Plays of the Day
Value: Rays rookie RHP Jacob Faria can be your bargain option on FanDuel today, allowing you to roll with most of the high-priced hitters you may choose to consider. With a plus slider and changeup, Faria was able to post a 12.89 K/9 ratio at the AAA level this season and he’s struck out 13 while walking just 3 over 2 starts as a Big Leaguer.
Fade: Jacob deGrom was fantastic in his last outing and he’s capable of shutting down the elite Nationals lineup, but he’s been far too inconsistent for me to trust at that price tag.
Team Target Stacks
Indians: Edwin Encarnacion, Francisco Lindor, Jason Kipnis, Lonnie Chisenhall
Dodgers: Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner
Diamondbacks: Paul Goldschmidt, Jake Lamb, Chris Owings, Gregor Blanco
Cardinals: Matt Carpenter, Stephen Piscotty, Yadier Molina
Chance of rain delays in Baltimore and Atlanta today with a chance of a PPD game in Cincinnati.
Robbie Ray: (ARI) @ PHI DK: $13,500/FD: $11,000
If you can afford it, you might as well pay up for the obvious top SP option on the board this Father’s Day. Ray has been nothing short of amazing with a 1.03 WHIP and .190 BAA while he’s been even better lately in allowing just 1 ER on 14 hits with 48 K’s to win each of his last 5 starts. With the elite Diamondbacks offense there to back him, Ray should be able to post another great line tonight and he’s yet to have a bad outing away from hitter-friendly Chase Field with a 0.64 ERA and 11.27 K/9 ratio on the road this season.
Kenta Maeda: (LAD) @ CIN DK: $7,200/FD: $8,700
While he doesn’t possess much upside on his own, Maeda is a very good cash game play because of the likelihood that he could earn a win for the Dodgers tonight. Big Blue is facing a washed-up old RHP in Bronson Arroyo and has a slew of dangerous LHBs to pound him, so all Maeda has to do is avoid an implosion to likely leave the game with a lead. He’s really struggled with longevity lately as he tries to battle back from injury, but will at least have an extra day of rest ahead of this matchup.
Jacob Faria: (TB) @ DET DK: $8,100/FD: $6,500
The Rays rookie can be your bargain option on FanDuel today, allowing you to roll with most of the high-priced hitters you may choose to consider. He’s been excellent over his first 2 MLB starts with just 1 ER allowed while going 6.1 IP (1.42 ERA) to win each of those outings. With a plus slider and changeup, Faria was able to post a 12.89 K/9 ratio at the AAA level this season and he’s struck out 13 while walking just 3 so far as a Big Leaguer.
Jimmy Nelson: (MIL) vs. SD DK: $7,900/FD: $9,800
He’s certainly less of a risk as a value on DK today versus his lofty price tag on FD, but either way, Nelson has a good chance to earn a win if he just post a Quality Start against the weakest offense in the Majors. San Diego is still dead last in terms of collective batting average (.229) with the second-highest K-Rate (25.4%) and Nelson has been solid at home with a 3.12 ERA and 9.42 K/9 ratio over 8 appearances this year. He held the Padres to 2 ER over 7 strong innings in a previous meeting and could be around the same level of production this Sunday.
Yadier Molina: (STL) @ BAL DK: $3,200 / FD: $2,500
Molina’s played five straight days, so there’s a chance he gets a break, but if not, he’s a great cash game option with some upside against a vulnerable RHP in Ubaldo Jimenez. With hits in each appearance this week and a .345 batting average over his last 10 appearances, one of the smartest players in the game should able to time up Jimenez, who is sporting a rough 6.71 ERA with a 21.1% HR/FB ratio to struggle badly once again this season.
Manny Pina: (MIL) vs. SD DK: $3,500 / FD: $2,300
Will be a great option if he starts at home against RHP Luis Perdomo.
Yasmani Grandal: (LAD) @ CIN DK: $3,300 / FD: $3,100
Certainly has a chance to go Yabo off Arroyo this afternoon.
Edwin Encarnacion: (CLE) @ MIN DK: $4,900 / FD: $3,700
When Encarnacion is locked in it spells a lot of trouble for vulnerable opposing pitchers and the Twins start just that tonight in Kyle Gibson. After rare B2B Quality Starts, Gibson was tagged for 6 ER on 12 hits in his last outing and he’s now sporting a 6.79 ERA with a 1.84 WHIP and giving up a 15.4% HR/FB ratio with a 39.5% Hard Contact Rate on the year. Encarnacion is 3-for-11 with a HR in his career against Gibson and is sporting an impressive .387/.537/.839 slash over his last 10 appearances despite coming up empty on Saturday.
Matt Carpenter: (STL) @ BAL DK: $4,500 / FD: $3,900
Suddenly red hot and will have the platoon advantage against RHP Ubaldo Jimenez.
Eric Thames: (MIL) vs. SD DK: $4,800 / FD: $3,600
Thames homered in a fourth straight game yesterday and faces a vulnerable RHP today in Perdomo.
Jason Kipnis: (CLE) @ MIN DK: $3,600 / FD: $3,100
Keep considering Indians bats against Gibson, especially if they’re at a great price point like Kipnis. He’s been flashing upside with 4 doubles and a SB over his last 4 appearances and will have the platoon advantage today against Gibson, who is allowing LHB to post a .414 wOBA with a 1.63 HR/9 ratio on the season. Kipnis is an impressive 8-for-15 with 7 walks over a solid sample against the Twins SP and he should be productive in this matchup once again.
Cory Spangenberg: (SD) @ MIL DK: $3,600 as 3B/FD: $2,500
Worth a look with the platoon advantage on the road tonight against Nelson.
Dee Gordon: (MIA) vs. ATL DK: $4,000 / FD: $3,200
He could have a big day on the bases against familiar foe Mike Foltynewicz.
Justin Turner: (LAD) @ CIN DK: $4,500 / FD: $3,600
An easy addition to a Dodgers stack at his mid-tier price tag, Turner thrives in plus matchups against weak righties and he’s in a dream spot today with Bronson Arroyo toeing the rubber for Cincy. The 40-year-old has posted a 7.01 ERA with a matching 7.03 FIP and given up a 2.91 HR/9 ratio this season, while Turner comes into this matchup hitting .471 with 5 walks to just 5 K’s over his last 10 appearances.
Evan Longoria: (TB) @ DET DK: $3,700 / FD: $3,700
Worth using in a Rays stack against Tigers young RHP Buck Farmer.
Jake Lamb: (ARI) @ PHI DK: $5,400 / FD: $4,100
He’s red hot right now and faces a young RHP in Ben Lively.
Francisco Lindor: (CLE) @ MIN DK: $4,300 / FD: $3,400
Just one more Indians bat that you should definitely consider tonight, as Lindor has also owned Kyle Gibson with 9 hits over 13 career at-bats against the Twins starter. He’s always swiped two bags off Gibson and that’s the type of versatile upside he brings to the table now that he’s raking again with 6 hits, including yesterday’s HR, over his last 4 appearances. The dangerous switch hitter should be well worth the money as a key component to an Indians stack.
Jose Reyes: (NYM) vs. WAS DK: $3,200 / FD: $2,300
Worth a look with the platoon advantage today against struggling RHP Joe Ross.
Corey Seager: (LAD) @ CIN DK: $4,500 / FD: $3,500
Hard to go wrong adding another dangerous bat to a stack against Arroyo.
Cody Bellinger: (LAD) @ CIN DK: $5,300 / FD: $3,900
Of course he’s quite expensive today after crushing it in a plus matchup on Saturday, but Bellinger should be worth the money as the heart of a Dodgers stack against Arroyo. The Reds veteran is giving up an absurd 4.62 HR/9 ratio with a 9.97 FIP when facing LHB this season and Bellinger is mashing with a .451 wOBA, .500 ISO Mark and ridiculous 59% Hard Contact Rate during the month of June, while he’ll face Arroyo in the ballpark with one of the highest HR Factors for lefties.
Mallex Smith: (TB) @ DET DK: $3,700 / FD: $2,500
As we pointed out yesterday, Smith is rolling right now with a .429 batting average and 4 SBs to go along with 4 walks over his last 10 appearances. After going 2-for-4 yesterday he’s still a great bargain on FanDuel and draws a much easier matchup tonight against young RHP Buck Farmer, who was lit up for 6 ER on 9 hits while lasting just 2.1 IP in his last outing. Smith has elite upside due to his speed and could serve as part of a surprising Rays stack.
