Chiefs Win Battle with Scottsboro

North Jackson used the week off from its region schedule to make a statement. The team atop the ASWA 4A poll dominated the previously undefeated 5A Scottsboro Wildcats on their own field 24-3 Friday night to remain unbeaten in five games. Both teams came into the game with 4-0 records, but it was the Chiefs that kept theirs unblemished.

The North Jackson defense was relentless, continually stopping Scottsboro's high-powered running game. After giving up a field goal to the Wildcats on their first possession, North Jackson then managed to score 24 unanswered points of their own to take the win.

Meanwhile, the offense ground out three long touchdown drives to go with a field goal after a Scottsboro turnover. In a game that was supposed to be a close battle, the Chiefs won with ease over their archrival in the 20th meeting between the two schools.

Leading the tough North Jackson defense was Frankie Crabtree who had 22 tackles in the game, followed by Zack Hammontree with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery. Tana Patrick had 13 stops, followed by Ryan Crowe with 12. Patrick also had touchdown catches of 44 and nine yards on offense.

The Chiefs will now focus their attention on another 4A ranked competitor in East Limestone as the Indians come to R.D. Hicks Stadium in an all-important Region 7 battle. Both teams are undefeated and it will be another classic showdown between the two schools.
