It’s finally here. The game that puts Star Wars fans into the most epic battles in the universe has arrived, and it’s everything we hoped it would be. From wielding a lightsaber as Darth Vader to getting behind the sticks of the Millenium Falcon, the game has us screaming with excitement that, coincidentally, sounds a lot like Chewbacca’s signature roar.
Battlefront nails the Star Wars experiences that everyone wants. There are solo and co-op campaigns (including couch co-op if you’re in need of some old-fashioned split-screen action), and those are fun enough, with co-op outshining solo play by a longshot. It’s just more fun to take on the episodic content of the story with a friend, not to mention easier to hold down the hordes of baddies the game throws at you throughout. Whether you’re playing in first person or third, there’s a lot of good gameplay to be had here.
However, the crown jewel, by far, is the gigantic multiplayer battles. We can’t help but feel that the free beta that EA ran a few weeks ago did the game a tremendous injustice by making gamers feel the scope of competitive multiplayer was narrowed to only battles where AT-AT lumber across icy landscapes. The final game has so much more to it, from massive battles between legendary heroes and villains to air-based dogfights between TIE fighters and X-Wings. No matter what your favorite mode is, it’ll all contribute to you ranking up your character and opening up customization options from looks to loadouts. The truth of the matter is that no one mode emerged as our favorite throughout our week with the game, every one of them was an absolute addiction, holding our attention for hours before we were forced to move on to the next for the sake of this article. You can bet that we’ll be jumping into any number of Battlefront battles as we while away the weeks until Episode 7 hits theaters.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a huge Star Wars fan, at its core Battlefront is simply a spectacular game and one of the Star Wars properties that has more than lived up to the extreme hype that tends to follow all the franchise’s endeavors. We only hope that the new movie is as satisfying, but we’ll take solace knowing that, if it’s not, Battlefront will ease our pain when we get home from the theater.
