The Night that Was
— Mets SP Noah Syndergaard left the game in the second inning yesterday with what the team is saying is a lat strain. He is scheduled for an MRI today, but a DL stint is likely. If you drafted a pitcher in Rounds 1-2—would you do it again? I am not sure the answer to that question would be yes.
— The Red Sox might be missing SP David Price, but SP Eduardo Rodriguez is filling in admirably for the team thus far. ERod has 31 Ks in 24 IP this year and has emerged as the perfect SP4 when Price returns.
— I feel sorry for Nationals OF Adam Eaton. He was in the perfect spot to shine this year and had started the season out hot. Now he will miss the next nine months or so with a torn ACL. Look for Michael Taylor to take his spot in the OF. Taylor is a maddeningly inconsistent player, looking amazing at the plate one night and completely overmatched the next. I would spend no more than 15-20% of my FAAB budget on him.
— Giants SP Ty Blach is not a big strikeout guy, but he has looked good in his last two starts in the Giants rotation as he takes Mad Bum’s spot in the rotation. The lack of Ks is a potential concern, but I like him a lot in NL-only leagues.
— I remember Peter Gammons talking years ago about how RP Bud Norris could be a great closer in the majors if given a chance—and although it took about eight years to happen, Gammons was right. Norris has done an exceptional job in Cam Bedrosian’s absence and might just have worked himself into the closer picture when Bedrosian returns from injury.
— Don’t underrate Reds OF Scott Schebler. I think he is going to hit 25+ HR this year and he might still be on your league’s waiver wire.
