Jim Johnson allowed five runs and 12 baserunners over his last 8.2 innings with 11 Ks while converting four of six saves. Jim has been successful in 13 of his 17 saves. Arodys Vizcaino has a 0.53 ERA over his last 17 innings with 19 Ks to put himself in a strong position to earn saves if Johnson is traded. Jose Ramirez allowed a run or more in three of his last nine games (four runs and 12 baserunners over six innings with five Ks). The Braves are 18th in bullpen ERA (4.28) after 64 games with 11 wins, eight losses, and 13 saves.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins are league average in bullpen ERA (4.07 – 15th) after 62 games with 11 wins, 11 losses, and nine saves. A.J. Ramos pitched his best ball of the season over his last 6.2 innings (no runs and no hits with 10 Ks) leading to five successful saves. Ramos still hasn’t blown a save in nine opportunities. David Phelps struggled in two of his last three games (four runs and seven baserunners over three innings) ending his scoreless streak at 19 innings with 19 strikeouts. Kyle Barraclough is trending upward over his last five innings (no runs with one walk and six Ks). Brad Ziegler is trying to save his season after having a 7.08 ERA on May 27th. Brad hasn’t allowed a run over his last six innings with four Ks.

New York Mets

Addison Reed has five saves in his last six games pitched leading to 7.2 shutout innings with one walk and nine Ks. Reed is 11-for-13 in save conversions. Jerry Blevins remains the only other trusted arm in this bullpen (two runs over his last ten innings with 16 Ks). Jeurys Familia hopes to be clear to begin throwing in the next couple of weeks. The Mets rank 25th in bullpen ERA (4.87) after 62 games with nine wins, 14 losses, and 15 saves.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are 24th in bullpen ERA (4.73) after 63 games with nine wins, 14 losses, and nine saves. Hector Neris shows job loss risk again in June. Over his last three innings, he allowed three runs and nine baserunners with three Ks and a save. Neris only has five saves in six chances while his ERA (3.62) and WHIP (1.32) are showing downside. Pat Neshek hasn’t allowed a run over his last 10.1 innings with ten strikeouts, putting him in position to steal the closing job. Joaquin Benoit struggled in both of his games (three runs and five baserunners over 1.2 innings) since returning from the DL.

Washington Nationals

The Nationals bullpen continues to be a joke in 2017. Koda Glover appeared to be future closer after throwing 8.2 shutout innings with 10 Ks and five saves over the last 18 days of May. The A’s blasted him for five runs and five baserunners while recording one out on June 4th followed up by another disaster outing on June 10th (two runs and four baserunners over two-thirds of an inning). Koda landed back on the DL with a back injury after his last outing. Glover converted eight of his ten save chances before seeing his ERA balloon to 5.12. Matt Albers proved to be a sucker’s play when he blew his first save opportunity (three runs and three baserunners over two-thirds of an inning) after Glover went on the Dl. Albers pitched at an elite level over his previous 8.1 innings (no runs and 15 Ks). Matt will be the closer until he blows up or Washington finds an option on another team. Enny Romero extended his scoreless streak to 10.1 innings with 16 strikeouts. Trevor Gott was called up to replace Koda on the roster. He had a 3.30 ERA over 30 innings at AAA with 28 Ks and three saves. The Nationals have the second worst bullpen ERA (5.02) after 63 games with ten wins, 11 losses, and 19 saves.

Chicago Cubs

Wade Davis has only pitched in eight games over the last month (three runs and ten baserunners over eight innings with 13 Ks and six saves). Davis still hasn’t blown a save in 13 chances. Carl Edwards saw his 7.1 no-hit shutout streak end on June 9th when he allowed a run to the Rockies. Carl has a 1.07 ERA on the year with 36 Ks in 25.1 innings. In June, Koji Uehara didn’t allow a run over five innings with one hit, five Ks, and a save. The Cubs moved to fifth in baseball in bullpen ERA (3.31) after 63 games with nine wins, ten losses, and 17 saves.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds are 8th in the majors in bullpen ERA (3.64) after 62 games with 12 wins, 11 losses, and 15 saves. Raisel Iglesias bombed in his last outing (four runs and four baserunners over two-thirds of an inning), which ended his scoreless run at 20 innings with 24 Ks. Raisel now has one blown save in 13 chances. Michael Lorenzen pitched nine shutout innings over his last five games with eight strikeouts. Tony Cingrani struggled so far since returning from the DL (two runs and six baserunners over 3.1 innings). Drew Storen has a 1.08 ERA over his last 8.1 innings with seven Ks.

Milwaukee Brewers

Corey Knebel is one of the better waiver wire finds in 2016. He has 58 Ks over 32.1 innings while converting nine of his 11 save chances since taking over the closing job. Over his last 23 innings, Corey has 0.78 ERA and 0.87 WHIP with 44 Ks. Jacob Barnes failed to get an out on June 8th when he allowed four runs and five baserunners to the Giants. Even with this bad outing, Jacob has a 3.14 ERA over his last 14.1 innings with 14 Ks. Jared Hughes allowed three runs over his last seven innings with nine Ks. The Brewers are 20th in bullpen ERA (4.51) after 66 games with ten wins, 18 losses, and two saves.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Despite a mess in the 9th inning with Tony Watson as closer, the Pirates sit 13th in bullpen ERA (3.96) after 63 games with 12 wins, 11 losses, and 13 saves. Felipe Rivero earned the first two saves after Watson was removed from the job. He did allow a run in a non-save situation on June 13th ending his shutout streak at 13 innings with 15 Ks. Rivero should run and hide with the closing job. Juan Nicasio only allowed one run over his last 22 innings with 22 Ks to remain in consideration for saves. After posting a 7.71 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his last 14 innings as a closer, Tony tossed two shutout innings with one strikeout in a setup role.

St. Louis Cardinals

Seung-hwan Oh has two blown saves in his 17 chances while struggling a couple of times over his last nine games (four runs and 14 baserunners over 9.1 innings with 14 Ks). His WHIP (1.40) still needs a correction. Trevor Rosenthal looked closer worthy headed into June, but he’s allowed five runs and eight baserunners over his last 4.1 innings. Kevin Siegrist is trending up again (one run over his last 5.2 innings with five Ks). St. Louis is 23rd in bullpen ERA (4.71) after 62 games with five wins, 13 losses, and 21 saves.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks pushed their way to seventh in bullpen ERA (3.63) after 64 games with 12 wins, six losses, and 19 saves. Over his last 14 games, Fernando Rodney hasn’t allowed a run over 13.2 innings with 11 Ks while converting eight of nine save chances. Rodney is now 17-for-20 in save conversions with a 5.31 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Archie Bradley hasn’t allowed a run over his last 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts to lower his ERA to 1.21. T.J. McFarland blow up in his last game (three runs and six baserunners over 1.1 innings) ending his nice start to the year (one run over 17.1 innings with 12 Ks). J.J. Hoover is no longer considered an asset in this bullpen after allowing six runs and 16 baserunners over his last 4.2 innings.

Colorado Rockies

The save machine of Greg Holland added four more saves over the first nine days in June, but he hasn’t pitched over the last five days. Greg has a 0.57 ERA and 0.77 WHIP over his last 15.2 innings with 23 Ks while converting all 23 of his saves on the year. Jake McGee extended his shutout streak to 12.1 innings with no walks and 16 Ks. After pitching a perfect inning with two Ks on June 9th after coming off the DL, Adam Ottavino struggled in his next outing (two runs and two baserunners in one inning). The Rockies are 12th in the majors in bullpen ERA (3.95) after 66 games with nine wins, five losses, and 25 saves.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers continue to have the second-best bullpen ERA (2.78) in the majors after 65 games with 12 wins, seven losses, and 16 saves. Kenley Jansen has four wins and 12 successful saves in 2017. He’s only walked one batter over 26.2 innings with 44 Ks. Janson improved his scoreless run to 9.2 innings with 12 Ks, four saves, and two wins. Pedro Baez hasn’t allowed a run over his last ten innings with 11 Ks. Over his last three games, Josh Fields gave up three runs (all via the home run) over three innings.

San Diego Padres

The on again, off again, Brandon Maurer blew up on June 8th when he allowed four runs and five baserunners while failing to record an out. Maurer did pick up saves in his next two outing when he tossed 1.1 shutout innings. Over his last 15 games, Brandon has an 11.25 ERA and 2.08 WHIP over 12 innings with eight Ks. Brad Hand struggled in two of his last three games (six runs and eight baserunners over 2.2 innings). The Padres called up Phil Maton this week. Over 25.1 innings at AAA in 2017, Phil had a 2.84 ERA with 31 Ks and 13 saves. Maton is worth a flier based on the rough ride of Maurer. San Diego is 26th in bullpen ERA (4.94) after 65 games with nine wins, 14 losses, and 15 saves.

San Francisco Giants

Surprisingly, the Giants are 10th in bullpen ERA (3.74) after 64 games with ten wins, eight losses, and 14 saves. Mark Melancon blew his third save in 13 chances in his last game on June 8th when he allowed two runs, four baserunners, and a home run in one inning of work. Derek Law tossed three shutout innings over the last week with three Ks after struggling in three of his last four games (four runs and nine baserunners over 3.2 innings). Hunter Strickland has a five-inning scoreless run with five strikeouts.
