.7 STL/BLK per game over 3 meetings with the Bulls this season. He’s been more productive at home all season with averages of 24.3 PPG and 50.5 DK PPG while shooting 54.2% from the floor in Milwaukee and draws a good matchup against a Chicago team that’s giving up the tenth-most overall FPPG (205.61) over the last month. Jimmy Butler has to should such a large load offensively now that D-Wade is out and his defense may suffer as a result while he tries to contain The Greek Freak.
Tony Allen ($3800/NA) always gets up to face the Warriors and he’s a great source of salary relief for the late slate on DK. Tyreke Evans ($4500/$5500 as SG on FD) is a good value for the early slate.
Robert Covington ($6500/$6800) will look to shoot the 76ers into the game tonight at Indiana and he’ll provide excellent returns if he’s hitting.
Anthony Davis (NO) @ DEN: DK:$10,000/FD:NA
The possibility of DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) sitting tonight makes Davis potentially the best overall play on DK but he’s worth consideration regardless. Denver has been better at defending opposing centers than PFs all season and The Brow went bonkers with 50 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, 5 steals and 94.25 DK points in his sole meeting with the Nuggets this year. He’ll face a team that now ranks 29th in opponents FG shooting (.479%) and defensive rating this season while jumping all the way to 4th in offensive rating thanks to the exploits of Nikola Jokic. Yet I’ll take Davis over The Joker in a H2H matchup and will gladly exploit his price tag on DraftKings.
Skal Labissiere (SAC) @ LAC: DK:$4,900/FD:$4,700
Skal is providing the Kings with the playmaking and passing they might’ve hoped to see from Willie Cauley-Stein since Cousins moved on to New Orleans, and he’s much cheaper than Big Willie Styles on both main DFS sites. The rookie went for 10 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in a blowout loss at Oracle Arena on Friday and he’s averaging 15.4 PPG and 8 RPG while playing a solid 26 MPG over his last 5 appearances. The lengthy forward should see plenty of run today in an effort to slow down Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan at the Staples Center and so far he’s been up to all challenges.
Jared Dudley ($3700/$3600) really stepped up with only 9 players active for the Suns on Friday and he’ll be worth a look if that situation remains unchanged.
Nikola Mirotic ($5600/$4600) followed up his offensive explosion with a solid game while playing 27 minutes against the Sixers and he’s worth consideration in a plus matchup at Milwaukee.
Hassan Whiteside (MIA) @ BOS: DK:$8,200/FD:$8,800
Whiteside is expected to play through a mild ankle sprain this evening and the questionable tag next to his name might help lower his ownership rate in a juicy matchup. While Al Horford ($6900/$7000) is playing much better and is worth a look as an upper-tier option in his own right, Boston still ranks 27th in total rebounding and gives up the ninth-most FPPG (48.77) and RPG (15.66) to opposing centers this season. Whiteside is averaging 19.7 PPG and 14 RPG over 3 meetings with the Celtics this season and burned Boston with averages of 12.7 PPG, 10.7 RPG and 5 BPG over 3 meetings last season (2 starts). He’s an absolute game changer when healthy and should be ready to turn up in a big test for the Heat with playoff seeding on the line.
Alex Len ($4800/$5000) and Alan Williams ($5400/$5400) are splitting time rather evenly right now and that makes both decent mid-tier options on DK in a plus matchup at Charlotte.
Jusuf Nurkic ($7700/NA) has as much upside as anyone on the late slate on DK in a fantastic matchup against the Lakers poor frontcourt defense.
