Pleasant Grove Travels

It has been a disappointing season to say the least for the Pleasant Grove Spartans this year. They look to even up their record this week as they travel to Hewitt-Trussville to take on the Huskies.

Pleasant Grove (4-5, 3-4) has relied on defense in its wins this season. The Spartans average 16 points per game and only give up 12. They do have a couple of weapons on offense.

Quarterback Austin Bolton has a big target in senior tight end Kedric Murry, and he loves to spread it around to wide receivers Clay Smith and Brandon McPhaul.

Coach Jim Elgin has a slew of running backs to give the ball to, also. That group is led by senior Fadarius Duncan.

The Spartan defense is led by defensive end Brandon Lewis. The Alabama commitment's job all night is to contain Hewitt quarterback Jacob Nix.

Nix looks to spread the ball around for the Huskies (6-3, 4-3) to guys like Brian Mann and James Sturwold who have come up with some big catches this season. If Nix cannot find anyone open down field, he is not afraid to tuck it and run.

Hewitt coach Hal Riddle will look to his defense to come up strong as they have in a few games this year. His defense allows just over 14 points per game.

The key to this game is simply defense. Pleasant Grove has been locked up in several defensive battles this season so they should be used to it. Hewitt has had their defensive struggles as well. Both teams should look to take care of the ball on offense and control the game. source for Alabama high school football.
