Plays of the Day
Value: Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger has been on fire since getting the call up with a .357/.426/.786 slash line and 5 homers over just 42 at-bats this year and he’s going to keep starting with Adrian Gonzalez on the shelf. Bellinger just went 5-for-9 with 3 homers in a stint at massive Petco Park and now he returns home to Dodger Stadium to face a pitcher that struggled against lefties at the AAA level last year.
Fade: Marcus Stroman has shown great improvement this year, but he was lit up by the Yankees in his last outing and faces a very tough matchup in the form of the defending A.L. champion Indians this evening.
Team Target Stacks
Cubs: Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Jon Jay, Willson Contereras
Dodgers: Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal
Nationals: Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, Matt Wieters
Yankees: Brett Gardner, Gary Sanchez, Chase Headley, Aaron Judge
Chance of storms in Colorado that could lead to delays or even a postponement depending on severity.
Jacob deGrom: (NYM) vs. SF DK: $10,800/FD: $10,700
He’s coming off his first truly rough start of the season, but deGrom is still worth paying up for in a plus matchup at home. He’s sporting a 2.31 ERA over 2 home starts this year and posted a 2.11 ERA with a .198 BAA over 81 IP at Citi Field last season. He’s also been great against the Giants, holding them to a combined .224 average (11-for-49) with 0 homers allowed and 11 K’s over 56 plate appearances and that offense is not exactly on fire right now with a league-worst 36 runs scored over the last two weeks.
Gio Gonzalez: (WAS) @ BAL DK: $8,700/FD: $8,900
Gonzo is in the midst of a bigtime comeback year and he draws a decent matchup tonight against an Orioles team that very much prefers to face righties. Baltimore posted the lowest batting average (.234) against LHP amongst A.L. teams last year and current O’s are 22-for-99 (.222) with 28 K’s in their careers against Gonzalez. He’s sporting a 1.64 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP on the year and makes for a solid cash game play given his ability to step up and get outs with RISP.
Blake Snell: (TOR) vs. KC DK: $7,400 / FD: $6,900
Snell is showing signs of putting together a great start, but hasn’t quite been able to control the zone and avoid putting men on base in the middle innings. Yet tonight he faces a Royals team that is dead last in run scored (82) by far this year and is sporting a collective .212 batting average. The Royals are also dead last by far in collective batting average (.183) against LHP this season and may have a tough time picking up the ball off the left hand of a talented young southpaw.
Carlos Martinez: (STL) @ MIA DK: $9,800/FD: $9,500
After a stellar season debut, Martinez cooled off considerably. Yet he showed signs of returning to dominance with 14 ground ball outs without allowing an earned run over 7.1 IP in his last outing. Tonight he faces a Marlins team that’s bottom 10 in terms of wOBA (.309) and has struggled to score runs lately in a massive ballpark, so he can get away with some mistakes if he doesn’t continue to cut the grass with a parade of grounders.
Yasmani Grandal: (LAD) vs. PIT DK: $3,400 / FD: $3,200
We always like to pick on converted relievers because they’re unlikely to last long and can frequently struggle while trying to make adjustments the second or third time through a batting order. Rookie RHP Trevor Williams will be forced into a spot start with Jameson Taillon (groin) on the shelf in a tough venue at Dodger Stadium. The San Diego native was excellent in the Minor last year, but allowed LHB to hit .306 with a 1.59 WHIP against the platoon and therefore might struggle against the talented lefties in the Dodgers lineup.
Yadier Molina: (STL) @ MIA DK: $3,300 / FD: $3,000
Good bet for production with the platoon advantage against LHP Adam Conley.
Gary Sanchez: (NYY) @ CIN DK: $4,800 / FD: $3,200
Could begin to rediscover his power stroke in a plus matchup against RHP Rookie Davis.
Ryan Zimmerman: (WAS) @ BAL DK: $4,700 / FD: $4,600
Apparently Zimmerman is so hot right now that the Nationals had to give him Sunday off to quell the flames. He’s batting .435 with 13 HR and 34 RBIs to lead the Majors and his .472 ISO Mark is also the highest amongst qualified batters. Tonight the Nats face a struggling young RHP in Kevin Gausman at hitter-friendly Camden Yards to open the Beltway Series and Zimmerman may see even more pitches to hit an RBI opportunities with Bryce Harper expected to return to the lineup.
Kendrys Morales: (TOR) vs. CLE DK: $3,600 / FD: $2,900
Doing a solid job in the middle of Toronto’s lineup and could jump in on a rally or two against RHP Trevor Bauer.
Yonder Alonso: (OAK) vs. LAA DK: $2,800 / FD: $3,300
Cheap addition to an Athletics stack against RHP Ricky Nolasco.
Starlin Castro: (NYY) @ CIN DK: $3,800 / FD: $3,900
There’s not much available at the top of the board at this position tonight, so perhaps you should just roll with a relative value on DK. Castro comes into tonight’s plus matchup sporting a .383/.420/.553 slash line with multiple hits in 7 of his last 10 appearances and he should be able to continue producing against rookie RHP Rookie Davis. The Reds starter is giving up a 33.3% Hard Contact Rate when facing RHB and giving up a 1.84 HR/9 ratio overall, which makes him a good candidate to target with a Yankees stack.
Jed Lowrie: (OAK) vs. LAA DK: $2,700 / FD: $2,300
Dirt cheap as always and capable of producing against struggling RHP Ricky Nolasco.
Yangervis Solarte: (SD) vs. TEX DK: $3,600 / FD: $3,300
He’s actually been more productive at home this season and will have the platoon advantage against RHP Nick Martinez.
Ryon Healy: (OAK) vs. LAA DK: $3,300 / FD: $3,200 as 1B
He remains a fantastic bargain on DK and Healy could pay off as a fantastic GPP play if he’s able to connect for an XBH or HR off Angels SP Ricky Nolasco tonight. The veteran RHP is sporting a weak 4.68 ERA with a 5.61 FIP and 2.48 HR/9 ratio so far this season along with a career-low 35.9% Ground Ball Rate. Clearly, he’s vulnerable to the long ball and he’s also dealing with a calf injury, so look for one the A’s few power hitters in Healy to do some damage. He’s 5-for-12 with a HR in his career against Nolasco and has slugged 5 homers through 29 games this year.
Justin Turner: (LAD) vs. PIT DK: $3,600 / FD: $3,700
Love Turner as a prime addition to a Dodgers stack tonight.
Anthony Rendon: (WAS) @ BAL DK: $4,400 / FD: $3,200
Worth adding to a full on Nats stack against Gausman.
Trea Turner: (WAS) @ BAL DK: $5,200 / FD: $4,000
Hopefully Turner is lightly owned after going 0-for-10 over his last 2 appearances, because he could blow up as the head of a Nationals stack this evening. Washington’s league-leading offense faces a vulnerable RHP in Kevin Gausman, who is sporting the second-worst ERA (7.55) in the Majors along with a 1.94 WHIP so far this year. He’s allowing RHB to post a .429 wOBA with a troublesome 23.8% HR/FB ratio so far this season and Turner is an elite righty with more pop in RvR matchups to go along with his elite speed and he happens to be 3-for-3 with a double in a small sample against Gausman.
Elvis Andrus: (TEX) @ SD DK: $3,800 / FD: $3,100
He continues to produce on a nightly basis and shouldn’t be bothered by the spacious confines of Petco Park.
Corey Seager: (LAD) vs. PIT DK: $4,400 / FD: $3,800
May have the most upside of any Dodgers batter with the platoon advantage against RHP Trevor Williams.
Aaron Judge: (NYY) @ CIN DK: $4,600 / FD: $4,500
Judge slugged another XBH with an RBI triple during Sunday night’s extra innings marathon against the Cubs and he’s one of the hottest hitters in the game right now with a .389/.522/1.000 slash line and 7 homers over his last 10 appearances. The big man will look to keep it going against rookie RHP Rookie Davis, who is sporting a 7.36 ERA and 2.18 WHIP over 4 appearances this year. Davis was lucky enough to avoid any trouble over 5 innings and earn a win against the depleted Pirates lineup his last time out, but he’ll be hard pressed to sit down a Yankees team that leads the A.L with a collective .361 wOBA so far this year, led by a .487 wOBA from Judge.
Cody Bellinger: (LAD) vs. PIT DK: $3,600 / FD: $3,300
The Dodgers rookie has been on fire since getting the call up with a .357/.426/.786 slash line and 5 homers over just 42 at-bats this year. He just went 5-for-9 with 3 homers in a stint at massive Petco Park and now he returns home to Dodger Stadium to face a pitcher that struggled against lefties at the AAA level last year. Bellinger is hitting .367 with a .533 woBA and ridiculous 1.306 OPS against RHP so far in his MLB career.
