Week 3 Fantasy Baseball: Ronis Injury Report

Every season, injuries plague certain players and specific teams. Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis looks at the significant injuries affecting the Fantasy world in Week 3!

It was a rough week for injuries. Several players landed on the disabled list and several will miss multiple weeks. There was some good news for players making their way back and several will return this week.

Significant Injuries

3B Josh Donaldson, Toronto Blue Jays

Donaldson was placed on the disabled list on Friday and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Donaldson has been dealing with this injury since the spring and the rest will hopefully get him healthy.

RP Sam Dyson, Texas Rangers

Dyson might be on the DL for a bruised ego. The Rangers are saying it's a right hand contusion. In 4.1 innings, Dyson has allowed 13 runs with five walks and two strikeouts. Keone Kela was called up to take Dyson's roster spot. Matt Bush will be the closer, but manager Jeff Bannister said Bush will not pitch three consecutive days. Add Bush if he's available. Jeremy Jeffress could be in the mix, too. It's difficult to see Dyson getting the job back.

SP Rich Hill, Los Angeles Dodgers

Hill could be a fixture in this column. Once again, the blister is back. A blister kept him sidelined for two months last season. Don't drop Hill since he has been excellent when he does pitch, but he's frustrating for fantasy owners. Let him get through a game first without a problem before starting him. Alex Wood will take Hill's spot in the rotation.

OF Jarrett Parker, San Francisco Giants

Parker was placed on the DL with a broken clavicle after crashing into the outfield wall. He had surgery and is expected to miss two months. He can be dropped outside of NL-only leagues.

SS Marcus Semien, Oakland A's

Semien will have surgery to repair a fracture of the scaphoid bone in his right wrist. A screw will be inserted to help the bone heal. He will have a CT scan in six weeks and will be re-evaluated. He could miss two months or more, so this is bad news for fantasy owners. Chad Pinder was called up to take the roster spot. Adam Rosales is expected to play most of the time at shortstop. Prospect Franklin Barreto will not get called up for now.

SP Jonathan Gray, Colorado Rockies

Gray has a stress fracture in his left foot and is expected to miss one month. Stash him on a DL spot if you have one. In 10-team leagues, you can cut him if you don't have the room to hold.

SP Brandon Finnegan, Cincinnati Reds

Finnegan was placed on the DL with a strained left trapezius muscle. He will be shut down for a few weeks. Finnegan walked nine in 10 innings and isn't someone you must stash.

RP Huston Street, Los Angeles Angels

Street was moved to the 60-day DL, so this gives more time for Cam Bedrosian to seize the closer job and he has the skill set to keep the job and he should.

OF Charlie Tilson, Chicago White Sox

Tilson was the favorite to start the season as the centerfielder, but had a stress fracture in his foot during the spring. The walking boot was removed from the foot on Monday. He still hasn't been cleared for baseball activity. When he does return, he could be a source of steals.

The Unknown

RP Zach Britton, Baltimore Orioles

Britton was placed on the disabled list with a forearm injury. There's no details on how long he will be out. The Orioles are saying it's not serious. Britton hasn't blown a save, converting all five opportunities, but it hasn't been smooth. In seven innings, he has allowed 10 hits, walked three and struck out six. Brad Brach is expected to fill in as the closer.

SP Carlos Rodon, Chicago White Sox

There is no timetable for the return of Rodon. He is dealing with bursitis in his left biceps. He is on a strengthening program and will be evaluated Friday when the White Sox return home. In shallow leagues without DL spots, it might be difficult to roster Rodon until more details are available.

SP J.A. Happ, Toronto Blue Jays

It's being reported that the elbow injury Happ has is not serious. He is dealing with elbow inflammation. It's not clear how much time he will miss.

SP Aaron Sanchez, Toronto Blue Jays

Sanchez was placed on the 10-day DL with a blister. Lets hope it's not to the level of Rich Hill.

SS Trea Turner, Washington Nationals

Turner is eligible return from the DL on Wednesday, but there's no indication if he will be back that day. Turner has been running sprints and it's critical he's 100 percent, especially since he's dealing with a hamstring injury and his legs are key to his fantasy success since stolen bases separate him.

SP Jake Odorizzi, Tampa Bay Rays

Odorizzi was placed on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. The injury isn't believed to be serious, but hamstrings can vary from each individual based on the degree of the injury. Erasmo Ramirez will fill in for Odorizzi.

Return Looming

SP Kendall Graveman, Oakland A's

Graveman lasted five innings on 74 pitches before being removed in his last start and it turned out he was injured. Graveman is expected to miss one start with a right shoulder strain. In three starts, he has a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 12:5 K:BB ratio.

http://www.scout.com/player/64385-buster-posey?s=532

Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants

Posey was on the seven-day DL with a concussion. He was already feeling better the next day. Posey is eligible to be activated Tuesday April 18.

1B Matt Carpenter, St. Louis Cardinals

Carpenter sat out Monday's game against the Pirates with a swollen finger after he was hit by a ground ball. He could return to the lineup Tuesday depending on the swelling.

2B Jason Kipnis, Cleveland Indians

Indians manager Terry Francona said a best case scenario has Kipnis being activated Friday. Even if it's not Friday, it appears Kipnis is close to a return from the shoulder injury.

OF Matt Kemp, Atlanta Braves

Kemp is eligible to be activated from the DL on Wednesday and it appears he will be ready. Kemp was sizzling before the hamstring injury. Kemp was hitting .500 with two home runs and four RBIs in 16 at-bats.

SS Jean Segura, Seattle Mariners

Segura is on track to be activated from the disabled list on Friday. The hamstring injury wasn't considered serious and teams will begin doing this with the new 10-day DL.
