Bibb County vs. Tuscaloosa-Central

It was once said of the great thoroughbred champion Cigar that he was 'Incomparable, Invincible, Unbeatable." Unbeatable? Even the great Cigar ran out of steam. Has Central Tuscaloosa run into a team that wants to win Friday night's game a little more than they do or are they unbeatable? One thing is certain, Bibb County needs this victory more than the Falcons.

The Choctaws (6-3) are locked in a three-way tie (Shelby County and Chilton County) for the second playoff spot in 5A Region 3. The Falcons have locked up their 4A Region 4 championship with an undefeated season (9-0). They will play to keep their record in tact while the Choctaws are fighting for their very survival.

Coach Melvin Pete's Central Tuscaloosa team will roll into Bibb County on a streak like few others. The Falcons have a flashy offense that is rivaled only by it's depth.

The only real challengers to this club were an underrated 6A Northridge Club (33-31) and region opponent Fayette County (29-14). Their other games have resulted in an eye-popping 391-38 final tally.

Those lopsided scores are impressive, but are also championship building because of the reps the back-ups get. As Coach Pete says, "We're trying to build something here."

While the offense has put up big numbers and starters are often pulled early, it is the Falcons' defense that is probably overlooked. They have made hay with six shut-outs in nine games thus far.

Bibb County made the halfway turn with a 5-0 record and then came a string of games that included powerhouse opponents like Demopolis and McAdory. Chilton County managed to get in there and sting the Choctaws with a 35-34 three overtime win. All three games resulted in losses for Bibb County. rates Bibb County at 113.2 in their own 5A Classification and Central Tuscaloosa at 131.4 in the 4A classification.

This is a daunting task for Bibb County, but they have some things going for them in the form of homefield advantage and motivation.
