Fantasy Baseball Week 5: Injury Breakdown

Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis looks at the injuries affecting the Fantasy landscape one month into the season.



RP Zach Britton, Baltimore Orioles

Britton was better in his second rehab appearance and is scheduled to return Tuesday May 2.

1B Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers

Cabrera is eligible to return from the DL on Tuesday May 2 and manager Brad Ausmus said Cabrera will be activated.

1B C.J. Cron, Los Angeles Angels

Cron is on the DL with a bruised foot and eligible to return May 9. He is expected to be ready on that date. Cron is batting .233 with no home runs in 17 games.

OF Avisail Garcia, Chicago White Sox

Garcia left Sunday's game with a groin injury and sat out Monday. He isn't expected to miss much time.

OF Mitch Haniger, Seattle Mariners

Haniger is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with an oblique injury.

SP J.A. Happ, Toronto Blue Jays

Happ was long-tossing over the weekend, but he's not ready to return from his elbow injury yet.

SP Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners

Hernandez is out with right shoulder inflammation and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

3B Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays

Longoria said he's dealing with soreness in his left foot that is similar to the plantar fasciitis that he had in his right foot four years ago. He didn't play Monday and hopes to return Tuesday and could be used as the designated hitter.

SP Sean Manaea, Oakland Athletics

Manaea was placed on the 10-day DL with a left shoulder strain. He is expected to miss one start.

OF J.D. Martinez, Detroit Tigers

Martinez had soreness after playing in an extended spring training game on April 28. He could return early this month.

SP Aaron Sanchez, Toronto Blue Jays

Sanchez returned from the DL on Sunday and lasted one inning. He is back on the DL with a split nail on his right middle finger.

C Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees

Sanchez could start a rehab assignment as soon as May 2 and could return to the Yankees this weekend.

SP Tyler Skaggs, Los Angeles Angels

Skaggs was placed on the 10-day DL with an oblique strain. He will miss 8-12 weeks as Skaggs continues to be plagued by injuries. He was given a platelet-rich plasma injection to help speed up the healing process. With no DL slots or limited spots, you can cut Skaggs.

OF Jorge Soler, Kansas City Royals

Soler has played in eight rehab games as he works his way back from an oblique injury. He is batting .308 with two home runs and five RBIs. The final day of his 20-day window is May 10 and he's expected to complete it.

SP Steven Wright, Boston Red Sox

Wright was placed on the 10-day DL with a sprained left knee. Wright has been dealing with knee pain since the spring.


SP Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants

Bumgarner is expected to miss three months Grade 2 left shoulder sprain and bruised ribs.

OF Yoenis Cespedes, New York Mets

Cespedes was placed on the 10-day DL with a mild hamstring injury. There's no timetable for his return.

SS Brandon Crawford, San Francisco Giants

Crawford is on the DL with a groin injury. He is eligible to be activated Friday and the expectation is Crawford will be ready.

OF David Dahl, Colorado Rockies

Manager Bud Black said on Sirius XM on Tuesday that Dahl is not close to a return. Dahl is working his way back from a rib injury and hasn't been able to swing with 100 percent force.

OF Adam Eaton, Washington Nationals

Eaton suffered a brutal injury, tearing his ACL and meniscus. He is out for the season and can be dropped in redraft leagues.

2B Logan Forsythe, Los Angeles Dodgers

Forsythe is out with a right big toe fracture and is slated to begin rehab assignment on Wednesday or Thursday. Manager Dave Roberts said Forsythe will need 2-3 games before being activated.

3B David Freese, Pittsburgh Pirates

Freese was placed on the 10-day DL with a hamstring injury.

RP Koda Glover, Washington Nationals

Glover is on the 10-day DL with a hip impingement.

SP Shelby Miller, Arizona Diamondbacks

Miller has a partial tear in his UCL and will have Tommy John surgery. He is out for the season.

SP Aaron Nola, Phillies

Nola threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday. Nola, who is out with a back injury, felt soreness after a bullpen session on Friday and felt fine after Monday's. He's not expected to miss much time.

OF Joc Pederson, Los Angeles Dodgers

Pederson is coming off a groin injury and began a rehab assignment Monday. He is scheduled to return Friday.

SP Hyun-Jin Ryu, Los Angeles Dodgers

You can't complain about this one. An injury was inevitable. Ryu was placed on the 10-day DL with a hip issue.

OF Denard Span, San Francisco Giants

Span is out with a shoulder injury and there's no timetable for his return.

SP Noah Syndergaard, New York Mets

Syndergaard will miss time with a partial tear in his right lat muscle. There is no timetable for his return, but Steven Matz missed two months with a similar injury. Rafael Montero is likely to take Syndergaard's spot in the rotation.
