Darius Slayton NYG WR
Giants' Darius Slayton: Seeking new deal
3h agoSlayton (thumb) -- who is reportedly seeking a contract extension -- hasn't reported to the Giants' voluntary workouts, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports.
The report notes that Slayton, who led the team with 770 receiving yards (on 50 catches) in 17-regular season games in 2023, has attended the Giants' voluntary offseason program in the past. The 27-year-old wideout is in line to earn $6.2 million in the final year of his contract with New York this coming season, but evidently Slayton is looking to amend those terms. At this stage, the 2019 fifth-rounder -- who is bouncing back from an offseason procedure on his right thumb -- is poised to retain a key role in a Giants' WR corps that also currently includes Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, with further depth likely to arrive via the upcoming NFL draft.

Jaelan Phillips MIA LB
Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips: Set for fifth-year option
7h agoThe Dolphins plan to pick up the fifth-year contract option of Phillips (Achilles) before May's deadline, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
General manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that Miami intends to pick up the fifth-year options of both Phillips and Jaylen Waddle. A right Achilles tear limited Phillips to just eight games last season, but he's reportedly on track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 campaign. He's been one of the Dolphins' more impactful pass rushers over the past three seasons, and the team will be more in need of those talents than ever with Christian Wilkins having moved on to Las Vegas.

De'Von Achane MIA RB
Dolphins' De'Von Achane: Bulks up during offseason
7h agoAchane looks more muscular after working out this offseason, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
A photo of Achane showing up for OTAs went viral, with some saying he looks much larger than he did during his rookie campaign. It's his second offseason bulking up for football without also considering track and field, though at this point it's unclear how much he's added relative to his weight from the 2023 NFL Combine (where he ran a 4.32 40-yard dash at 188 pounds). Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry and scored a TD per game last season, albeit with injuries (six missed games) and Raheem Mostert's presence (209 carries) limiting the rookie to 103 carries and 27 catches in his 11 appearances. The Dolphins still have Mostert under contract -- along with backups Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed (foot) and Chris Brooks -- but they'll presumably task Achane with more of the backfield work in his second pro season.
-
Royce Freeman LAR RB
Cowboys' Royce Freeman: Picked up by Dallas
23h agoFreeman signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Freeman spent his first three seasons with the Broncos before stops with the Panthers, Texans and Rams the last three years. The journeyman tallied 319 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Los Angeles last year across 14 games. Dallas lost Tony Pollard to free agency, so its running back room currently consists of Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn (ankle), Malik Davis, Snoop Conner and Freeman. Freeman could get an opportunity to carve out a role for himself, but the Cowboys still seem likely to invest in the position during the 2024 Draft.

Trent Taylor CHI WR
49ers' Trent Taylor: Returns to Bay Area
1d agoTaylor signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Lindsey Pallares of the team's official site reports.
Taylor started his career in San Francisco before a two-year stay with the Bengals, and he spent the 2023 campaign with the Bears. The 29-year-old will have the opportunity to earn a role in the return game with the Niners after the departure of Ray-Ray McCloud in free agency this offseason.
-
Trent Taylor CHI WR
Trent Taylor: Could return to Bay Area
1d agoTaylor has talked to the 49ers about a potential return to the team, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Taylor was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2017 Draft and spent three seasons there before stops in Cincinnati and Chicago. The 49ers do currently have a void in their return game, with Ray-Ray McCloud now in Atlanta, which is likely where the interest in Taylor lies.

Lucas Gilbreath COL RP
Rockies' Lucas Gilbreath: Faces hitters in sim game
25m agoGilbreath (elbow) pitched in a simulated game Tuesday, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Gilbreath, who is on the mend from March 2023 Tommy John surgery, said he felt good following Tuesday's outing, so the Rockies are tentatively having him pitch in a controlled setting once again Friday. If all goes well Friday, Gilbreath could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as next week. During his last MLB season with Colorado in 2022, the lefty reliever compiled a 4.19 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 49:26 K:BB across 43 innings.
-
Chad Green TOR RP
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Unavailable Wednesday
32m agoGreen was unavailable for Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Yankees due to shoulder soreness, but manager John Schneider hopes the right-hander will be good to go Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Green's pop-up injury hindered him from entering the game, where the Blue Jays could have used some relief help as they allowed five runs in four innings after starting pitcher Kevin Gausman exited. The veteran reliever could be ready to pitch Friday as Toronto takes on the Padres in San Diego.
-
Ryan Weathers MIA SP
Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Cleared for next start
32m agoWeathers (hand) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Cubs in Chicago, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Weathers experienced some cramping in his left hand late in his most recent start in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants, but he had already tossed 90 pitches in the outing and wasn't likely to stay in the game much longer even if the issue hadn't cropped up. Before departing, Weathers notched his first quality start of the season, covering six innings and striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk. Through four starts this season, Weathers now owns a 3-1 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB in 20 innings, numbers that make him worth a look in shallower leagues where he still might be available on the waiver wire.
-
Jake Irvin WAS SP
Nationals' Jake Irvin: Blanks Dodgers for first win
1h agoIrvin (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against Los Angeles, allowing four hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out six.
It was quite a day for Irvin against a star-packed Dodgers lineup, holding LA off the board en route to his first win of the season. The 27-year-old Irvin has delivered back-to-back quality starts, allowing just one run across 12 innings in that span. He lowered his ERA to 3.13 with a 1.00 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through his first four outings (23 innings) this season. Irvin will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently scheduled as a home rematch with the Dodgers early next week.
-
Tyler O'Neill BOS RF
Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Not expected back Thursday
1h agoO'Neill (forehead) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians and is considered unlikely to be available for Thursday's series finale, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
O'Neill was removed from Monday's 6-0 loss to Cleveland after a collision in the outfield with teammate Rafael Devers and was fortunate to avoid a concussion, but he suffered a cut on his forehead and needed eight stitches to seal his wound. Though manager Alex Cora expressed confidence Tuesday that O'Neill would be ready to play by Thursday, the outfielder isn't yet taking part in baseball activities on the field, so the Red Sox are expected to play it safe with him for another day. On a positive note, O'Neill hasn't been shut down from physical activity entirely, as he's been able to work out on his own.
-
Forrest Whitley HOU RP
Astros' Forrest Whitley: Sent back to minors
1h agoThe Astros optioned Whitley to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Whitley will return to Triple-A just one day after being recalled for his MLB debut Tuesday. He allowed one hit and one walk but did not surrender a run through two-thirds of an inning. The 26-year-old's departure opens a spot on the active roster that will presumably be given to Justin Verlander (shoulder) when he returns Friday.
-
Duncan Robinson MIA SG
Heat's Duncan Robinson: Coming off bench Wednesday
30m agoRobinson isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game versus the 76ers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Despite starting in his last 17 outings, Robinson will come off the bench against Philadelphia after missing Miami's previous four contests with a back injury. Robinson is averaging 9.8 points, 1.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 21.4 minutes across his last 10 appearances coming off the bench.
-
Mo Bamba PHI C
76ers' Mo Bamba: Back to bench
31m agoBamba won't start Wednesday's Play-In Game against the Heat.
With Joel Embiid (knee) sidelined, Bamba drew a spot start during the regular-season finale and posted four points, six rebounds and two blocks in 18 minutes during a 107-86 win over Brooklyn. Across 40 appearances off the bench this season, Bamba has averaged 3.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 10.3 minutes per game.
-
Joel Embiid PHI C
76ers' Joel Embiid: Good to go against Miami
34m agoEmbiid is available and in the starting lineup for Tuesday's Play-In Tournament game against the 76ers.
As expected, Embiid has been upgraded from questionable to available Tuesday despite dealing with a left knee injury. The superstar big man tallied 29 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 33 minutes during his only other appearance against Miami this season.
-
Kenyon Martin Jr. PHI SF
76ers' KJ Martin: Available for Wednesday
35m agoMartin (toe) will be available for Wednesday's game against the Heat.
Martin will return from a three-game absence and will likely be working with minutes in the teens. He's not the most attractive fantasy option.
-
Olivier Sarr OKC C
Thunder's Olivier Sarr: Diagnosed with Achilles injury
42m agoThe Thunder announced Wednesday that Sarr sustained a left Achilles tendon rupture during Game 3 of the G League Finals on Monday, Rylan Stiles of FanSided.com reports.
While the Thunder are expected to release a return timetable in the coming months, Sarr's injury could continue to affect him during the 2024-25 campaign. Sarr split time between the NBA and G League this season as a two-way player and is ineligible for the Thunder's postseason run.
-
Kenyon Martin Jr. PHI SF
76ers' KJ Martin: Expected to play Wednesday
2h agoMartin (toe) is expected to play Wednesday against the Heat, Noah Levick of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Martin is still being listed as questionable on the injury report, but he was able to get through the team's morning shootaround, so it looks like he'll be out there barring a setback during warmups. However, he'll likely only be operating with minutes in the teens, so he's not a great target in fantasy hoops.
-
Adam Erne EDM LW
Oilers' Adam Erne: Rises to NHL
22m agoErne was called up from AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports.
Erne will give the Oilers extra forward depth should they decide to rest additional forwards over the last two games of the season. He previously posted two points and 67 hits over 23 contests at the NHL level this season.
-
Sebastian Aho NYI D
Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Not resting Wednesday
26m agoAho will play Wednesday versus the Penguins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Aho was initially slated to be rested for this game, but Anders Lee will now sit out instead. Aho will serve as a seventh defenseman, so it's likely his ice time will be limited anyway.
-
Anders Lee NYI LW
Islanders' Anders Lee: Out for personal reasons
27m agoLee won't play Wednesday versus the Penguins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Lee wasn't initially slated to miss the game, but the team later revealed he would be absent. The Islanders will have Sebastian Aho draw in instead. Lee will conclude the regular season with 20 goals, 17 assists, 185 shots on net and 176 hits over 81 appearances.
-
Anthony Cirelli TB C
Lightning's Anthony Cirelli: Won't play Wednesday
31m agoCirelli is not on the ice for warmups and won't play Wednesday versus the Maple Leafs, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.
Cirelli missed a game earlier in April due to an upper-body injury, so it's possible the Lightning have chosen to give him rest ahead of the playoffs. He is a key defensive center for the team, and there's no reason to think he'll miss Game 1 of the Lightning's first-round series versus the Panthers.
-
Victor Hedman TB D
Lightning's Victor Hedman: Sitting due to illness
34m agoHedman (illness) won't play Wednesday versus the Maple Leafs, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.
There's no point in playing through it for Hedman, as the Lightning are locked into the first wild-card spot. Hedman will end the regular season with 13 goals, 76 points, 168 shots on net and 102 blocked shots over 78 appearances.
-
Tyler Motte TB C
Lightning's Tyler Motte: Not playing Wednesday
36m agoMotte (lower body) won't suit up for Wednesday's game versus the Maple Leafs, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports.
Motte will miss his third straight game, though it makes sense the Lightning aren't pushing him to play in a contest that won't impact the final standings. The 29-year-old will contend for a bottom-six role in the postseason once he's cleared to return.
