The Night that Was
— Don’t despair if you had Yankees SP Luis Severino or Braves SP Julio Teheran last night in either seasonal leagues or DFS. They were both great plays and I expected them to perform much better than they did. As my friend, Tony Cincotta always says, “Never confuse the results with the decision.” The decision to start them last night was absolutely correct.
— I know Orioles SP Dylan Bundy has gotten off to a hot start, but it now might be a great time to trade him. Bundy will have an innings cap as the season moves forward and his strikeout numbers are not special. If someone in your league is willing to overpay for young talent, take advantage of that soon before the window closes.
— I am not sure if there is a more frustrating pitcher than Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (#fantasyfrustration). One night he looks like Cy Young and the next night he looks like Chris Bosio. If he is on your league’s waiver wire, I would grab him for a few bucks and hope that he can get you a bunch of strikeouts.
— I have this sneaky feeling that the Kansas City Royals offense is going to start hitting soon. If someone in your league has given up on 1B Eric Hosmer now might be the perfect time to make a trade offer. He won’t cost you much, and you will be the beneficiary of his hot second half.
— Last night’s game was the reason I rarely, if ever, use Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw in DFS. I know that he is the best pitcher in baseball, but on the nights he is simply only “good” he costs a king’s ransom to roster. I much prefer taking the 3rd or 4th best guy on the board as my SP and having a few extra bucks for my hitting.
