ScoutSouth.com: Scoreboard Predictions

The regular season is in the rear view mirror which means it's time to buckle up start the drive for the championship. All teams in each class are equal, the playoff seedings are in place, every team knows the road to the finish line which includes all the billboards of possible future opponents. This isn't a race of speed, this is a race of endurance and mental toughness.

If a team is playing this week then one goal of the season is checked off the list. For some teams, playing this week was unexpected and for others, it would be unacceptable to not be in uniform.

Football is always a mental game, but we're talking about teenagers who carry the weight of communities on their back. Pressure of expectations spoken or unspoken exist and every player knows it. The coach holds the responsibility to harness that pressure, capture it, turn it into a positive and express it back to the team.

All the pats on the back, press clippings and celebrations of a great regular season are no longer. What happens from this point forward will be remembered more so than the latter.

This week, the pats on the back need to be replaced by high fives after a touchdown. Press clippings are made from paper, and the only paper on the field is what the team runs through at the beginning of the game. The only acceptable celebration is when the clock strikes zero and the score shows the team survived to play another week.

Teams who get caught looking ahead may find themselves fighting for survival if an opponent is taken to lightly. Teams just glad to make it won't make it long. Team discipline, mental toughness, and teamwork shows after Week 10. There are no mulligans left - now is the time to begin the journey.
