Walker vs. J.O. Johnson

At the beginning of this season the Walker Vikings were uncertain of how their season would turn out with a newly hired head coach and a team that seemed to underachieve the past few seasons. However, they should give the J.O. Johnson Jaguars a fit Friday night in Jasper, (Ala).

Coach John Holladay came to Jasper and raised the bar in his first season as their head coach. Coach Holladay's Vikings will get their first taste of the 5A state playoffs as they host Johnson in what promises as a good first round match-up.

The Vikings appear solid on both sides of the ball with Josh Guthrie leading a stingy Viking defense, and Cory Wilkes heading up an impressive passing game on the offensive side of the ball. Wilkes has been consistent throughout the season and has several colleges insterested in his services at the next level. caught up to Johnson running back Jimmy Vaughn Thursday, and he shared his thoughts of the Walker vs. Johnson contest.

"We've analyzed a lot of film this week, and we had a good week of practice," Vaughn said from his home in Huntsville, (Ala). "We've picked up the tempo in practice this week because it's the playoffs. You lose, and you go home."

Vaughn had plenty to tell us about the key match-ups in the game.

"I think their defensive front and their linebackers are the strength of their team," he said. "They play good defense, but I believe we can run the ball on them. They like to play a lot of cover two, and we can also hit some passes against them if we execute well. If they roll to a 3, we also have game planned for that too."

"I believe it will come down to our offensive line vs. their defensive line, and the same for them. I think it will be won, or lost at the line of scrimmage."
