Pike County Coach Wayne Grant caught up with Pike County's Coach Wayne Grant Thursday afternoon, and he was generous enough to give us his thoughts about the upcoming game.

"Hillcrest is an improved football team," Coach Grant stated. "Coach Belser is in his second season, and he's doing a good job over there. They won their first game this season, and we expect them to play us hard."

"We expect them to come out and throw the ball on offense, and we expect their defensive front to try to get up the field to create problems for us."

"Of course, we hope we can play without turning the ball over, that's always a key. Our kicking game needs to improve this week. I'm not happy at all with our kicking game, especially our punting." also asked Coach Grant if he could compare this season's team to the 2006 state title team.

"They can win, so they have that in common with last year;" he said. "We probably don't have the team speed we had last year, but they keep finding ways to get the job done. We also have a younger team this season. We are playing a lot of sophomores, especially on the offensive line."

Coach Grant talked briefly about guys who were having big seasons, and his talented running back leading the way on the ground.

"Darrell Reynolds is having a good season," he said. "He has 77 carries for 587 yards and eight touchdowns, and eight catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. He also has two punt returns for 104 yards."

"Also, Blake Beacham, our quarterback, is having a good year with 25 completions on 42 attempts, for 573 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. He also has 164 yards on the ground with four touchdowns."

"Daverton Adams is leading our defense with 55 solo tackles, 11 assists and three sacks. He has been a big help on defense.'

Coach Grant also reported his linebacker, Chris Moore, is recruited heavily by Alabama State and Tuskegee. source for Alabama high school football.
